I use a c-clamp to add my maker's mark. I don't have a press. So I place my leather and maker's mark stamp on the workbench. I place my c-clamp at the center of my stamp. I simply tighten it to give a good and even impression. I can have better and consistent results this way.

I use a lot or "F" clamps in my shop. i find that they are easier to adjust to the rough size and then use the screw on them to tighten them the rest of the way.

im both a leather and wood worker, the down side is i need twice the room. Too many skills not enough work space is a huge problem. I find myself having many different environments for my interest....studio for music gear, barn for leather and wood work, garage for car work, utility shed for lawn and garden tools and machinery, etc etc It's starting to look like im building a small town on my property

I haven't mounted my arbor press on my bench because I don't want to drill holes through the nice wood top I have on it. No idea why I've never thought of using a couple C-Clamps to hold it down. Thanks, Chuck!

I got a metal combo yard/meter stick from my local Michael's craft store. They had longer ones there as well. I'm sure a big box hardware store has similar. I also got a roll of non slip tape for the back from Amazon.

Another good option is to use M6 or M8 inserts in your bench or a separate board then you can bolt down all your different tools and machines when needed.

Recommend using a 6" long scrap piece of wood between the C-clamp and straight edge. One time I clamped a straight edge directly to the work bench with a C-clamp and put a bend in the straight edge. Never again.

Along these same lines .. I default to the "quick-grip" squeeze clamps. They have a larger "face" and are much easier to use one handed.
