The overriding problem with this hypothesis is Tess' reaction to Ellie's infection in part 1, 'everyone turns within two days'. If there is a part 3 it will most likely revolve around the 'Scott letter' that Ellie finds in her search when she returns to St Mary's Hospital and finds confirmation of Joel's lie. Whoever Scott is he is determined to preserve all the research that was conducted by the Fireflies and continue the search for a cure - hence the reunification of the Fireflies on Cataline Island. I think it more likely that Abbey can now empathize with Joel's actions in saving Ellie because of her attachment to Lev. I think rumor will have motivated the Fireflies to once again resume their search for Ellie. Then I think it will go one of two ways - Abbey will save Ellie or, Abbey will try to ensure her father's legacy is realized. Just another hypothesis amongst the many, but whatever, I would love to see a TLOU3.

The fact that Joel was killed shows how “human” they are and their actions could have consequences and they all have love ones and emotions and most importantly they all went through different things through life. I love how real this game feels plus the small details they put into this game.

Ellie doesn’t know Abby reason for killing Joel she’s just out to kill her. When they met at the theater Ellie said “I’m the one you want there’s no cure because of me” Abby didn’t kill Joel because there’s no cure. I think if they had talked Ellie would’ve understood because they both had to deal with what he did in different ways.

This theory is great and really well put together, but Everytime I see a TLOU3 video mentioning the fireflies making a cure I have to disagree. Imo if a cure is made in pt3 that will just make the ending of the first one less impactfully and likely ruin it. The whole point of the first and second game is that Joel ruined Ellie's chance for her immunity to mean something. I would much rather Ellie's redemption come from something else

The only thing I'm saying now is that after the second games ending with her letting go of her anger towards joel is that it's up to her to decide what her life means. I think she finally understood why Joel saved her after seeing abby carrying lev and caring for someone and that why she had the flashback of joel on the porch and later the whole conversation. She seen that no matter what happened joel doesn't regret his choice and she's coming to terms with that. We may see her choose to sacrifice herself somehow but maybe not.

in a way i see this playing out, the story coming full circle . i did not think of JJ or Dina getting infected and that would lead Ellie to search out abby . my theory is that abby would search for ellie being that she had met the fireflies and come together with some plan to operate on ellie and find a cure. the plot you thought of the hospital st. mary's is good and the search abby's father's research is a good plot. i think many of the fans of last of us think that the story will come full circle and that ellie will die thus saving man kind. its one that i'm not lookng forward to but its going to make one hell of a game. thank you for the video

The hallucinations of Joel, the slowly deteriorating Ellie, the begrudging respect of Ellie and Abby, the sacrifice she would undoubtedly make just for JJ…to the end line being the name of the game and not only that, but a nod the JJ, Dina, and Tommy being the last of the Miller clan in general. I'd like to add onto the ending a bit. Imagine this. 10 years later An older Dina, tommy, and Abby sit around a camp fire. You can feel some tension as tommy clearly still hates abby but tolerates her because of Ellie. A teenage JJ shows up and they all look to him Tommy says "hey kiddo. What's up." JJ "Nothing. Really Tommy: "hmmm. Learn anything interesting at that school? JJ: "I learned about a man named joel miller who nearly destroyed the human race and a girl named Ellie williams who gave her life for the vaccine" Tommy: "I'm gonna pull you out of that school if that's what there teaching you" Dina: "tommy..." Tommy: "Dina he deserves the truth... She died for him after all" Dina: "ok" Abby: "kid... Before you do... You should know that Im not exactly the... Best person that the history books claim I am Tommy: "that's obvious" Dina: "Tommy...." Tommy: "Right Fine. Alright kid. Sit down. It's a really long story" *Fade to black*

I always imagined after TLO2’s ending that Ellie would go to the only place she has left to go: Jacksonville. Maybe she tries living by herself fit a while, but Dina would confront her sooner or later and accept her back when Ellie tells her what happened with Abbie. Ellie would finally live with JJ and Dina at peace. Meanwhile, Abby has risen up through the ranks at Cantilena with Lev. She is still strong, but is no longer in such a toxic headspace. After some time, the fireflies devise another procedure to make a cure, and this method will work WITHOUT killing the patient. The procedure is as simple as drawing blood and bone marrow and can be done by just about anybody. The caveat is that it only has a 50% chance at best resulting in a vaccine. This method is discarded as being too risky, and the Fireflys decide to go for procedure that would kill the patient and result in better odds(65%), though still not as viable as the procedure Abby’s dad was going to do. (99%) Abby learns this and realizes that Ellie is the only shot they have, and decides to go after her in hopes of convincing her to go through with the procedure. Abby does not tell the others however, because if they find Ellie they will force her to do the lethal option. The game will consist of Abby, Lev, Dina, and Tommy trekking through North America to get back to the Firefly lab, running into many enemies and threats on the way. Tommy will be struggling with his grief and rage and try to kill Abby, only to be stopped at the last moment. In the end, Abby discovers her father’s research that guarantees a vaccine, but would of course kill Ellie. Ellie chooses the procedure. The game ends with the world being saved, Dina raising JJ, Tommy finally reconciling with Abby and then Maria, and a final scene of Ellie meeting all the people she lost.

This entire plot would just make the first game completely pointless. Joel saves Ellie from making a cure, a choice that kills him, then later Ellie does the procedure and dies anyway? What’s the point in that? Like every atrocity after saving Ellie is all Joel’s fault? Pretty one dimensional and bland. It’s honestly more likely that a cure would do nothing. Trying to establish an order after ~30 years would never work. And the secret to the cure lies in some notes Left by Ellie’s father? Plus this would put Ellie’s entire worth just around dying for a cure. A noble cause, but in terms of story, pointless. Ellie has always been okay and has wanted to die for the cure, she believes she has no other worth outside of that lost cause. If she gave her life for the cure, she would have no arc. She needs to find her worth in another area of her life, perhaps mirroring Joel’s role as a mentor and guardian to another figure.

Bravo, I like it. How about some of this added to it. Pt 3 will begin with Abby and Lev finding the fireflies who are in contact with a firefly cell from South America who has the oriiginal Patient 0 who is infected and contagious but not turned or growing fungus from their body. One of the doctors working their finds out that by combining both Ellie’s and patient 0’s dna a cure can be made but only if they are alive. This will take us to back to pt 1 where Joel saving Ellie from the surgery actually saved the worlds only hope for a cure.

The difference between the 1st and the 2nd game is that it is abundantly clear as to why Joel saves Ellie, it’s NOT as clear as to why Ellie spares Abby. The line of demarcation is clearly defined in the 1st and not in the 2nd. Why did these things happen, that is the most important question.

JJ would surely die in the amount of time it would take Ellie to travel from Wyoming to California to Utah, then back to California, followed by Abby traveling from California to Wyoming. And a vaccine would be useless to someone already infected. Other than that, though, it's a good plot. Would love to play as Ellie and Abby together.

I just hope part 3 has a whole new cast. If they wanna continue Ellie's story she shouldn't go back to jackson. I see her being a nomad, finding a new group, and purpose. Also, they need to explore Ellie's immunity more. If she still is the only hope for humanity, and she sees herself saving the world, then she needs to reproduce.... Now don't get all crazy I just mentioned it, but if Dina ( who is bisexual ) has a child, why not Ellie? It could be a very intense story. Ellie has child, father gets killed, Ellie struggles to keep her and her new born safe... I really see Naughty Dog doing something that like. It's pretty obvious to me that's the route they will go. The Last Of Us must have a happy ending, like Uncharted 4. Part 3 ends with Ellie being the leader of some group with someone she loves, with kids who are a immune to the virus. It will be the single best thing ever that's happened in the overall heartbreaking story of The Last Of Us

This is a story from a person who follows the logic from tloa 1&2. I hope the drop in sales will result in a more hopeful story, where in the end ellie has found a cure without killing herself for it. Corona almost makes the story too real in some aspects.

I wish the story for tlou2 was a little different. like the roles between ellie and Joel were switched. like say instead of abby and her gang tracking down joel to kill him but instead to track down ellie to bring her back for the cure. so say they kidnap ellie during that winter in Jackson and joel tracks down the group all the way in Seattle and finally finds ellie before surgery and Brings her back to the theater and joel and ellie have a confrontation about how joel coming from a father figure should do right by ellie and let her go through with the surgery to save humanity. joel finally understands but then abby comes back after joel and a big show down between abby and joel but eventually become civil with eachother. not just because of ellie but because joel finds out about abbys father. they bring ellie to the hospital and before they knock her out for surgery joel tells Ellie goodbye and that he loves her. a couple years go by after the cure has spread across the world and rebuilding humanity. Joel finds out about abby being captured in santa Barbra. he feels guilt over what he did to her father and wants to make things right and goes to save her. he frees abby and at last joel feels at piece with himself. joel heads back to Jackson and realizes that after everything he's been through he can't go back to a normal civilization. he packs up and writes a goodbye letter to Tommy. right before he heads out. he stops at two Graves. Sarah and ellie. his two babygirls. he says his goodbyes and prayers. and he sets off for a new life.

Good story but it doesn’t really make sense as any sort of contact with the fungus or even spores only takes a day or two to kill the infected person and it clearly takes Eli a long time from Jackson all the way to Catalina Island because she’s clearly sunbird when she gets to Catalina Island in the second game and it takes them the same amount of time from Catalina island to the firefly hospital after that they go back again to Catalina Island and then they go all the way back to Jackson so that’s like a month so after a bunch JJ is already infected but cool storyline

So if the Pittsburgh ambush had not happened, Joel would have just delivered Ellie to the Fireflies within a week and walked away, as he originally planned, the outcome would be the same as your story here. So it would be possible to cut all the way from Bill's Town to the Firefly hospital without changing the outcome while bypassing almost three games worth of content...think about it...

Just one problem, Ellie isn't immune and never was. Her blood chart and what the doctor said on the tape all confirm that Ellie is infected with an Anti-Fungus fungus, with over 400 strains in that mushroom family its logical to think more than one of them if not all mutated to grow in humans. One of the strains is an anti-fungus and once infected, it would kill off all incoming fungus. A person on this medicine would have a blood chart that reads identical to Ellie's. FYI, LSD is made from this strain of mushroom, lol. Having hallucinations with the living mushroom inside you, would be par for the course.
