ELLIE
I'll follow you anywhere.
The first season of The Last of Us concludes with an emotionally charged episode that puts Joel and Ellie to the ultimate test. And it delivered! We are so excited to share this one with you, and can't wait for the second season!
Comment below and let us know what you thought of the show! Are you Team Joel or Team Fireflies?
Video Village: Des and I met while working on a television show - one of us a writer, the other in production - and we bonded over our love of all things movies and television. While we have seen a ton of great movies and shows in our time, each of us have missed some classics. This channel was started to remedy that tragedy and bring our inside-the-business perspective and banter to the KZbins. Come along with us as we play catch up in the world of TV and Film. There will be laughs, bad jokes, eye rolls, and most of all fun!

I honestly believe that this is probably one of the best shows of the year and Several people are probably going to be nominated for Emmy Awards for performances, writing and special effects and everything else.

For the giraffe you can see it through the tarps, he shadow, as it walks by before they go up to the next level. Also, the one they feed is real, the later scene with many is CGI.

This is what makes this story so great. Almost nothing is a simple black or white question.

Game Director Neil Druckmann Did a poll of his co-worker's on whether or not Joel should have done what he did, i.e. save Ellie. Of his co-workers that weren't parents it was split 50/50 of the employee's who had children 100% choose to save Ellie. Fun little Fact.

Team Joel. This game is easily my top 3 story in videogames history, because the characters are great. Nothing is black and white. The performances in the game have become ingrained in my soul, because I played it so much and watched others play it for the first time. The show is a fantastic adaptation and Pedro and Bella nailed their characters. The second game is another story and I am curious about how they will adapt Part II for a tv audience. Not easy, in my opinion. Last but not least: I loved your dynamic - Greg knew what would happen, Des went in completely blind. I’d say keep it that way.

To me it's not even a question of teams, or even of right and wrong. Joel's a parent, and it's clear he now regards Ellie as his kid. There's never any question of what he should do. Like Bill said in his letter, he has a job to do, and God help any MFers who stand in his way.

Thank you both for your articulate, thoughtful, and emotionally relatable conversations-quite enjoyable. (Only quibble is that the volume of the intro & outro music (accompanying your channel info.) is far louder than volume/sound level of rest of show, which is ouchy/jarring for those of us using earbuds). Appreciate the content you provide, is much appreciated :)

You missed a HUGE “cameo”. One of the nurses at the end has a…significant role in part 2 😂

FYI. The giraffe was real. They filmed it at the Calgary zoo. I know a bunch of people that worked in Set Dec. It’s a 13 year old male giraffe named Nabo, and they covered his enclosure with blue paneling for about a month to get him comfortable before filming the scene. Everything else is CGI.

My thought process is that if they asked Ellie and she said no, would they really just let that be and let her leave? I don’t think so, I think if they asked and she said no they would have done it forcefully.. that’s how I justify what Joel did because once she got there they were not going to let her leave…

Joel is a monster, he doomed the world. When he was face to face with Marlene he had the chance to give Ellie a choice if he talked it out. Yes it became more complicated with him killing the doctor but it's still a chance.

Heck, they didn't even know if their theory about why she was immune was correct. They never met her, didn't do ANY tests or studying, just jumped both feet into a hypothesis that had just as much chance of being wrong. Open up her brain just to find it wasn't what they thought. And even if they were right about why they'd have to do tests and trials with limited samples. And then how do they even manufacture and distribute it? It's certainly not black & white, and Joel and Marlene were both selfish in their actions, but I personally doubt the plan would have even worked. There were too many guesses and points where it could have fallen apart. But all Marlene had to do was actually ask Ellie and let Joel talk to her. But Ellie was also in no condition to make informed consent, and Marlene knew it.
