I was so excited when I pulled this sweep in a live roll the first time. The bicep crunch is a bonus as well.

This is by far my favorite sweep. This one's slightly different from the one I originally learned, so it's awesome to have both in my arsenal. Thanks coach!

Awesome sweep! This was one of the first sweeps I learned a couple years ago and still use, but I learned to do it when my opponent is standing, and I would hook the leg instead of gripping the pants. Will definitely try this sweep tonight, thanks!

The Grappling Academy Haha that’s awesome! I can’t imagine having a 200hp rocket. The only Kawasaki I had was a Ninja 250r, but I’ve got a Suzuki Gsxr 750 now. Thinking of a Yamaha FZ-09/07 next season.

This technique has been vary effective for me! Was so easy to set up due to people thinking I made a mistake by opening the right side up! Thanks!

Coach Tom, can you please show the bicep crusher from post sweep position or link me to a video explaining it.
@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
I will add it to my filming list when I next teach Lassoo. But more or less, just keep your lasso sleeve grip and come up and squish his forearm with your body weight through your belly. Be careful though, as if you sprawl back...bad things will happen to his bicep and elbow! (-: Coach Tom

+Mauricio León Ruiz just use a strong wrist grip and undertook the leg instead of gi grips. If you lose the arm, transition straight into omoplatas, arm bars and triangles if it slips out mid sweep! (-: Coach Tom

I've used this for years but it is NOT a bread-and-butter move. It is a gimmick move that only works if people don't know it. It's easy for your opponent to stuff if he is familiar with it. Notice the instructor says "what he thinks is a dumb move", implying it is for use on someone who doesn't know it.
@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree with your view here as many people like myself, not too mention champions like Samir Chantre, use it as part of their bread and butter game. The key at higher levels is to combine it with spider, de la rive, reverse de la riva, lapel and shin to shin guards to keep advanced opponents behind the eight ball. Be patient and work on other techniques and you will find it will come back as one of your highest percentage sweeps. Take care James (-: Coach Tom

I agree that leg lasso is very good, its just this sweep that I believe is not good against people who know what they are doing. I have swept brown belts with it who didn't know what was coming, but I have had it stuffed by blue belts who were aware of it.
@sebastiangheorghe64056 жыл бұрын
What options you have when opponent lean back?
@garrydye23946 жыл бұрын
@@TheGrapplingAcademy I agree with both here...if you are trying to set this up as a stand alone sweep...it's hard to pull off. But you need to walk before you can run. You need to "catch" your opponent with switching between guards and setting things up. To much to show in a single video and to complicated for most at this level. I still scissor sweep the hell out of people at the higher belts because I can set it up with lapel guard to submission attempt to scissor sweep. I would never catch it as stand alone move. It's all about the set ups. That is why as you get better at BJJ it is good to work on chaining your moves, sweeps, submissions together instead of thinking of them as stand alone parts. Either way, great video.
@TheGrapplingAcademy6 жыл бұрын
Great point there Garry on combing basic techniques and disguising them in transitions. Open guard transitions to scissor sweeps often work way too well! (-: Tom Davey

THE COUNTER: to this sweep is super simple....the hand that is being lasso'd....bend your wrist towards your own stomach and twist it around until you have moved your own hand to outside of his leg (you can see in the video it is inside blacks leg). This leaves this sweep dead in the water. So with that being said the most important part of this sweep is to NOT let your opponent do this. Any legit blue belt and above will begin to move his own hand to the outside of your leg the moment you even begin to lasso his arm. It's great to follow up with a counter to each sweep so that you can see how your opponent is going to try and counter you...so you can begin to counter his counter. If he can counter your lasso before you begin to counter his counter...this sweep will not work. It all comes down to which side of your own leg his hand is on. If its on the inside....your winning...if its on the outside of your own leg...he is winning. IF you keep trying this sweep and it's not working...that might be why. Fine detail that must be known. It's all in the details. Hope that helps someone.

This is a good point. Do watch for the sneaky wrist lock though when you gooseneck your hand around the thigh! I love catching people with that one! Happy rolling (-: Tom Davey

Hey coach, may I make a suggestion? I get a little frustrated when you say things like "it works on your feet" or "it works no gi" and you leave it like that... May I suggest that when you say things like that that you show us just once, so that we may have an idea on how it works otherwise? Other than that, I love your channel!
