I just rented this on KZbin, I haven't seen it since 73, I'm 54 now. I love this song, and I miss my mom and pops. A Friday night, a bucket of KFC with all the sides or some home cooked fried chicken and some sweat tea. Damn, those was some good times. That shit brought a tear.

At the point this song is first heard in the movie, it has been really scary. But when it plays you are still afraid but less so because you are also sad for the creature. For me, hearing the song at the end and the voiceover that accompanies it, I cry like I did then.

i feel the exact same way. this wonderful film played in the late 1970's-early 1980's pretty regularly on weekends on channel 5 wnyw in new york when i was a kid. this beauting, haunting song stayed with me for 30 years until i found it on youtube 30 years later & i cried like a baby. rest in heavenly peace to my parents, til i'm reunited with them.

For the time it was. The movie was made on a budget of $100,000 and took in 25 million. And this was in 1972 so when you adjust for inflation, it equals up to over 150 million today. Not bad for an independent film.

I remember first watching this in the mid 70s on tv with my dad and brothers eating popcorn. This song brings back fond memories of my dad and mom. Rip. I own this movie on VHS and DVD. Scary then and even today very eerie and creepy. Strange unexplained noises in the night. 😱😱

Remember watching this with my dad way way back. There used to be a channel that did horror movies late at night on Saturdays in the late Seventies. He got me hooked on Kulchak The Night Stalker. Remember that too.

It makes us feel sorry for the creature. He's not evil or bloodthirsty. He's a lonely being, perhaps the very last of his kind, destined to die alone in the Arkansas woods, mostly forgotten by the world.

the only horror movie that closes with a song that tries to understand the inner pain of the villain/monster?
@casesoutherland41756 ай бұрын
And it does it in the simplest way. The Fouke monster isn't a bloodthirsty killer. He's misunderstood.

I first seen this movie on TV playing at KTLA channel 5, Family Film Festival at a taco restaurant 7th and Broadway DownTown Los Angeles... Didn't matter that it was at a busy intersection in the middle of a city my 8 year old self was still scared that a giant hairy beast was going to pop out of an alley way ... man that movie was scary..

I feel sorry for the creature. I think he is actually lonely and wants a friend but is the only one of his kind in the area and so he tries making friends with the humans but they think he is dangerous and he is sad about it. I would be friends with him.

"The Town That Dreaded Sundown" obviously was made by the same movie crew of this one. Even the same narrator. It's a sort of combination of "Boggy Creek" and "Friday the 13th, Part 2". (Both claiming to be based on true events)
