Incredible explanation! You have a good way of telling the rules by giving examples

@nutherefurlong: each turn you have an encounter, or a new monster, or both. The pressure is continuous, true, but a sense of crescendo is built in the fact that your heroes become gradually weaker and weaker, so the steady flow of dangers still feels gradually more threatening. and in the end you have the big boss. Everyone in my group loved the pace. Others want to share their experience?

I have all the Drizzt books from R.A. Salvatore. Love them. One of my favorite writers. He descriptions of fights are perfect. All the characters in the game are part of the books. I just bought this game on the Walmart website for $31. I can hardly wait to play it when it arrives. It will be like playing the books. Some of the characters like Artemis at one time tried to kill Drizzt but later became friends sort of. Jarlaxle came from Drizzt's home city. A scumbag, but very powerful. In the books Drizzt ends up marrying Catti-brie, she is the adopted daughter of King Brunnor.(spelled wrong) one of the dwarfs. Wulfgar is Drizzt's best friend, they fight a white dragon by themselves in a cave. Anyway, you can tell I am excited to be getting the game. Great review.

Thanks once again for a great review, Marco! I might not have given these D&D games much consideration before I saw your reviews, and now the only question is which one to get first. I like the variety of the tiles in Drizzt, but I prefer the classic monsters in Ashardalon, so that'll probably be the one I get first. But I wasn't considering Drizzt at all until watching this, so thanks for showing me so concisely and enthusiastically what the differences are. Your reviews are always super helpful.

HOUSE RULE: if you don't explore a new tile you don't have to draw a encounter card. This works better if you are in a smallet group. Getting kill by mosters suck but its fun. Getting killed by cheap traps while you are stuck in combat just makes the game frustrating.

YES!! I played it a lot as a solitaire game, and enjoyed it very much. Matter of fact, when I filmed this video I was travelling for a conference, and played the game as a solitaire in my hotel room.

I recently picked this up with a gift card I got for XMAS. I already have Wrath of Ashardalon, but this looks to be even better. I'm now debating on whether or not to pick up Castle Ravenloft just to complete the set.

Never played D and D......but it seems like a grown up version of the HeroScape game series beloved by myself and my son. Scape features a wide variety of fully painted, highly detailed figures. And, of course, the ability to construct one's own terrain using the interlocking tiles. Hours and hours of father and son fun. Great review, btw. Cheers!

I see that as part of the challenge: be efficient and expedient in eliminating the monsters, or the traps will get you. Thematically it works too: the monsters know the dungeon and they are delaying you until the trap springs.

Since we got bored relatively easy, because we always won, we implemented a few house rules that give some advantages to the monsters, and my own home-made campaign system. The thing that i liked about L)D is that you can customize your game and add upgrades(I added doors, and a magic system, using magic cards), I highly recommend the game!

so when you play one of these scenarios, do you used your main character you created, or pick one of the included heroes? (sorry if i sound like a noob. i just want to get started on D&D) Also, is there a DM in these?

Superb review! I decided to buy a DnD board game after watching your WoA and CR review. Sadly there weren't much reviews about WoA back then, but from what I've seen and read i bought it. I only disagree with your opinion about catie-brie. She is a powerful character. in a 2 player game i am always with drizzt and my friend with catie. I tank the monster and she shoots from a distance. Her attack that deals damage to all the monsters on the board is a total destruction.

I roll for it myself. 1-15 draw a encounter, 16-20 no encounter. Keeps the difficulty, but still gives a chance. Maybe try 1-10 encounter, 11-20 nothing. :D Just removing the encounters all together really kills a large part of the games difficulty IMO. But, House Rules are house rules.

if you're comfortable with art and theme, I think it'd work. The mechanics are simple enough.

you don't need a DM to play this game, and you use a party of heroes selected from the heroes that come with the game.
