As far as Ellie getting tired of the journey, the fact that she asked Joel "which way is west?" was to show that the loss of Sam instilled in her a deeper urgency to hopefully be the catalyst for the cure; she felt the call of responsibility.

The surgery that the first game literal revolves around and what causes ellie to resent Joel in the second game for not letting the doctors go through with it? And yes she's ridden with guilt especially because of Riley, wich turned in front of her and she didn't because she's inmune

The difference of TLOU’s infected to regular zombies is the fact that as the fungus grow out of their bodies and dry out, it also acts as a body armor. So a headshot doesn’t always work on the bigger infected like the Bloater since they’re not big because the host was a fat guy, it’s literally bigger because the fungus has been covering its body growing thicker and dry out on the outer sides

Ellie and Joel switch sides at the end. That was the Tess moment from episode 2. Ellie runs ahead while Joel is still waiting at the grave. Tess gave Joel a mission he wanted to fulfill as her last wish. The relationship that Joel had with Tess was similar to Ellie and Sam. Ellie promised Sam the cure here and couldn't keep this promise. She now wants to make sure that this never happens again. As Tess said at the time "save who you can save". Ellie really has a mission now. Indirectly get through her feelings of guilt. She wants her blood to work. Before that, she was someone who had no control over anything. Others have determined where she grows up and where she has to go now. Now that has changed. Now conviction plays a role and she takes control. She wants to save the world so that there are no more Sam's. And while Joel gradually finds his humanity again and lets people into his life again, Ellie loses a little more of herself and she takes the lead here in the end. I think the series showed that more clearly in this way than the game did. In addition, Ellie and Joel have reached a new level of connection with each other. Wordless understanding. Both wanted to save the brothers during the attack. That wasn't Joel's "don't do it Ellie" look. That was the look "I'll give you fire protection Ellie". And Ellie has absolute confidence in Joel. There was also a little joke about the game. The moment when the sniper shot and Henry and Sam senselessly ran out of cover, only to return immediately. This is how Ellie behaved very often in the game. She ran out of cover, right in front of the enemy and then back again. 🤦🏻‍♂️

In the game, in the underground community, the infected got in amongst them. One of the two protectors 'Donny' managed to hole up in a room with the children, but there was no way they were going to escape or be rescued. When you are exploring, you find the bodies of the children... just the feet sticking out from under a tarp or something. For me this was one of the saddest moments in the game. The other protector, 'Ish' managed to escape and every now and then you find a note of his, telling his story. I'm kinda glad they didn't show the end of the kids in the show. Also in the game, in the tunnels Joel and Sam are separated from Henry and Ellie and there is some major fighting of the infected to get through. LOL, welcome to 'Bloaters' stage four infected. Armour-plated behemoths with a nasty attitude. The first time i met one of these a died a lot of times, and they didn't get much easier with experience. Where were the infected going at the end... well, they'd just wiped out most of the armed residents, so i guess they were heading for the city. One of the things I don't get in movies generally is... why do they always make a big slice across the palm of their hand? You are basically rendering your hand useless until it heals because every time you use it you are just going to open the wound up. Crazy. In the game, Sam is about eleven years old and all too aware of what is happening to him. The whole scene is heart-breaking.

@@popculturallychallenged Only advice I will give is, Ammo is very scarce, don't waste it. Sneaking is often the best way. Oh and, of course, look EVERYWHERE for supplies lol. Do you want me to stop putting game spoilers in then?

Just a thought about Kathleen saying kids die all the time. Her brother was beaten to death, and when she was in her childhood room, they said they found her there because they had talked to her mother. That means she had to deal with her mother losing a child, and from the way the local FEDRA sounded, they seemed like the kind that would put the body of the leader of their rival out on display after beating him to death as a warning. Second, I believe Bryan, the kid Ellie shot, was Kathleen's son. He said they could work something out with his mother. Kathleen would have been the only one who could do that. He also said that his mother was nearby. Kathleen was the only woman we saw. So I believe she rationized that Henry brought in whoever these outsiders were, so he was responsible for the deaths of her brother and son. It would also explain why she would be so emotional about Bryan's death that she would immediately go beach and kill someone as valuable as a doctor. She asked "What if I had a doctor?" And she thought if he can't save my son, what's the point?

@Pop Culturally Challenged, 3:31 remember the smoldering bodies we saw last episode, when Joel and Ellie entered the city, just before the Ambush? Yikes! 3:40 Edelstein, Dr. Edelstein...the person the informant just implicated ='( 19:04 This is one of those 20 year ones that Joel was talking about, Bloaters! 20:23 in the direction of the lights, back to the city...where everyone else is. Kansas City is toast and will be swarming with all sorts of infected peoples in no time. Kathleen screwed her city for revenge...and she didn't even get her revenge. Yikes! 21:56 I know, right?! If she had, Sam might have still had a chance. We know the timetable for full Cordyceps infection thanks to the poster in the hospital in the Boston QZ. -bites on the neck, head and face: 5 to 15 minutes -bites on the torso, shoulder, arm and hand: 2 to 8 hours -bites on leg and foot 12 to 24 hours Sam might have been doomed either way given that they lacked the tools and medication for proper amputation, but we were already shown that amputation works--we saw at least three amputees in the Boston QZ. 23:43 Sam was Henry's purpose; he couldn't go on without him in the same way Bill couldn't go on without Frank. This is rough! Toni, Sam's turn was much worse in the live action version because Ellie knew he was bit! In the game, Sam kept it to himself and the others found out the next morning when Ellie went to go get him. The change up, was probably made for Ellie's character growth. She saw herself as invincible and thought her blood would easily cure people. It didn't dawn on her how incredibly difficult the task ahead is going to be. She still can't get infected, but the people around her that she cares about will always be at risk. And there will never be a cure if she doesn't make it to where Marlene wanted her to go. Ellie needs to toughen up and make sure that Joel can deliver her.

This wrecked my wife and I in 2013 when we played this, the show doing subtle changes is nice. Some are better some not as good but I appreciate not doing a shot for shot of the game. Best wishes to you both
