Zaheer is basically an airbending/airnomad enthusiast, he knows their history, teachings, ideals, etc. It seems he has been studying them his whole life which explains why he is such a natural in the art of airbending. One of the best villains in the entire show.

Another way I see it, Zaheer as a non-bender was already deemed dangerous. So in all possibility, he could be a master martial artist in his own right, so good, that he didn't need bending to be dangerous in a fight. You give a man like that airbending abilities, you just make him even more dangerous. I don't see a master airbender in Zaheer, I see a master martial artist incorporating elements of airbending. Could just be me, but I see Zaheer rely more on his dodging and weaving techniques in combat more than his bending abilities at times.

(Spoiler warning in case!) Also, another thing to note, he mentions the RL were supposed to be Korra's elemental masters, if they successfully kidnapped her as a child, meaning he would've been her airbending teacher. Which backs up everything your saying, etc.

Doesn't matter if you study everything about a element you shouldn't have access to the entirety of it from the get go. Aang mastered air bending at a young age and he couldnt even do what Zaheer did. That's one of the many flaws of TLOK

@@kool4209 what are you talking about?😂😂 Zaheer is skilled but Aang at his young age was still far more skilled than Zaheer ever was. Aang showed us many times how him with only airbending was able to kick ass to multiple enemies with ease. Tenzin showed us aswell when he was kicking Zaheer's butt. How would you know either way? Kai has never studied anything of airbending and was still able to pick it up pretty fast, so it's safe to say that it makes sense Zaheer was so skilled at it since he has always been an airbending fanatic. The only thing Zaheer got over Aang is the flying technique but that is because Zaheer let go of his "earthly tether" something Aang never did but that still doesn't make Zaheer stronger since Aang still has far more training and experience. His opened mind and ability to rapidly adapt to any situation was also a big reason why he picked it up incredibly fast aswell as why he was such a dangerous villain. So I don't think there was any flaws in that part if you pay close attention to details.

Yangchen (who was an Air Nomad Avatar btw) in Last Airbender put it best: "Many great and wise Air Nomads have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it, because your sole duty is to the world" & "Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world."

@@foresightmystery9845 this is the case however I believe this to be more to do with the ideologies and more mental or spiritual aspects of that bending, an example of this is more modern earth bending is less stable and grounded and more free and flowing, the earth nation air benders were initially still able to bend despite the earth queens forces teaching them more in line with earth style movements

the reason why so many airbenders popped up so suddenly is because during the 100 year war, when sozin used the comet to wipe out all air nomads, he brought unbalance to the world. because of him, and up until korra fought unavaatu (unalaq x vaatu) the world was out of balance! in defeating unavaatu, korra brought balance back to the world, and that's why people got airbending out of the blue. this show is so subtle in showing and explaining these things, and i think it's such an epic reminder that although both shows are totally different from each other, they're still all the same. this book is seriously one of the best, and i'm so hype for your reactions!!!!!! zaheer is finally here

I saw a theory a while back that said the reason we only saw air benders pop up in the earth kingdom was because they’re descendants of air nomads that managed to get away from the fire nation raids. Since the water tribes are so isolated the only other option would be to take refuge in the earth kingdom

if you have the forms and movements of a bending style down you're half way there to being a good bender, another key element seems to be state of mind and inner drive, i think it's fair to say zaheer was working on all of that prior to actually gaining airbending, so once that did happen, he was primed to be pretty good at it

Korra grabbing Raiko by the chin mirrors how she approached Saikhan in "When Extremes Meet" after Mako, Bolin, and Asami were arrested. Bumi stopping the plate thrown by Meelo with airbending is similar to how Aang stopped a chicken leg thrown by King Bumi in "The King of Omashu". Jinora informs Meelo that the Air Nomads did not have a formal military, something which Aang first mentioned in "The Headband". Korra reminds Asami that she is not very good at driving, something she first mentioned in "Turning the Tides". Asami reveals to Korra the time she kissed Mako while the Avatar was away in "The Sting". In turn, Korra reveals to Asami when she kissed Mako behind her back during "The Spirit of Competition", though Asami was already made aware of the kiss in "Out of the Past". Zaheer using airbending to make his way down a mountain top is similar to how Aang did so in "The Southern Air Temple".

So Zaheer is voiced by Author and Musician Henry Rollins, famous for being singer of the Hardcore Punk group Black Flag. Without giving away too much this was a very great casting, Zaheer's philosophies aligns with what a radical, but intelligent Punk Rock symbol would come to believe. Genuinely my favorite antagonist in not only TLOK, but all of Avatar.

While Bumi is trying to airbend during dinner and first states that the napkin moved, there are two white balls of rice on his plate and two other food items that appear to be sushi. In the shot from Korra's back, however, there are three balls of rice on his plate and the sushi is gone. When Korra bows after purifying the spirit vines, her right fist is colored blue like her wristbands. When she turns to face the reporters, her fist is colored normally again. When a metalbending officer bends to open a fence gate for President Raiko, his bodyguards are wearing their black attire, but after Raiko walks away from Korra, his bodyguards are wearing their normal blue attire. When Zaheer tells the incarcerated White Lotus sentry to ration the bowl of rice, since the next shift change is three weeks away, the guard appears fearful, though he should not have been, considering one of the other guards is a metalbender and could have bent the doors open as soon as he woke up.

I also think Korra said she can't do it because he got airbending as a result of the energy shift during harmonic convergence; which essentially brought back balance to the world by restoring the air nation. If she goes ahead and takes it away from everyone who didn't ask to be a bender, who doesn't want airbending - the world would probably go back to the imbalance between the nations ^^
