People like to harp on the love triangle stuff, and sometimes for good reason, but I just love that Korra immediately put her feelings for Mako aside and told him to focus on Asami.

By the way, earthbenders can't actually bend the Metal itself, just the impurities of earth within it, as we saw in the first episode where Toph invented it, where you can see the bits of earth within the metal cage that shes bending. Platinum cant be bent because its more refined than the old iron/steel slag that the Fire Nation and world had been using up to that point.

14:10 Actually both are natural reactions for an innocent person. Some handle it calmy because they know they are in the right and some become defensive because they are angered by the false accusation. Just as guilty people will act calm because they think they need to in order to avoid prosecution and act angered because they are confronted with the fact that they are guilty.

For some reason I get really defensive and even scared and start crying and stuttering when I have to tell the truth or when I think I should, but I can lie with the biggest pokerface on Earth. So I started just lying because no one believes me when I do tell the truth. If I lie slightly people then believe me so there's less conflict and life is good.

Originally all your speculation about Asami was going to be correct. They initially planned for Asami to join her father. But the writers found they enjoyed her character so much they changed their minds and kept her good.

I always love reactions to this episode because it's where Asami jumps from the one everyone is suspicious of to fan favorite. I think I've only seen one reaction series where they weren't suspicious of Asami, lol. And maybe it was only because of lack of time, but I think the creators not changing her entrance even after changing their plans for her charactor works in favor of the story. Like you said, we all tend to judge books by their covers; it adds to the general tension of the episode and especially the final scene where she makes her choice. When this first aired, I remember everyone getting frustrated with Mako for not believing Korra and I understand that frustration but I think, in this moment, his reaction was understandable. Even if his accusation of Korra being jealous was harsh, you can see how he got to that idea. Also, he deserves props for sticking by Asami and Hiroshi initially, and he did apologize to Korra. It's clear he was just trying to be a good and supportive boyfriend for Asami in a difficult time. At least, in this moment he was.

If someone beautiful runs into me and offers to take me to dinner as an apology, I'm not going to think she's evil, I'm going to think I'm incredibly lucky.

I think there's a clear parallel in this episode. Korra is a tom boy and doesn't have the graces you would expect of someone of her title. She was brought up isolated from everyone. Asami is very clearly put together, which makes sense, because she likely had to be in those performative high-social activities all the time. Great character development on these kids.

18:18 Tenzin is an interesting character to me but he doesnt usually stand out. Later episodes will elaborate on him better then i can do i will. I will say i like how stoic he tries to be and be all high and mighty and be all responsibility but then he gets excited like a little kid about things he was just being upset about because its irresponsible. Almost as if the Tenzin he wants to be is being pushed to the wayside to be the Tenzin he thinks he needs to be for Republic city and his kids and Korra (Example being the first Bending tournament)

just to add to that ending bit. it’s also who he feels he has to be for his culture. he is the Sole Airbending Adult right now and has to ensure the continuation of air lineage through his kids as well. so it’s a lot of pressure he puts on himself

I thought I was the only one that got that kind of vibe from some of the B1 fights. I remember thinking for this fight in particular, "Why is this music and lighting so overbearing and depressing sounding? It's like someone is about to die or something."

OK this is a good time to say this without spoiling anything. Asami WAS planned to be a bad guy in the beginning sent by her father to spy on Korra, which she'd have done with first getting close with Mako, etc. Then the writers loved her character very much and changed that but it seems that some of the early stuff remained (like how she meets Mako for instance) which is why you and many others were suspicious of her in the beginning. Personally I think they should've stuck with Asami being initially a bad guy and made her change her path later on after befriending Korra and her team. That'd have worked better with certain important story elements later on as well.

Earthbenders don't bend metal guys, they bend the impurities IN the metal. And by this point it seems they've gotten pretty good at purifying extremely large amounts of platinum (extremely rare on earth, but seemingly much more abundant in the Avatar-verse) to ensure even the best metalbenders can't possibly do anything about any machines made of such material (Toph was mostly seen bending iron and steel, which contain large amounts of carbon). Those mech suits may look clunky, but they've effectively proof against most forms of bending. We've seen plenty of times when non-benders could fight against benders and do quite well. Look at Sokka, Suki, Ty Lee, Mai, Jet, Piandao, the Yu Yan archers, etc. In fact, this should have been another clue as to where Asami would end up; look at the team composition, does it seem familiar? We have an Avatar, a firebender, an earthbender, 2 team pets... but we needed our badass-normal non-bender! Clue was there all along.

Ok it’s safe to talk about it now, but just like Iroh, Asami was originally supposed to be a villain, so in a way you two were right to be skeptical. You can definitely tell she was originally meant to be one before the idea got scrapped.

The cabbage merchants strenght must have vained with his decendant(s) as he would have beaten theese fools easily. Hiroshi unlike Amon who so far has only taken the bending of actual criminals and a team of jackasses witch we see for them is still overkill beyond bombing the stadium and assulting Korra Amon has been more on the down low while Hiroshi has a more obvious hatred for benders. Man was about to get found out so he just decided to go full mask off with the giant banners since it was all a trap. Also its pretty funny that so far Makos and Bolins, Amons alledgedly and Asamis loved ones have all been killed by fire benders. Guess the old ways die hard. Also never really tought about it but how horrible must Mako feel about seeing his parents cut down by someone with the same bending as him. Korra still kinda taking Ls this far into the season. Lets hope this doesent become a theme.

I highly recommend watching The Dragon Prince sometime! It's a fantasy series about tensions between the humans and elves/dragons/magical creatures of a land called Xadia. It's a great show with good writing, themes such as forgiveness, some cool characters, and some comedy here and there. It can also get a bit dark. Also, one of the creators was the head writer for "Avatar: The Last Airbender," and at least 2 voice actors from ATLA are in the show as well! It currently has 7 seasons with 9 episodes each. If you like supplementary content, there are also a bunch of side stories on the official website and some graphic novels with extra lore. (They aren't necessary to understand the show if you can't and/or don't want to read them.) I would say more, but I'm not the best at describing things, and I don't want to spoil anything. You should check it out! I haven't seen that many people react to it.
