It's the way they keeping shifting perspectives and interconnecting everything... like with Henry and Sam being present when Joel killed that dude, but we didn't know they were there until the next episode. and now joel killing the girls father and that linking to this episode, it's masterful.

It's good for girls to know self defence - but that doesn't help women and girls always - esp of the guy also know how to fight. changing how men behave and view women, and making sure communities call out predators (notice how no one called David out in this show - even the mother let him hit her daughter) is more important and would have a bigger impact, then asking women to self defence when most women already know that. It won't save you always esp against a much larger opponent (which then leads to victims guilt they couldn't defend themselves)

Shooting a deer and not landing a kill shot actually makes the meat taste worse the longer the deer lives. The chemicals released once the deer is in a panic makes the meat taste bad, it's kind of why often people don't like the taste of venison. In the show though they are starving and I'm sure taste is the last thing they care about.

Hunting in the winter is actually a lot easier :) Tracks are easier to spot and follow, plus they don't drop out randomly and have to be found again. Also 90% of the time the animal runs from Adrenaline, but you will usually find it dead if you made a good shit, just follow the trail for a bit and BAM dead animal. If you suck at shooting you will have to shoot it again though. The more trauma and shock the animal goes through the worse the meat ends up tasting, you do not want Adrenaline dumped meat.

Damn yall totally missed the eating people clues. So they said they only had 2 weeks of food or so. Then they gobin the kitchen and the cook says they only have 4 cans of soup left. Then a dude with a tray of random meat comes in. The lady hesitates to ask what the meat is. He long pauses then says venison. That was the dad that david said they wont kill until spring. Thats why they leaned into the people eating in such a gross fashion. This last part is assumption... but i assumed they do have deer and rabit meat for david and his higher ups. While the rest eat human. Notice the order of events. Lady says only 4 cans left. Random meat brought in. Dude says venison all weird. While eating david drags the deer back. They ate before they got the deer.
