Fun fact: a lot of Grog’s big burp sounds are made by Laura Bailey (Vex) who is married to Travis Willingham (Grog). I think some are also done by Marisha Ray (Keyleth) 😂

Time for the Briarwoods arc! Also, as a nice little easter egg in this episode, if you look at the boulder that almost squashed Vax in the dragon fight, it's actually shaped like a D20 (a 20 sided die) like the ones used in D&D. You can also see in the dragon's hoard some dice trays with jewels in the shapes of different kinds of dice.

For those that hadn't noticed, our Dragon was none other than David Tennant. Brimscythe's appearance is probably because we only ever saw him in the dark, he is blue scaled. As others have said, the colour of the dragon related to the element they attack with: Blue is Lightning, Red is Fire, etc. They don't change with age, but their magic abilities get stronger over the centuries. Troll dick is an Easter egg for the tabletop game - for no particular reason Vox Machina kept a trophy from their first troll kill ...... The animators are long time fans of the show, there's a lot of visual nods. Gilmore's Glorious Goods had a heap of them everywhere.

2:01 Fun fact: those two npcs who die by falling are voiced by Matt Mercer (Critical Role's DM who voiced _everyone_ who wasn't the party in the game) and Marisha Ray, Keyleth's player/voice actor and also Matt's wife. The two of them (and the rest of the main cast) show up all over the world as background voices (since that's what a lot of them started out doing in the industry), and usually together.

If you guys didn't know dragons in dungeons & dragons are highly intelligent creatures with such long lifespans and sense they are capable of polymorphing into other things and it's actually not too uncommon for a dragon to live almost an entire human life time living hidden as a human

Of *course* it was the one voiced by David Tennant! Bigby's Hand is trademarked, so it's Scanlan's Hand now. (Plenty of little changes throughout the show are due to that.) I think Grog's killing blow involved a different dragon, but it's cool that we get to see it here. Whenever someone reduces the big bad to 0 hit points, the player gets to describe how they do it; hence Matt's famous phrase, "How do you want to do this?" Well, now that's done, it's time for the story arc that really put the Critical Role livestream on the map...

Yep, Vax slicing down its neck was how the dramatic kill originally played out. Theyve swapped it to Grog here, and given his later dragon kill to someone else. Vax will get his chance in season 3

Yeah, it was Umbrasyl that Grog slew in the campaign the way he killed Brimscythe in the show. In the campaign, Brimscythe died to the move Vax made on him here. And Umbrasyl in the show went down to what took out that Pit Devil much later in the story, which doesn't seem will be depicted in the show.

Ooooh! Did you see that five headed dragon floor? I bet that's a portrait of Tiamat - the queen and Progenitor of all chromatic dragons - the five heads, the different colors - definitely Tiamat. She is god-level powerful and practically immortal.

Crashcourse on DnD Dragons: There's good (metallic) Dragons: Brass (Fire and Sleep breath weapons) Bronze (Lightning and Repulsion breath weaopns) Copper (Acid and Slowing breath weapons) Gold (Fire and Weakening breath weapons) Silver (Cold and Paralyzing breath weapons) Evil (chromatic) Dragons: Blue (Lightning breath weapon) Red (Fire breath weapon) Green (Poision breath weapon) Black (Acid breath weapon) White (Cold breath weapon) (and a bunch of neutral ones, depending on what sourcebooks you're using) Generally Dragons live for a very long time and get bigger and more powerful the older they get. They start off as Wyrmlings, then you get Young, Adult and Ancient. Brimscythe was an Adult Blue Dragon, but on the younger end of Adult, so about 100, maybe 200 years old. Nothing to be trifled with, but not quite as bad as it gets, when it comes to Dragons.

David Tennant is awesome as General Krieg. Tony Hale (Buster from Arrested Development) plays the suspicious looking council member that Krieg kills. I love how Vox Machina doesn't take the easy, cartoon way out for danger. Anybody can die, sometimes the heroes don't save the innocent bystander. Sometimes the bad guy is winning. Can't wait for you to see all the little relationships develop between characters as their backstories come out. Grog the barbarian uses his Rage ability to enhance his strength and durability. Travis Willingham, the player and voice actor for Grog, is famous for saying "i would like to rage" to signal when he used it. What a polite barbarian lol Pro tip- keep tissues handy. There will be crying. oh, and also watch for doors... they truly are the real Big Bad Evil Guy

Dragons in D&D are classified by color, the broadest groups are Metalic, Chromatic, and sometimes Gem. Metalic dragons (gold, bronze, copper, silver & brass) are generally considered good but they don't always see things the way people do. Chromatic dragons (Red, white black, blue, & green) are generally evil, selfish, have no more respect for sentient lives than we do insects. Gem (sapphire, topaz, emerald, amethyst) are more rare and are neutral and don't get involved in the affairs of people much. Each type af dragon has a breath weapon. TN this episode Brymscythe a blue dragon breathed lightening, red/gold/brass dragons - fire, black/copper - acid, white/silver - cold/ice, green - poison and bronze dragons also breathe lightening. As dragons age, they grow more powerful this was an adult.

I'd say it's less "endless funds" like they can spend as much of the realm's gold as they need for supplies. It's more endless job offers. I mean when Emperor Uriel Tal'dorei III says they're the protectors of the realm people listen. More job offers means more gold, more parades and parties held in their honor, and of course more fame. That continues the cycle until either they get into trouble and lose that status or they die. Of course dying still leaves them popular because they'd be remembered as brave noble heroes who stood up for what's right

In DnD, dragons colors determine their breath weapon and, to some extent, their personality. Also, there are 2 classes of dragon, Prismatic and Metalic. Generally, the prismatic (color) dragons are evil, while the metalic dragons are good. Blue/Bronze=Lightning White/Silver=Ice Green=Poison Red/gold/brass=Fire Black/Copper=Acid.

Asking about paying back with interest isn't really an option with most shop keepers. These individuals are treated in game like a real person would, so they have to make a living. Credit just isn't a thing. If you don't have the coin, you don't get the item. The book about dragons hid the answer in plain sight. "Gorge" is also French for neck. Thus "in the neck, where the two rivers meet." And yeah, Uriel gave them a small fortified mansion. Probably worth more than all of them made in a year.

Fortunate to Tal Dorei, the council members do not actually have the ability to make any decisions without the sovereign's approval. They are there to provide their knowledge and expertise for the sovereign to use. Plus, Krieg's position covers war and national security. I don't blame them for wanting a quick-fix replacement when the just faced a dragon. Giving these idiots a seat in the government after one adventure doesn't seem so nuts afterall.

My personal guess is that they serve to fill the "Master of War" position since Krieg died. This would put them at most at the same level as the other counsel members though split 7/8 ways. Either way, be thankful that even normal council members can't enforce anything without the Sovereign's approval
