As a diehard Zelda fan with fond 80s memories of playing Zelda 1, watching this wad great. Every time you encountered a new enemy, it was cheerfully saying its name, and what's important about it. It was cool to seevyou improve with the gear upgrades. If you haf nabbed the White Sword, you might've killed the Wizzrobes faster. Watching this was so much fun. A lot of those enemies don't usually appear in dungeons, so it's neat to see them supporting each other, and using the room terrain to slow you down. Thank you very much for playing this for us! This is a great romhack: I usually don't play any roguelikes, but this might be the exception. It surely is a bit repetitive, the background is always the same color too: I'd recommend to play this in short sittings and just use save states to resume your progress the following time. Also, Ryu, I almost tore my hair off when you didn't buy the sword upgrade... No wonder the blue wizards took a million hits, you still had the wooden sword 😂 The blue ring, who turns you white, doubles your defense but does nothing to your attack
@christophersavignon41912 жыл бұрын
No. Just no. Even among repetitive roguelikes, this is bottom tier. And it's a horrible hack compared to every other hack I have seen. If you want to get into roguelikes, I'd suggest something like Hades, which you can play for hours on end without it getting stale.
@OttoBittoSplatoon2 жыл бұрын

@christophersavignon41912 жыл бұрын
@@OttoBittoSplatoon Well, can't argue with that. Nostalgia is a strong factor in this age where almost everything is an inferior copycat, spinoff, or reboot of the classics. I find myself playing far more old games than new ones. I'm not a great fan of repetitive roguelikes myself, but Hades was one of the few where you keep unlocking content and have interesting character interactions, which takes the edge off the repetition and covers the lack of level design that plagues most roguelikes. Frankly, most of the time "roguelike" is just code for "I/we can't be bothered to put effort into level design and storytelling". It's one of the red flags I've learned to watch for, along with yellow flags like "metroidvania", "user generated content", and a few others.

You're probably gonna want to do a Debunking the Difficulty on at least the Second Quest of the original LOZ, Ryu, if not the full game after this, especially after skipping the sword upgrade, if only to give yourself a refresher on vanilla LOZ. Its difficulty is basically "how well can you react to nonsense you don't understand until you understand it."
@bryantnonya87042 жыл бұрын
What they need to do is just randomize the dungeon layout but keep the original game format intact. Make it like Diablo where the dungeons are located in the same place but the layout is procedurally randomized so you can keep replaying the game but have a different experience every time... Alternatively maybe they could have the full game intact but allow you to play extra randomized dungeons after you defeat the boss but I think having some familiarity overall with what's going on will keep the player engaged and motivated to see everything that was added...
