Roger, your understanding of the series and Korra as an avatar is very refreshing and the difference in why these videos didn't do well. Bloodthirsty Roger was a welcome surprise for this series. Most of the structural issues really came from Nickelodeon not being clear about how long the show would last with the creative team. They made Korra as different as they could from Aang, which was a smart choice imo even at the cost in acceptance that decision came with. Glad Roger liked it more than the average viewer did.

I love that you enjoyed it, thank you so much for pushing through. I always will have a special place for ATLA in my heart. But, Korra hits home for growing up and dealing with even more complex feelings and frustrations I felt as a teen. Like Aang was confused and young and had to grow up quickly while Korra to me felt like sheltered and she felt ready but when it came to being outside it was nothing like she experienced once she got out into the world she saw just how much she still needed to learn and humble herself.

a common theory is that avatars can't fly like zaheer, the power of flight comes from detaching yourself from the world and the avatar is intrinsically attached to the world. Yangchen basically tells Aang this at the end of ATLA "Many Airbenders have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it because your sole duty is to the world", avatars are of course powerful enough to still fly through just raw power though, but the kind of effortless perpetual levitation that zaheer does seems like something avatars can't do.

One funny comment that always stood out to me was Toph saying "My girls never picked up metalbending all that well if you ask me." Lin and Su are two of the best metalbenders in the series. Kuviera has such great moments as an antagonist I wish we got more of her in the season. Toph is still MVP It may not be the strongest but this season was great I wish the series ended with book 3 tho. Korra as a sequel gets way too much unwarranted hate it’s very fun!

If Katara can nullify Hama’s bloodbending by controlling her own blood, the Korra won’t be able to crush Kuvira using her own armor. She’s in control of her armor, which is why she bends it as weapons.

Agreed, seasons 2/4 don’t hit the same and have some tropes I’m not a fan of. The lack of consistency in korra’s character really drags it down as well. 6/10 is what I always say, with season 3 being a solid 9/10 as a stand alone.

If only Korra figured out that there was still metal in her system three years earlier. It must have been hell living like that. Baatar Jr. is probably the Beifong family member that we saw the least, so I didn't feel anything about his betrayal. It's was so great to see Toph again. Too bad she didn't help with the final battle. It was sad to see Hiroshi's sacrifice as he was just reconciliating with Asami. I like the continuation in the comics, Turf Wars and Ruins of the Empire.

Thank you Roger for all 4 seasons of reactions! I still can’t believe how narrow-minded people are when it comes to Korra. ATLA will always be my favorite because I grew up with Aang, but I will go to my grave to defend season 3 of LOK as the best season of either series. For a series that was originally meant to be a 10 episode miniseries, then green-lit for 2 more seasons, then another season, and then to have their final season budget slashed, this show was incredibly well done. There’s definitely a few missteps along the way but I’ll take the lows to get the highs!

I think most people kind of agree with Books 1&3 being stronger than 2&4. I can respect liking Korra as a show a little more than ATLA and I agree that the show being more mature right from the beginning helped a lot with that. I still think ATLA was just more consistent as a show overall which is why people like it so much better.

This show it's my favorite too 💙 it's sooo satisfaying seeing korra bend metal like water back to kuvira! And her bending pure spirit energy equivalent to a nuclear bomb and creating a new spirit portal??? she's too iconic! And of course my favorite part, korra and asami being a couple korrasami was the blueprint for many queer characters in cartoons, but unfortunately they had to be subtle bc of nickelodeon 😒

I just like Korra more than ATLA. ATLA, despite what some people might claim, is not perfect. Korra isn't perfect either. But despite its flaws, I love Korra's characters the atmosphere and changes to the world, the unapologetic explorations of the older Avatar Gang (they were never perfect and they shouldn't BE perfect and they were kids, people change), the different villains and philosophies(even if theyre not the most in-depth look at them ever), and of course the queer rep is rad too. It's really a shame Nick treated the show the way they did. And while it's fine to dislike the show, some fans really act so childish in their hatred or flatout have problematic reasons for disliking it. I really enjoyrd these reactions, Roger! Thanks for giving the show a chance and I hope you had fun.

I think you just needed more emphasis on the fact that this is a first time reaction in the title, because prior to reading the descriptions, i thought this was a rewatch series lmao. I'm more of a casual RogerBase viewer, and i would have bet actual money on you being a person who had already seen these shows since they seem right up your alley. ATLA can pull in views for what is seemingly a rewatch series, Korra can't lol. I'm with you on having enjoyed Korra more overall than ATLA 🤝 Part of it is definitely bias for queer themes as a queer person, and I'm at peace with that. But one other part of it, I think, is that there's a greater sense of mystery with what's going to happen next, especially entering each new season, whereas in ATLA, from episode 8 & on, the end destination is sent: Aang will master 3 elements then face the Fire Lord, and you can pretty safely assume he's going to win. I don't at all think this is in any way a bad or negative thing about ATLA, it's purely a difference in style/genre. ATLA is kinda like an epic, both in a literary sense and as in EPIC MASTERPIECE, a work of art - some rich history that helps flavor the mystery that is Korra - and with her introduction, the mystery the show presents is: how does this brash, headstrong firecracker, this ridiculously talented, endlessly endearing, sweet summer child fill Aang's shoes? How does she become "The Legend of Korra"? And the show gives many answers to that, and leaves it up to you to decide at what point she becomes "the Legend" that she so obviously is right from the very start: "I'M THE AVATAR, YOU'VE GOTTA DEAL WITH IT!!!!"

The way I always describe Korra against ATLA is that the highs are higher, but the lows are lower. And there are all sorts of behind the scenes reasons for why that is or who’s to blame. But I appreciate both stories for what they are

Man this was a fun watch, through all of the parts. I even went back and watched your OG Avatar reacts! I would say, Steven Universe is very underated as a react request, but has amazing characters, with great growth and arcs. The lore is way deeper and more mature than you'd think. Lots of people don't give it a fair chance and rarely do they ever survive passed book 2 which is a damn shame because Zaheer is a top tier character that they're missing out on. I personally still favor the original ATLA but if ATLA is a 10/10, Korra is like a 8.5-9. Excellent show

Oddly enough, I suppose it is just your specific audience that doesn't take well to LoK, because I've seen smaller channels with less average view counts get much higher views on LoK reactions than yours, and thats with almost every episode singled out

After multiple rewatches of both ATLA and LOK, over many years, I have finally come to the conclusion that Korra is indeed the better show. For the longest time I used to rate Avatar a 9/10 and Korra an 8/10 because I thought Korra had some flaws and Avatar was near perfect. But after so many rewatches, I have picked up on many more of Avatar's flaws so it doesn't feel as perfect anymore. And Korra's topics are ultimately more interesting and I genuinely enjoy rewatching it more. I am glad to see you agree on a first watch through.

S1 and 3 are definitely the standouts. 2 is better on rewatches but leaves people uneasy with the state of the Avatar legacy in flux and S4 has some good character development but not as engaging of a plot, especially coming after S3's situation. Despite the lower views on these its good that you got to experience the show and these have been a fun watch. Hope you continue watching as a fan when the new series drops in the future.
