Interesting experiment. Good work. Now rest that lathering hand and arm.

Great experiment! Why did I spend that much money on different brushes when all make a good lather? I have all 4 animals as well. My brushes are in the < 10€/£ range. Is there a difference when you go above 100 €/£? You are mentioning that you have hard water. May I suggest to compare tap water with bottled water? Volvic has a low amount of Ca. I can’t compare it since I have soft tap water (50 mg of Ca per l) at home. I‘m looking forward to the next instalment of Maja’s shaving lab.

The difference will be the quality of the hair/knot there are many grades of softness and also shape.

Hi, I think it depends also on knots' diameter

I’ve heard that synthetic will work better with shaving cream than soap.Great comparison! Thank you for your time and efforts!

I wouldn't say that. Synthetic is just instant and stays the same, a natural one gets better and better the more you use it.

Omega Proraso 27mm boar brush for $ 9. What could be better? I also have a quality badger brush. But I don't use it. The badger is too soft for me. The boar massages the face much more pleasantly. And the most important thing: is worth a penny.

I like all natural, Horse comes super soft to boar like, Badger can be more stiff too if one takes the pure badger and I prefer the premium boar which is a little softer than the normal. I have been exploring natural mixes Badger Boar Badger Horse Boar Horse and mixed horse and Horse It's just amazing how different each one is.

Very interesting, Maja! I think other considerations which might outweigh the ease of building lather are a brush's lather capacity, how well it paints, and the softness of its tips (face-feel).

Yes of course those are also super important - Unfortunately I haven't got enough different of the same type natural hair brushes to do that sort of test. The two badgers I have are the same dual band. The other considerations are of course handle type and size and knot type and size, there is so much to explore!

I think most barbers use boar brushes.
@majasmagic4 жыл бұрын
Yes they do as they are economic and once broken in very soft. Although in finer establishments these days they also have the range available to choose from: badger, horse, boar and synthetic
