There's a bunch of actors from the game that have small roles in the show: Merle Dandrige, who played Marlene in the game, also plays the same character in the show. Jeffrey Pierce, who played Tommy in the game, is Perry (aka cool guy with epic beard) in the show. There's more videogame actors to come in future episodes.

I have a replica of Ellie's pun book. It's awesome! Fun fact: the actor who plays Perry, Kathleen right hand man, did the mo-cap and voice of Tommy for the game.

Voice actor (a character I can't say yet. But Laura Bailey plays them) But yeah that's on top of the actor who plays Perry and Marlene being in her. :) kind of awesome nods to the game

Everything that Joel tells Ellie so bitterly about his brother has to be seen in context, because Joel is not very self-reflective. He just thinks Tommy needs him. But that doesn't necessarily have to be true. He pejoratively refers to Tommy as a joiner and hero who doesn't know what he wants and where he belongs. Tommy is a hero. This was already clear in episode 1 when he had to go to prison for hitting a man who attacked a woman. Every group that has disappointed him, because he wanted to do good, he left, because nothing good came out of it. That was the case with the Army and later with the Fireflys. Why do you think he left Joel and joined the Fireflys? We get the answer from Joel later in the stairwell when Ellie asks him if he has also killed innocent people. That's why Tommy left him. Tommy is an idealist and tries to be a good person. Joel is not. He sees things as he wants to see them in order to have a reason to keep going. And his view of things is therefore not really real. He thinks Tommy is dependent on him and can't cope without him. That's just his truth.

I can't believe that they weren't wearing seat belts before that. This is the apocalypse - any road could have multiple abandoned vehicles on them. You're driving along, you round a turn, and there's a truck in the middle of the road - you slam on the brakes and fly through the windshield because you weren't wearing seatbelts. There are no ambulances or doctors of 911. You should be very careful when driving in an apocalypse and assume death is behind every turn in the road.

The hard thing you are going to learn with this story is who are good people and who are not. The hint is that it is a zombie narrative and in zombie narratives the zombies are not the monsters. The creator asked his father about the story and the moral conflicts and how they are similar to some real world situations. His father said do you want me to answer as the leader of a country or as a father. The answer is different depending. Just be ready. This is such a dark story.
