Got to skate with Matt Beach a lot in the 90's when he was riding for ADIDAS...was always doing something with mad pop and hella steez...he would come to our skate park alot and see him in the streets skating Portland...he was always super chill and approachable...hope to see a Matt resurgence...

Matt came to our City here in Ireland (Waterford) in 2003; he was part of a born-again Christian group that brought people like Jamie Thomas and others over to Ireland on strange conversion missions. They probably didn't take into consideration the long and dark history of the church in Ireland at the time; none of us had any interest in the religious side of what Matt's Born Again friends were doing; we were 13/14-year-old skaters and just wanted to hang out with this American pro which came out of nowhere. The religious group he was with would try to preach to us at skate spots and buy us pizza; it was a bizarre enough situation. We mostly ignored what they had to say and stuck around to hang out and watch him skate. I have so much footage of him ripping crusty prefab ramps and old spots in our City. Being from a small city in Ireland, we had never seen such a level of skateboarding; Matt was in our town for about a week. I got a Firm board and a stack of stickers from him at the time and still have them in storage; he was the most chill guy ever; even though he was over with a born-again Christian group, he never mentioned any of it himself. He mostly remained quiet and just wanted to skate with us and when he did something it blew our minds; it was such a surreal experience, especially for a young group of skaters from Ireland who looked up to and adored the US scene at the time, it gave us a first hand insight into what a professional from the US was capable of at that time. Incredible memories looking back on them! After that encounter, I've always been rooting for him ever since. He is easily one of the most underrated, effortless skaters of our time; it was cool to go back and watch his older footage and learn about his story; cheers for making this! Sorry for the mega story!

Thanks for sharing this cool story I've always looked up to Christian pro skaters like Matt Beach were there any other pro skaters or amateurs in that Christian group besides Matt and Jamie that I've heard of?

I seen him!! Full Matt Beach mode in 2000 I think. Slam City Jam. He's great on film but to see him skate in person was different. I never saw Tom Penny but Matt has to be the next best thing. Best kfs I've ever seen in person.

I know this looks normal seeing adidas on feet, but you gotta understand. Matt was wearing Adidas consistently before the skateboarding program existed, I assume he was buying them. Whenever I saw adidas and skateboarding I thought of Matt Beach. He should be grandfathered onto the time for how early he was promoting their brand.

Really? I find that hard to believe considering the deep connections he has in oregon. I think Matt was just never really into living as a pro skater. Tony hawk called him the “axel rose” of skateboarding, so so talented but never wanted to go on tour. True story., Also I grew up competing along side him in oasa, we both got first in oregon for our divisions every year 😊

@@continueeducation7277 Yeah from interviews I read of Matt it seemed he never wanted to be known or a famous pro skater, he just purely loved skateboarding and thats all he wanted to do, that with some life events and pressure from people around him influenced his decision of staying pro or getting a regular job.
