The DHO to make non-shooting bigs less of a liability on offense is a nice facet, and I think also a little bit of a counter to the emphasiss on moving screens in officiating, where ball handlers have more leeway to make contact.

That second one is so smart. The defensive big is always in drop, so it's an open shot each time. Plus the Heat have guys like Lowry who can burn you for going over the screen.

The double drag screen is effective because it forces the defense to make quick decisions and rotations. If executed well, it can create scoring opportunities not only for the ball handler but also for the rolling big men and perimeter shooters, making it a versatile and challenging play to defend. NBA teams often use variations of this play to exploit defensive weaknesses and create open shots for their players.

@coachdaniel8163 the double drag variant in the first clip is called horns chest or drag chest around the league. The nets were the first team I recall running it frequently back in the 13-14 season. It started with the 4 & 5 as screeners but during that season they also started putting guards like Joe Johnson as a screener.

The suns last year ran double drag a bunch at the end of games. With the combo of Beal, Booker, and Durant, I bet they'll run it even more, given that they could mix and match each of the three at different roles in the action.

Daniel, but what happens if having the center on the perimeter is defended the way the Warriors defended Sabonis in the first round, denying the handoff with the perimeter defender and having center protecting the paint? Why that defense was so effective?
@coachdaniel8163 Жыл бұрын
Good question. The main difference there is GSW was able to deny those handoffs on the Kings set plays when they were more predictable. The Heat were using the handoffs after a drive or a skip pass which makes it much tougher to then deny Bam's handoff.
@TheTMSxGaming Жыл бұрын
As a Heat fan, in the case when the hand off is denied for Bam, because of his comfort in the midrange he’s able to get a shot up or make a play deeper at the foul line

You should do a video on Joe Mazzulas favorite set plays Btw that play obviously has a name, its the super-double-high-2nd-man-flare-screen....duh

Ha that 2nd play on here for Klay is a staple. They run it as SLOB end of game all the time. It’s amazing how often it works. Even in playoff series. Guys see the initial form and like, don’t react to Klay being up top instead of someone else and don’t adjust. Over and over Edit: ha! Same play on the 4th play. It works SO often! Getting caught on this late in a playoff series really shows the Steph gravity effect in action. He destroys all principles including “never leave Klay” haha I’m just some dude and I can see this coming now when klays in the double drag now bcuz they almost never don’t run this if he’s up top. And it’s very obvious haha I mean they get it in game winners! 😂

This video is why I am glad the Lakers GM rejected shot-blocker Bismack Biyombo in favor of 37.6% for 3-pointers off 4.2 attempts per game Center Christian Wood. Double Drag Ballscreen with the 2nd ballscreener receiving a Flare Screen or go under the screen to opposite wing for catch & shoot 3-pointers.

when i see new ways to shoot 3 pointers - i stop watching rest of it ... i am soo done with 3s all the time. of course i have nothing against people who like this kind of basketball. if you like it - i am happy that you like basketball. i just do not like it personally. i wish basketball rules again be set to promote more low post play - as it is all becauase how rules are set and how referees do their job and not because coaches play certain way. example how rules make everything happen and not coaches: if you will change rule for again 2 free throws (not 3 like it is now from some time) for foul when shooting 3 pointer as it was in the past - this one rule will make coaches change their playing style. why ? because defenders will be able to defend 3 pointers with more agression as in the end ... you will lose "2 points and 1" not "3 and 1". i could post more example how certain rules promote certain playing style (example numer 2 - some of today dribbling would be not allowed in the past - why - because nba wants to promote smaller faster players and allowed them to carry ball in the way that was not allowed in the past) ... (really there is plenty of examples ...). soo i am always laughing how much people think this is because coaches do something. this is because nba wants rules to be set in certain way.
@marcr196 Жыл бұрын
I don't think making 3's worth only two free throws would be worth much. Most 3 point shooters are very good free throw shooters. A three point attempt that ends up being fouled would end up averaging 1.8 points if they are an 80% free throw shooter, which is still ridiculously efficient. Its not the player or coach's fault that the 3 pointer has become so important, its the math behind it combined with increased practice creating better 3 point shooters. Basically the only way to reduce perimeter play is to make 3 point percentage go down by moving the three point line back. I am in favor of expanding the floor width so that corner 3s still exist, but where they are as far as current above-the-break 3s are. Coaches can then weigh the importance of guarding more mediocre shooters, while elite shooters still provide the spacing for drives. It also could incentivize more inside-out style of play a la Hakeem's rockets given the extra distance anyone who doubled the player in the post would have to recover to a shooter to.
