John Daker was a legend, unintentionally bringing joy to millions. Sadly he passed away in 2022.

I have listened to the "My name is Jon Daker" for Years! when I am needing a great giggle ☺. I was a lifelong professional vocalist, piano accompanist, and oboist. What a sweet community, probably just beginning to learn how to use a video camera for productions to share. Like you, I have played and sung in these delightfully awkward moments. Jon showed that he had studied some good vocal technique (his voice was very fluid and accurate, pitch wise) and was kindly standing in as a substitute with his repertoire of music and that Precious accompanist - so proud of her 55 years of piano teaching. There were possibly some nerves at play here, knowing this thing called a video camera was recording them. I doubt there was any rehearsal beforehand. When he went in to sing, he was on HER TURF! HER TEMPO! So John sang sloppy Andante (more like the Italians), but sweet pianist was Allegro/Accelerando! At the end, he FINALLY grabbed tempo and the LAST SHINING MOMENT when he sang "Pardon me, but in old Napoli - that's Amore" with a definitive RITARDANDO, which she ultimately followed 🙃and the show went on 😉

He's got a beautiful voice. His sense of humor shines through

It was a local cable show. Local cable systems used to equip a studio for local people to use and broadcast almost anything they wanted. Apparently this church had a weekly program, which was often the case.

Reva's policy was, "You mess with my intro, and I mess with yours."

I interpret the pause before his introduction differently. I think he was expecting her to start right away; she paused, so he decided to fill that pause with his introduction. He starts talking at pretty much the exact moment she started playing.

This is why I almost always sing with at least the lyrics, and most of the time with the sheet music… :-)

That song was written in 1739! She just found out about it now. lol

Nothing says a song from 1739 can’t be verpoplarnowdeyz! As you know… aging white ladies in small midwestern towns in the early 90s were always the best barometer for what’s poplarnowdeyz.

I think Reba picked the songs because she could play them briskly. The rest was Mr. Daker's problem. How did that get posted?
