Very much the case. Plus, while Joel is a good dad, he's also portrayed as something of a bumbling dad (see his habit of forgetting shit; for one, this clearly isn't the first time Sarah's had to tell him his shirt is inside out), which is understandable and makes him even more endearing. He's not perfect, but boy is he trying.

Probably because she never had a mother or maternal figure (Joel met Tess after Sarah died) so Sarah learned to be self sufficient, not so different from Ellie except Ellie was born during the outbreak and was locked up in a military school for orphans during the outbreak so she didn't know what the world looked outside.

@@mst3KGf And Joel thinks he failed her because she died but that's not on him, he was unarmed, he had no way to shield her and she was murdered, she wasn't infected but at the time that's what the government was doing to prevent the virus from spreading, killing anyone on sight and even bombing places. I think Tommy also feels guilty because if he hadn't split up with them he could've saved Sarah, he was armed and could've at least negotiated with the soldier, he used to be part of the military but he left them unprotected so when he arrived it was too late and he could only save Joel.

In the game they didn't get infected because they lived in the countryside and the fungi was mostly spreading throughout the cities, in this show later on Joel says the same thing that the infected don't come to the countryside. The original story line makes way more sense especially since people don't buy flour everyday.

You know how many birthdays happen every single day? And what are do people buy on birthdays? Exactly, you should get the point. Realistically, the fungus would have an easier time infecting people via the flour supply because a large part of human diet in general consists of flour. This explains why in the show come night fall virtually the entire town was infected because people eat a lot of flour.

the contrast between sarah and ellie is interesting. Sarah see's and holds the knife admiring the carving and ultimately leaves it in the drawer, but Ellie would have most likely not only admired the carving but ultimately taken the knife with her (we see how much she cherishes her mother's knife) but tbf , Sarah didn't know that a freaking apocalypse was about to start that same day.

This is a very interesting pick up, that is how Quentin Tarantino writes scenes. A brief round up: there's a restaurant full of people, the camera pans and shows to the audience that there's a bomb beneath a table. Two people are currently sat on that table, but they don't talk about the bomb, instead they talk about the football game from last Sunday. The audience's response would naturally be: "what are you doing, THERE'S A BOMB UNDER THE TABLE!!" This is the same thing, the audience knows what the radio is going to mention, but for some reason Joel and Tommy thought it would be more interesting to talk about where Jakarta is located, than listening to the news. Beautifully written scene.

It's possible that the breading was made with a batch of flour that hadn't been contaminated by cordyceps yet. You can keep bread crumbs in a jar for long periods of time without them going bad, and in ep 3 Joel talks about how the chaos spread from when flour products that were placed on the shelves on Thursday evening.
