"When Brigham Young proposed it to the brethren at Winter Quarters, he could not move them; only one or two of the apostles would listen to him. The rest announced their intention to follow their own plans and get rich." Hugh Nibley "Approaching Zion" Page 469. What he did not discuss is why the brethren robbed the Bishops storehouse in their efforts to get rich and gave themselves waivers from paying tithing. Elder Bednar was right when he discussed us being the last wagon in this contemporary wagon train and boy are we dealing with a lot of messes made by the previous generations.

So basically you give up everything and all other pursuits come secondary to the requirements of the church. I can guarantee that this will not lead to happiness at all
@CMCovey5 ай бұрын
You are correct, that would not. This video is a fantastic introduction to the Law of Consecration but you have picked up on a few of the nuances that could use some clarification. The Laws of Obedience and Sacrafice are Telestial laws "Commandments" that give you access to God's blessings and get you out of bondage and captivity. The Law of the Gospel is a Terrestrial Law that are "Principles" and make you free from your fellow man who would try to afflict you. The laws of Consecration and Chastity are Celestial laws "Invitations". Once you start trying to live the law of consecration you are taught by Heavenly Father and his messengers how to live it and what to do specifically and the differerenciation between your stewardship and your inheritance. If you wanted to live it after 1832 you would go to Bishop Partridge and you had to Enter in by the Law in the Book of the Law (Doctrine and Covenants 85) and you would recieve your inheritance in a City of Zion ( not a Stake of Zion). After the saints left Independence missouri the church didnt implement the Law of Consecration anymore, only the United Order and the United Firm in Nauvoo and Orderville ect and there are no City's of Zion currently in existence that the church has publicized. To Enter in by the Law you report all your worldly possessions but you dont give all. You would tell Bishop Partridge what you needed to retain or recieve to provide for the wants and needs of your family. Happy Zioning!!

Also, yes you give up your personal pursuits for the pursuits Hevenly Father has for you (which are the best).

The Mormon religion is emerged in the Old Testament. They still live by the law, after Jesus was sacrificed the law changed and Jesus was sufficient, no need for so many covenants and laws. Peter explains this very well. 2 Peter 1:3-4 His (God's) divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. We just need personal faith and to activate God's promises and all else will follow.

Hollaye, nicely put, but not completely true. The Lord has commanded that we enter into holy covenants with God in his temple and live by them in order to inherit eternal life as revealed by the Prophet Joseph Smith. Contact the missionaries to learn more. The cannon of modern-day revelation found exclusively in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes all the difference. Now you know.

Holly after Jesus death the apostles still went to the temple . Why is Jesus coming back to his temple in Jerusalem then to be built ? We still need temples . We just do not do animal sacrifices . We now do a broken heart and a contrite spirit . We still learn a lot in temples . The temple is the Lords House . Always will be .

@@1zcott Yes but you are following a man who married young underage girls and threatened them and their families eternal salvation if they didn't. Today no one would follow a man who did this. Joseph Smith declared himself a prophet.

@@br5339 she's right though. We are supposed to refer to ourselves as members of the church of Jesus Christ and latter saints. If we don't do so, we are against the prophets words which is God's words.
