It really hurts to see people who can't understand how freeing gender expression can be. And, in terms of transitioning, how (in the grand scheme of things) little we ask for. All I want is for people to respect that I go by they/them, and that my chest makes me uncomfortable. And for trans folks who need/want more, that's their right, too! It's not an "attack on your values" or "a way to tear America apart". When I got my driver's license, I had the choice to put an "X" for my sex marker. I teared up when I finally got it in the mail. It's such a little thing that meant so, so much.

If it helps, most of us realize that people expressing their gender identity isn't some big threat or attack on anyone. These people don't want any kind of self expression that differs from the strict hierarchies that they inevitably profit from. Having individuals whose very existence calls into questions the reality of their gender determined economy is a threat, whether that's trans individuals or women who want to work outside of the house and don't want children.

About how intersex surgery is often explicitly excluded from anti-trans bills, so that children can continue to be operated on. Common sense is my least fav phrase. It's not common it's shaped by your culture. My fav hypothetical to explain this is: if three civilization are dealing with a drought. All of these civilizations have completely different ideas on how to fix this. One might think it's common sense to conserve water. Another might think it's commons sense to appease a god by throwing a festival and ritual dance. The other might think it's common sense to have a human sacrifice. All three are common sense to the three civilizations they come from. However, if it was actually common sense they would have the same solutions to the problem. Another good example is some will say it's common sense there's only "2 genders" however if they were raised in a different culture where they acknowledge more than 2 genders. They would say it's common sense that there's more than 2 genders.
