@@TYandThatGuy You make such an obviously perfect point that plebs like me need it spelling out from time to time - its registered as one of those moments where a lucky rube like myself gains temporary insight into why I am here learning about storytelling week after week instead of watching 2 hour essays on how Lucasfilm are going to re - make the sequal trilogy as a result of them caring more about the quality of the films as opposed to the money they made. Not to mention Amazon's 'Rings of Power' which has generated such collection of critical analysis that when combined, has destroyed Tolkien's legacy for the thousands of real fans that have been forced to endure female characters as well as other cast members from across the globe. Hey guys, Fan #9 here. City of Thieves was about Leningrad, not Stalingrad. As a civilian Stalingrad was more about being next-door-neighbor to persistent horrific combat and the threat of getting shot or blown apart at any second, and while Leningrad had bombings and combat it was more about being trapped and starving in a frozen foodless wasteland. Can't recommend the book highly enough - two characters are arrested and sentenced to death unless they can find a dozen eggs in this foodless hellscape under a ticking clock. Benioff got a lot of shit for the last season of GoT falling flat narratively because he ran out of Martin material, but this is a great f-ing book.

Way, way back when this was barely announced I tweeted Craig Mazin and told him to cast Bella Ramsey and Wes Chatham as Ellie and Joel. He had replied to my tweets in the past so I’m sure he saw it, and I KNOW I was the first person to tweet those names to him (I checked with advanced search). 27:14 This discussion reminds me that Ty and Wes might really appreciate the novel/series _Children of Time_ by Adrian Tchaikovsky - It regards a human-engineered virus designed to accelerate evolution, but being exposed to unintentional subjects. The characterization of lifeforms familiar to us as the readers, _literally experiencing_ the spark of an accelerated evolution is nothing short of magnificent and utterly fascinating. Special shoutout to the second book in the series, _Children of Ruin_ , which I was also totally engrossed in.

As a huge fan of the games and the fact the show is filmed in my hometown city of Calgary I was heavily anticipating it's release. Had the chance to explore behind the scenes while they were filming. The downtown bridge scene in the second episode freaked me out as it was made up of heavily altered shots of the community of Bridgeland where I once lived. I can tell you from the sets and locations we toured the series does deviate from the original game so don't expect a straight across carryover in that regard however it was obvious from the beginning was no expense was spared on Sony Pictures and HBO's part towards design and production value. Everything I've seen supports refined changes throughout. Expect nothing short of an improvement beyond the game storylines but for you hardcore game fans out there keep an open mind to new and open possibilities. Scripting is planned to shift into the second game at some point and the series ending has already been written. It's been discussed they'll be shooting a minimum of 5 seasons. Likely more but impossible to say this far out. The producer has made it public "he doesn't intend to drag the show out and doesn't believe in loose endings" so expect an epic conclusion when it eventually wraps. Overall super excited for the series and the show in general, stay tuned.

I heard that with the ants, the cordyceps as it grows in the body, actually doesnt infect the brain. it infects the whole like respiratory system first, and controls the limbs and physical actions of the ants while the brain is generally left alone. It would be like having electrode message therapy all over your body when your muscles contract without brain function. Or the fungi chemically induces a high, where the ant doesnt know whats going on. But imagine if everyone infected was self aware for quite sometime after being infected. that scares me lol.

The reason the show starts in 2003 rather than 2013 can be explained in three words, well four, well five; next to no mobile phones. The proliferation of Information and news in 2003 was still mostly limited to the TV for A Lot of people. Especially kids and folks without tons of cash. The tension that builds through the first half of the episode wouldn't be believable a decade later, cos mobiles are almost everywhere by then and texts at least would have been sent and received. Shattering the suspense. 🙂

Craig Mazin is a really great director, which is somewhat unfortunate! Chernobyl was really effective at making people feel terrified of the potential danger of nuclear power, at a moment in history when we should be investing way more effort in transitioning to safe nuclear power. The Last of Us is also very effective in its horror, even though it's also about something we don't really need to fear. The bigger fear and terror underlying both stories is how horrible humanity itself can be within a collapsed world with broken systems, and that is what I find more compelling and relatable in his works.

I had the idea for a zombie book that was somewhat different. The zombies are relatively placid and retain some simple speech and memory. Instead of attacking humans they just wander around looking for corn fields. They frequently repeat “I just want to eat some corn”. You can sort of talk with them, but it is like talking with someone in late stages dementia. This seems like more of a Margaret Atwood book.
