I think that's something a lot of people got confused about. The other day my sister was talking about how water benders killed Zhao and I got surprised by that bc she watched the show recently, so ig what happened isn't that she forgot but that she never understood it when she saw it. My brother also heard it but he didn't seem to notice she said something wrong, ig that can be bc it's been long since he watched it or maybe bc he remembers how it was in the movie and confused it, since in the movie Zhao was in fact killed by benders. And I did see someone in the internet saying the same when I put the question on google to see what was the general pov of the fandom into this.

It's sad that some people still blame Korra for "killing off" the previous avatars. You can blame Unalaq, Vaatu or even the writers for making this decision, but definitely not Korra. I personally agree with this move, I think if they didn't kill of the previous avatars , people would have expected Aang to show up every time Korra was in trouble, which would have distracted from the tension in following seasons. Also Korra doesn't need the previous avatars for advice, she has living people like Tenzin, Lin, Katara and others that can help her.

There’s a comment from The Normies’ reaction video to this episode that describes the scene in the Fog Of Lost Souls perfectly: “That scene in the land of the lost souls revealed a lot of about their characters. The land of the lost is where people wander and relive their greatest failures. 1) Bumi has seen some shit and probably had PTSD. He probably lost his men in a brutal battle with literal cannibals. 2) Kya is afraid of being tied down so she ran away from her family and responsibilities. She felt guilty that she wasn’t there for them. 3) Tenzin was only so calm because he always felt like it was his responsibility to hold everything. It wasn’t until he was truly alone that he broke down.”

Every season in this show has a conclusion, that is true, however.. just because the story of this book is ending in the next episode doesn't mean that everything is going to be OK. This season left MASSIVE consequences on Korra and the world. So I do not recommend relying on the notion of "it's going to be all perfectly fixed in the end of the season". Every season with the exception of the first has huge consequences and that includes season 2.

Lol does it though? The major “consequence” that comes out of this Season isn’t even a bad thing, its just a random unforseen outcome that happens only in the 3rd season. The only really carryover in narrative between season’s is 3 to 4, thats it.
@ProfessorZoom21403 жыл бұрын
@@JasmineTeaEnjoyer Consequences can be good and bad. *Spoilers* 👇🏻 1. Korra loosing her connection to her previous lifes forever. 2. The spirit portals remain opened allowing spirits and humans to go freely in and out of the spirit world. 3. Harmonic convergence and the opened portals brought back the air benders. All of those are not enough consequences for you? And what do you mean by "the writers completely ignore this season"? Literally everything that happened after this was a direct result of the events of season 2. Zaheer's escaping prison, unalaq's connection to the red lotus, the new air benders, kuvira's spirit vine weapon. And I can go on and on.. This season was great.. don't pretend like it wasn't. 😎

Something some people are not clear on is that the spirit world is not a human afterlife, wish some specific exceptions. If you meditate into the spirit world and fail to return to your body and your body dies, you are trapped there forever. Iroh did this on purpose. With Zhao, it when he was dragged away, he was dragged into the spirit world and tossed into the fog of lost souls. Also, all previous avatars exist somewhere in the spirit world, if you can find them (Aang once had to, according to a canon webgame). After being severed from her previous lives, Korra could actually go find them physically and reconnect with them, but she doesn't realize she can.

Remember the conversation Raava had with Wan....neither can be completely destroyed....just overwhelmed for a time. It wasn't "all good" while Vaatu was locked away. His energy and influence extends beyond his body...just as Wan lamented in his dying moments....."even with Vaatu locked away, darkness still surrounds humanity". What Wan effectively did when he trapped Vaatu was merely change the terms of their fight....when they were rustling and tustling with each other in the physical world all those years ago. Vaatu remains equal to Raava.....but Raava doesn't need to physically grapple and fight with him to restrain him and keep him in check....instead, they BOTH work through new agents. Vaatu works through people and spirits as a whole....intangibly.....much like our own myths about evil as a constant influence in people. Raava works through an individual...the Avatar...as one person who experiences the most humanity can be by travelling the world, learning from mentors and teachers...making friends....and essentially acting as the other influence on people in a more physical way.

A lot of the bad consequences that happen in this season are because of some wrong choices Korra made early on, trusting the wrong people or outright helping them, even though she was being manipulated, it's still her responsibility more than ever because she is the avatar. If Aang could be blamed for disappearing for 100 years at age 12, then Korra could surely be blamed for this season when she was already older and had better guidance.

Well ravva wasn't destroyed and honestly I had no problem with decision to destroy the avatar cycle, the show wanted to distance themselves as much from the original series as possible and they wanted korra to have to be more self dependent on her future challenges and not have the advice from past avatars to help her, also its not like the concept of the avatar cycle was destroyed, its just that it was basically reset and korra became the new wan

@@patricktorres1292 all excuses. The show was already independent enough and had its own identity. If they wanted to make it even more distinguished they could've done it without this moment. I'm guessing you didn't grow up with ATLA. To longtime fans that felt like being spit in the face. They didn't mean to do that intentionally but that's what it felt like. And I say this despite being a big fan of TLOK.

I can't believe they destroyed the old avatar cycle. Avatars getting help from their past selves was one of the best parts of the franchise.
@JasoKing553 жыл бұрын
I see what the creators were trying to do but I definitely agree. I like Korra a lot, but an Avatar without the whole past-lives aspect just feels like any other random bender who just happens to be able to bend all 4 elements.
@resonant_logic75423 жыл бұрын
Avatars getting help from their past selves can still be one of the best parts of the franchise. The cycle wasn't destroyed, that only happens (as far as we know) when the avatar is killed in the avatar state. The cycle has just restarted. The next avatar will only have Korra as one of their past lives, and I feel like they can do a lot of cool storytelling with that dynamic. And who knows, if they continue down the line of avatars, maybe someone will find a way to recover all of the past lives. And I agree that it is a shame that Korra can no longer seek wisdom directly from past lives, but it definitely leads well into her struggles in later seasons.
@RyanBennis3 жыл бұрын
imo the whole aspect of the previous lives wasn't used very often and that's why *I* don't bother it's gone. If I believe correctly aang talked/interacted five times with roku (s1 e7-8, s1 e20 s2 e1, s3 e6 and s3 e19), Kyoshi twice (s2 e5 and s3 e19) and once to yang chen en Kyruk (or whatever his name is) in s3 e19. I have to admit it was a clever way to give the viewer information/explanation (especially s3 e6) but I don't think it's necesarry it's there. I once saw an insta post that if you look at atla s1 e3 there was one place for a statue left in the room and aang became that statue. Indicating that korra will start a new cycle, which she will do. Lastly I really like the fact that even though Korra didn't really use it much, that once her previous life were gone, she had to accept it. In s3 e1 she said that she was the first avatar who couldn't ask for advice from her past lives since Wan. It's a great life lesson. You don't realize how important something/someone is until you lose it (or take it for granted)
@racool9113 жыл бұрын
Yea but I'm sure the next Avatar should logically be able to contact Korra. And hey maybe they'll even bring back the past lives the same way Korra brought back the airbenders

Light cannot live without Darkness, they both cannot live without each other. Although UnaVaatu defeated Raava, she isn't completely gone. It's just that Darkness has taken over. Also why the heck would Azula be in the spirit world lmaoo, if you remember off ATLA S1, Zhao was taken by the huge spirit so that's why he's there. And yes, your guys reaction to UnaVaatu destroying the past Avatar's links to Raava was so accurate, I couldn't stop shutting my mouth in shock. But then again, this is the FIRST TIME that the Avatar has battled against someone with the same power level as well as during the most strenuous time in history, Harmonic Convergence, where the spiritual energy is increased 100x. Initially, you should have noticed that Korra was literally beating Vaatu, she almost sealed him away. It could've been so easy if it wasn't for Mako and Bolin not doing their job right, I am NOT going to lie. Korra's Avatar team failed her when she needed them most, now she had to go through the most hardest time in her life- having Raava stripped away from her and the past Avatar's spirits destroyed. I can't wait for you guys to react to the finale episode of S2, I hope you guys come to realize that Korra has so much raw talent and is such a powerhouse.

Season 2 isn't even that bad. Unaloq/Vaatu as the dark avatar should have had more time. What if season 2 ended on Korra losing her avatar connection while UnaVaatu escapes into the world to gather power, then season 3 continues from there. You can still introduce Zaheer and the Red Lotus, just as side characters. Just like how atla always had multiple threats going simultaneously.
@tigerwoods37293 жыл бұрын
if you ever played any the resident evil games, unalaq is dumb as a villain the same way some resident evil villains are, their plan is to sacrifice their own humanity and become a big giant horrible monster to destroy the world, and for what? what does unalaq personally gain from this deal? its really stupid, plus, a couple episodes ago when he just flat out said he wanted to become "a dark avatar", its just unbelievably cartoonish villainy from a series that has such well thought up and motivated villains, thats my biggest issue with season 2, i couldnt really care less that the connection to past avatars is lost lol
@Siegmeyer.3 жыл бұрын
Your RE comparison is pretty spot on, this season did feel overall like a video game. Like the villains were literally meant to be boss fights. Hell, the big bad guy is literally a "big bad guy" a giant monster/mecha fight like some final boss. Stupid decisions were made by multiple characters over the course of the whole season despite them all knowing better, and it felt more like they only happened to further the plot to its inevitable conclusion.
