honestly, if there was another fun way to play digimon, like commander, I think it would help expand the fan base, creativity and fun.

I think the only way to accomplish this is the community comes up with a fun format, then popular content creators make content of it, and then we mention it in surveys and such or play it as like grassroots side events? Bandai posed some with I think an Ultimate Cup survey once but a more standard format was picked.

Unfortunately, we had alternate formats with Ultimate Cups in the past. Instead of embracing that and letting them change it over time, everyone just complained until they made it normal format. So Bandai thinks the west hates different formats

@walkersikorski6924 I was specifically referring to the alternate actual formats suggested there like Super Security and Boss Rush along with multi-player. People didn't like having their decks invalidated. I can see why. You don't want to invest in Xros Heart then get shanked by Monocolor Format; you paid money. Also you paid money to be in Ultimate Cup, so you want a serious format. I liked the alternate formats myself, though. So, TBH, I think best of both worlds is alternate/preview bans like they were a couple of times. Though I'd love to see one with side decks again. I think new creative formats like multi-player kinda have to be done through table play or side events. Give us more 3v3s at least.

@@VirtualVictrola another factor could be magic has almost a million cards and probably over 100 archetypes while Digimon hasn’t reach that level of seniority

@@SuperChucknorrisman Perhaps. I'd say that's more conducive to formats like pauper and singleton. I feel like you can have fun with a multi-player format in Digimon without really copying EDC/Commander. And I feel like there's other fun ideas centralized around Digimon's unique mechanics like security and memory.

I feel like we need to promote jank decks again. That and just use some of the generics. With popular decks being reliant on archetypes, it kind of creates a cycle of cookie cutter decks to compete. Funny table play is best play. And sometimes good ideas can come from that. I've really liked that one small "archetype" in Japan combining Birds and Vegetation for a wide bottom end and just good stuff like Leopardmon X on the top for control. We need more out of the box thinking like that.

Honestly, the ukko choice restrict is bound to happen. Honestly the best route that Bandai can make is so you can only have a combination of 4 ukko, unless you have big Ukko in your deck. Bandai will most likely do that and see how it settles. Next banlist is either soon or in format unification

If I can bring up a ban list topic here I think maybe one of the things that could/should be hit or looked at is the new Davis and Ken from bt16 and possibly the new option card for imperial coming out. From my experience, the Davis and Ken spit up a free body every turn at no cost and has alot of positives to it and no drawbacks really. I know that option card coming out in bt17 is really good and might want to be looked at in the future.

I think if there is anything op in imperial is Paildramon, the fact it just makes it so nothing in your board can unsuspend even if it is a new digimon while already possibly suspending everything already on board. It goes in for 2 checks most times and it even gets more checks if it dies due to partition, that is so huge.

@@kyubi427 btw, I forgot to mention you can potentially get your Imperials killed, partition and trigger the Paladin Mode option in bt17 to get yourself a lvl6/7 and another Paildra/2 lvl 4s

Shoutmon x4 and greymon x are no longer problematic they should leave the banlist, however jetsilphy never should because healing for 1 with no security limit is busted.

5:42 *deep sigh* in all honesty, this is how I’ve been feeling about Digimon. These past two weeks I’ve been looking at DBSFW and Lorcana gameplay and I’ve been missing the whole, “build any deck for fun and enjoy the game.” feeling. Digimon is just full of 4 repetitive meta decks and it’s not enjoyable as it used to be. Waiting for another set to come out only to continue seeing the same meta top day in and day out is sucking the fun out of it. Lorcana is so diverse that I’m honestly considering playing that now and Digimon will just be my toxic ex that I’ll come back to from time to time just for a minor enjoyment. What should I do Mario? Or anyone? Asking for a friend 😢

Same except it's union arena instead of dbsfw and lorcana. Also I play one piece too. Sure it's a meta of top 4-5 decks and not much else but it's still fun.

Honestly I feel like you’ll have this feeling eventually with any card game. Most card games start out extremely diverse (as did Digimon) but as time progresses you develop tighter metas. I do feel what is good about Digimon is every set introduces at least 1 new meta (or near meta) deck into the circle. It’s also a bit of a lose lose situation, if the meta is changing rapidly people complain about their decks not having longevity, if decks have longevity and remain meta for a few sets people complain the meta is boring. To my original point though, if you have the mindset of just jumping ship you’ll constantly be switching card games (which isn’t a bad thing per say) but it’s similar to someone in a relationship constantly chasing “the spark”. You’ll have it for a little while but it will dim like it did the last time.
