The Legacy Of Bald Eagles Romeo and Juliet

The newest addition to the NEFL family comes from a long tradition set in motion by bald eagles Romeo and Juliet who left the nest only for one of their offspring-Samson- to claim it. NE24 has spent a month in the nest and now the Hamlet community has chosen the name that this young eaglet shall carry, which is Legacy, in honor of his lineage from Romeo and Juliet.

Remembering the Patriarch and Matriarch of this special villa is bittersweet. It reminds us of that the cycle of life continues through joy and sorrow. How fitting is it that their son Samson returns to his birthplace, finds his Gabriella, and together are continuing to bring joy and life for future generations to cheer them on through success and trials. @@amicus9811 - Maybe Liz/AEF would, someone here, or that has another eagle board. Juliet came back with blood on her beak twice - some say it was a territorial fight. They never found her - looked for her too. Romeo tried to incubate the eaglet that hatched within 2 or 3 days and find food - that led to an adult eagle taking the baby - food for it or its own eaglet. The other egg was non-viable. Romeo came back to an empty nest and then flew away knowing all hope was gone. Neither have been seen after that. Stephanie

You did a beautiful job on this. Every time I watch this nest I think of Romeo and Juliet and how fitting it is that their offspring, Samson, has continued their legacy. NE24's name, Legacy, is the most perfect name ever given to an eaglet.

Theres eagles that have a nest in our neighbors tree. They used to be in a dead Ash tree. So when thr city eventually took the tree down they relocated to a tree 50 feet away. Awesome to see the babies every year. One year there were 3!

@@dewilew2137 - Juliet was involved in a territorial dispute and was injured by another female Eagle. She was seen on the nest with blood on her and likely passed from her injuries somewhere off camera. It was so sad and many of my friends who loved her took it very hard. That season just got worse after Juliet disappeared and it ended up being one of the most tragic occurrences on live Eagle cam to date.

The egg is no longer viable. Not uncommon in the eagle world. Usually one of the adults buries it in the nest but Legacy is attached to it so they seem to be leaving it alone for now. ❤️🦅❤️
