Meh, "stuff he found in the basement" is child's play, I made a plasma containment chamber out of a microwave I found in the move-out dumpster, a pickle jar, and a wad of tinfoil. Worked great for about 8 minutes or so before it caught on fire, shorted out, and tripped the breaker for the floor. Anyway, that's how I got banned from campus housing.

I did an internship at a relatively prestigious private university, where we worked on making a drone that could map the bottom of the ocean. Wasn’t nearly as unsafe as your place, but there was somewhat unsafe drone operation and I set a LiPo battery a little bit on fire (nothing catastrophic, connector got a bit charred). Also it was just 2 profs, 10-15 teammates from my robotics team and 5-7 foreign exchange students. Upside was we were able to go out and get both sushi and high end bbq ( separate occasions) on university dime.
