Hello everyone! In this video, I show you how to setup and play the game The Legend of the Cherry Tree that Blossoms every Ten Years. It's a mouth full to say that's for sure! However the game itself is relatively easy to play.
Each player takes turns pulling petals from a bag. After each pull, they must check if the have passed, or failed. You fail if you pull 3 of the same color from the bag, or if you have 5 different colors showing. There are a total of 6 colors, with black being "wild".
If you fail, you put back any black petals you've drawn, and select 2 petals to keep. You place them in the front of your player board.
If you have not failed, then you can draw again. The only rules with drawing is this:
1. You MUST draw 1 petal.
2. You can draw a max of 3 times.
3. You cannot collect more than 8 petals.
If you draw from the bag, and do not fail, you can quit drawing. If you succeed, then you check your colors and numbers to see if you have activated any of the mastery cards. You activate one if you do, and only one if you can choose multiple. You then choose a color, and place it BEHIND your board to be hidden from others. As you're taking a color, you could take up to 2 petals. The rest of the petals go in front.
And that's it! players take turns until all petals have been drawn from the bag.
As for the masteries, there are 3 different options, each with 2 sides. You will need to check the video for what they do, but the outcomes your looking for are as follows:
1. A B C D. 4 different colored petals. Again, 5 colors will make you fail.
2. AA BB. 2 pairs of colored petals.
3. 6 petals drawn. It can be any color as long as you do not fail the collection.
For scoring, each color in front of the players board counts itself and based on how many you have gives you various points. The petals BEHIND your board are put into 2 groups: Warm and cool colors. The person with the most of each group gets the first player points, then second, ect. Black petals count as wild both in front and in back of the board, while whites are only wild behind the board.
That's the game! It's a very quick and fun game and we enjoy to mainly play it either between games that are a bit more strategic, or just play a few rounds to push our luck in it. It's a very quick game, and is usually under 20 minutes for a playthrough.
