No he doesn’t. he starts playing “Shiritori” with Piccolo. The last word he used ends with “ん”. However due to the fact no word in Japanese starts with that syllable that means Piccolo is unable to win.

If this is the scene I'm thinking of, it's actually a Japanese game, where you have to say a series of words, where each starts with the syllable at the end of the previous. You lose when you pick a word that ends with "n". So the lastword Gohan says is "Lion", then it's Piccolo's turn. Not being a Japanese Kindergarten student, Piccolo don't give a cluck.

Fun fact, saiyan (in japanese "saiyajin") is "yasai" but reversed, which means "vegetables", and tuffle (in japanese "tsufurujin") is "furutsu", also reversed, which means "fruits".

So something to keep an eye on and look out for, Akira toriyama did forget a lot of his own lore. There are going to be missing bits, or "wait I thought this was already established lore" bits, but Akira kept forgetting things and this is the godfather of shonen anime in america. This was the first largest anime series in western america and dispersed throughout english speaking countries. This was all hand-drawn, so there's going to be mistakes and errors. Translation issues were massive in this show.

Canon is nonsense for this franchise. Damn near everytime most things are explained they'll be some change made later. Maybe details are added, maybe new details change what was before, maybe it's flat out different. If anything, it's amazing there's as much of a continuity at all.

hey kinda still close to reality if you think about Dragon Ball Super. Suzy don't read the rest here:..... don't I tell you..... ok ( this protector could be Lord Berus or Whis. they were the ones who ordered Freeza to destroy it and maybe Freeza was supposed to use a meteor but destroyed it himself. so not so farfetched and explanation we know that King Kai used to sleep a lot and missed when that happened so he could probably just not be in the loop. for plot reasons obviously)

That meteor scene really ruined the upcoming info dump, and it ends up confusing so many people. At least one positive thing about Kai is they cut out contradictions and plot holes but I know she's sticking with DBZ which is fine, but she'll be confused.

For filler, it isn't too bad. Aside from the meteor storm bit, the rest fits in pretty well with canon. The Tuffles is a good backstory showing the Saiyans are violent savages who started the war for fun, and strong enough to destroy enemies who have space age technology. The Arcosans giving the Saiyans technology is also pretty consistent with a certain icy little space dictator. They could just be one of the many species under his Empire and the ones that recruited them.

Spoilers Suzy DBZ filler is canon and explain why king kai said that because he wanted Goku to avoid freiza. Some of part of filler later taken in manga. The insect gregori is designed and put by toriyama for anime despite him not being in manga. Plus this explain the saiyan nature and the gave the sight of how Saiyan are running business.

That meteor story was filler and it never happened, it's an anime contradiction plot hole. A lot of fans were upset over this because it was an error, and later in the episodes they fix the continuity and explain what happened (The canon way) but if you don't know this you'll be confused as to by King Kai is one thing and someone else says something different. We were all confused when this happened. It's one of the reasons people like DBZ Kai because it not only cuts out fillers, but contradictionary plot holes, but I understand you're sticking with DBZ so just understand the meteor part isn't true, it's a plot hole.

Oh, I forgot that this was the "Kay-o-Ken." translation. Or rather mistranslation. It's actually, "Kai-oh-ken." which roughly translates to God's technique. (Not Japanese, or speak it, so that's not really the right translation either, but it's closer than Kay-oh-Ken.)

Putting it bluntly, the Saiyans were not poor per se, but they are quite Neanderthalic. In fact, they did not evolve further than making hide huts and clothes before coming to Planet Vegeta (yes Planet Vegeta was not their home planet).

I'm so glad you mentioned this, because when I first saw Dragon Ball Z, I had the exact same opinion, even stronger than you about the pacing. I felt that Dragon Ball Z is just too slow. At certain parts it drags for way too long. With the original Dragon Ball, I never felt like that. Even when I rewatched it recently. That's one of the main reason I still like Dragon Ball more than Z.

The pacing issue with Z is due to the show caught up to the manga. As they just can't put the show on pause, they needed to slow it down by making stuff up in the form of filler so the manga can get ahead again. This was not the first anime this happened to and certainly wasn't the last. Ep 9-10 never happened in manga Ep 11 Vegeta and Nappa going to Arlia never happened Ep. 12-16 never happened in manga. I believe in total, 40 entire episodes of DBZ never happened in the manga, and an additional 9 that was a mix of official and made up. DBZ Kai was done to fix this.

Un addition to these about 40 filler episodes, the pacing of canon ones was slower too. In total if you add fillers + slow pacing, it's almost twice slower than Kai. However kai is censored and does not have the legendary bgms dragon ball and dragon ball z have. So despite the pacing problem with z, it might be the best option for someone who just finished og.

It's one of the reasons to watch Kai if pacing matters to you, I understand the downfalls Kai might have, but it becomes a pick your poising, both options have their pros and cons. They should have just done a Kai version where it still resembled DBZ and same voice actors.
