Well, Clemens actually could have survived since he wasn't on the boat when they found it. I think the filmmakers are too clever to use him as a Van Helsing character for sequels (He probably died that night at the end I think) especially since they have so many book references. D leaps like a leopard on the first crewmember. He taunts and smirks at Olgaren, as he does with Mina in the book. And he smashes that guys face in, like he does with Renfield. He's also skinny in the book. I liked this one. Cool adaptation.

Sucks they weren't detectives. They should've lit the boat on fire after finding out Dracula would burn in the sun. Loved this movie. Not all stories are happy ones.

Dracula doesn't burn in the sun. This is book Dracula. He walks around in broad daylight. His powers are diminished during the day, and that is mostly when he sleeps. Newly created vampires are another thing.

If you want an movie where the dogs live through almost all it, at the expense of soldiers... See if you can find 2001's "Dog Soldiers". Liam Cunningham is also in it.

I like it that clemmonts survived because it Makes him the actual Van Helsing after surviving the boat crash and to me it makes sense for him to finish off Dracula to hunt him down like Van helsing then people eventually start calling him by the name Van Helsing instead of clemmonts

I'm sorry to be six months late in finding this. Even though Christopher Lee is my favorite actor to take the role... this film presents the most primal and savage Dracula I've ever seen. I've loved Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula" to close to forty years and this is right up there with the best renditions. It was a brave and brilliant choice to base the movie off of a *piece* of one chapter in the book. It's a piece of the tale that's never really been explored before, and they pulled it off quite splendidly.

The Netflix Dracula series was good. 2nd episode was about the Demeter. I enjoyed the dialog. Check it out if you haven't.

One big issue I have with the amount of sailors and ppl on the ship. No matter if its a merchant or transport of goods, it must have more crewmen to maintain an fully functional environment on deck. Imagine how many stuff is gonna go on or happen and you dont have enough crewmen. Or enough guns or swords to protect your cargo. This movie didn't do too bad, but i just hate the ideal they believe an ship can be maintained by a small crew when thats rare rare.
