These old workings are very evocative of the history and the hard lives of the people who worked them. Thanks for a great video.

I have been in the Mining industry for over 40 years in the Murchison Goldfield of Western Australia and was fortunate enough to be working at the time we went from traditional underground mining to open cut. Of course, in our greed we take EVERYTHING nowadays and do not leave impressive remains like this. I was fortunate enough to be a supervisor in the Great Fingall Pit operation where we mined around the largest gold bearing quartz vein thus far found on the planet with traditional stopes up to 18 Meters wide and going down some 700 Meters. The old timers mined (by hand) well over 1 million tons for well over 1million ounces. (wish I could find another one). I also spent a lot of time in various roles from airleg miner to Manager at the Big Bell Mine, then open pit and back to underground mine. Lots of challenges, lots of friends and a worthwhile career.

Super interesting Stephen,I’m assuming an ounce a ton that the old guys mined was pretty good!
@stephenmanning15535 ай бұрын
@@markhepworth Oh gosh yes. Nowadays we mine 35Tons + for one ounce. The price of gold is so high it is still profitable.

There are lots of clay pigeons in there, most broken and shot but I found two that had been launched, missed by the shooter and landed intact!

Beautiful and mind blowing geology. You then start to think where did all that lead go and is any of it still around today.

Very impressive video showing what looks like a great site to explore. Much as I love your underground stuff, it's good to see what stuff would look like to us mere mortals who don't venture underground any more...

Thankyou, I’m producing a few of the surface videos during the summer months, next one up in 3 weeks time is very different and one of my favourite videos so far. Filming a huge one also hopefully in the next few days too.

I would say that early medieval quarrying exposed the vein that was then mined before large scale quarrying was carried out.

Well, further down the valley is the tips from the lead mine clearly pre-dating the ironstone mine, plus the records for both exist in the archives.
