Message to Tusi Gabbard: Assuming Ukraine still exists after the war has ended, membership in NATO is a given. NATO has already accepted Ukraines application in July 2023 and has committed to fast-track its membership. Neither Putin nor Trump can prevent this any longer. Unless Ukraine would elect another Russia friendly government and would withdraw its applications, which I think is unlikely to happen. Otherwise, Russia would have to occupy the whole of Ukraine, and they do not have the resources for that. Ms Gabbard also should consider that Putin can end this illegal war any day by retreating his troops behind its internationally recognized borders. Given Russia's track record in upgolding agreements, there is no reason what so ever to believe that the current Russian government would stick to any peace treaty. Brief reminder: - Russia attacked Ukraine in 2014 when joining NATO was already off the table when the then Ukraine President Yanukovych had renounced seeking membership with NATO in 2010, and thus is in breach of the *Budapest Memorandum of 1995* as well as - the *Russian-Ukrainian Friendship Treaty*, which was extended in 2008 and in which Russia also has also guaranteed Ukraine's territorial integrity. - The *Black Sea Grain Initiative* from July 2022, in which Russia and Ukraine signed agreements with Turkey and the United Nations intended to secure exports via the Black Sea. The next day, Russia fired missiles at the port city of Odesa, through which Ukrainian grain flows and formally declared Ukrainian ports unsafe. - Armenia has notified it is goint to leave the Warsaw Pact successor organizations STO/CSTO after it had to find out that Russia's promise of military assistance could not be relied upon, following 3 other countries that have already left the organization, as well as considering in earnest to go the next step by joining the European Union. - Putin has successfully pressured the Asarow government to refuse to sign the *European Union-Ukraine Association Agreement* by threatening with economic sanctions for months, despite of having *assured EU Commission President Baroso in 2012 that he would not oppose it*, which is what has triggered of the the Maidan Uprising on November 2013. A further consequence of Russia's attack on mainland Ukraine in February 2022 was the application of Finland and Sweden - two neutral border countries to the Russian Federation no less- to join NATO. So, if Putin's aim was to prevent to have more countries to his western flank, he failed royally. Surely, his generals gave this strategic genius an appreciative pat on his back.
