Who needs a therapist when you can have a friend who listens? And that, right there, is the reason why so many people cannot break out of because depressed people just wanted to be heard and understood. They bottle up their emotions thinking no one can hear them, and it is slowly killing them from the inside. Humans are social beings, we need to be around each other, otherwise we are dead from the inside. Social medias and medias in general are killing us and we don't know it if you really pay attention. There was a time where people would go outside and talk to each other like any normal people, but because we are behind a screen all the time, we can only express it in words instead of physical contact.

I honestly feel like the saddest part of this whole thing begins at 5:24 The Happy Mask Man knows Link. Truly knows him. Knows everything he has done and accomplished. Knows every damn sacrifice Link’s made for others, and most likely knows that Link was never truly thanked for it all. He is probably the only one who knows about what he’s done for Termina. The only one who shares the same memories and knowledge of it. When Link answers his question and mentions that he’s there to return something, I think the Happy Mask Man knows that Link would seal his fate as the Tragic Hero. He knows that Link fought to help others, even after their deaths…. And he knows that the same would occur for Link. That the only way to find true healing, would be after his own death once his descendant comes to him to learn the ways of the sword. His descendant would be the one to heal him, just like he healed those from the masks he borrowed courage from…… That to me is incredibly sad. Cause the Happy Mask Man obviously cared for Link’s well-being. Even if it was only a little.

He needs some time alone to regather his Courageous Mind and body to Train and become the Hero Shade, since he is Not Needed with PURPOSE, HE TAKES HIS NEW PURPOSE TO BE ABLE TO PASS HIS TRAINING AND SKILLS TO HIS NEXT ANCESTOR, AFTER GETTING MARRIED AND HAVING A FAMILY THAT HE SO DEARLY MISSES, HE WANTS TO BE WITH HIS TRUE LOVE ZELDA, BUT KNOWS THAT CANNOT HAPPEN, BECAUSE HE WOULD PUT HIS FAMILY IN DANGER SINCE HE IS THE INCARNATION OF THE LEGENDARY HERO!!!!

I really love how Link eventually just reaches his breaking point, OOT Link has been through so much... Just imagine being a seven year old and having to fight gigantic spiders, parasites, skeletons and lizards and carry your whole nation just for you to realize that you’ve suddenly aged 10 years that you will never get back and all of your efforts have been in vain because Hyrule is in chaos, and despite having 17 years physically, on the inside you’re just a seven year old who has to destroy evil itself, and despite getting those 10 years back, it doesn’t really matters because you loose your best friend anyways and you accidentally get involved in the apocalypse of another world, and you could’ve just ignored that world, but you knew that you wouldn’t be able to live with it, so you have to face even deadlier monsters, see dozens of your friends either die of suffer and despite the fact that you end up saving everyone, those mental scars are permanent... I honestly don’t know what’s more tragic, OOT or BOTW... On BOTW, Link is born in a family of royal knights, and we see Zelda mention in one of the memories that Link didn’t have a choice, he couldn’t choose what he was gonna be, he HAD to be a Hyrule knight, so WITH FOUR YEARS he begins training to match fully grown and experienced knights, we can see on mipha’s diary that Link has scars all over his body and is constantly hurting himself because of how much stress the training puts on his body, that just keeps on happening for 13 years until he’s selected to be Zelda’s personal guard, so he constantly heavily wounds himself to protect Zelda, but that is nothing compared to what happens next... Ganon arrives and Link almost kills himself trying to protect Zelda, his friends? Gone. His family? Dead. his girlfriend? Torn apart. He was quite literally seeing every single thing he loved getting obliterated. So he falls in a coma, and 100 years later, despite having no memories whatsoever, he is tasked with saving a kingdom he doesn’t remembers, eventually he starts remembering some things but that just adds to the pain because you know those people are dead, and he can’t even cry because he was trained to not show any weakness, he was trained to look like someone strong and confident...while on the inside, there’s just an infinite amount of pain and suffering that he can’t release because of how he was trained...

Wild was the one who was remembered by his failure to defeat Ganon the first time, Time wasn’t even remembered at all as his heroic acts were in a different time from his own. Time only had one friend while Wild had many, but both lost their friends and family. Wild can’t even remember what they look like for most of the game. It’s hard to say which Link had it worse, but they’ve both been through a lot.

The emotions in this chapter are intense. The argument between Zelda and Impa was intense. It's clear that Zelda blames herself for the trauma Link endured and doesn't want him to fight again. But Impa is not blind to her emotions and knows that Link wants to protect Hyrule. The scene with the Happy Mask Salesman is great. Granted, his design looks too realistic compared to his previous appearance, but his conversation about masks and happiness was touching. It's nice to see a character who knows about Link's depression and encourages him to find happiness. The Song of Healing and Oath of Order being played is a good choice of music. Link's encounter with Saria was the highlight of the video. You can see Link releasing seven years of grief for all the trauma that he endured. It's heartbreaking how Link tries to avoid the questions by lying, but then he's forced to choose between deprecation or venting. Saria cheering up Link is the moment where Link begins his true journey to heal. I am also happy that the Fairy Ocarina survived. It's a happy detail since it was replaced by the Ocarina of Time with no reason. The scene with Sheik was great. Her emotional range increased a lot in this chapter. The nod to the Sakura and Sasuke scene was great when Link reveals to Sheik that he knows that she's Zelda. You can see how much Zelda cares about Link and wants him to be safe.
@vii4083 жыл бұрын
when you really think about it, Link was only ten years old when he was tasked with saving Hyrule. He learned he wasn't kokiri that he was never meant to be in the forest. He learned he was an orphan. He watched the guardian of their world (the forest), the deku tree die. He was tasked by Zelda to save Hyrule and by doing so caused a hellish destruction of Hyrule instead. He aged 7 years only to return to a nightmare of Hyrule. He wanted to see Saria again, he instead only found her spirit after she had died. He wanted to see Darunia again, he did find him only to watch as he leave to die in battle against volvagia. He wanted to see Ruto again, he saw her briefly only for her to die and become a sage as well. He might have looked at Impa as a maternal figure, she ended up dying and becoming a sage. He fought against ganondorf's evils! liberated an entire Kingdom and saved countless lives. but here is the thing, who knows how much time it actually took him? With the use of the master sword he would have to travel back across time to see it in harmony and then return to the future to its desolation. it could have taken Link years to save Hyrule. but we must remember he was only 10 years old when he started this journey, however at the time of its completion he might have been much older mentally, not only in being forced to mature due to the things he witnessed and fought against but also how much time it took him to accomplish this task. the worst part is that the only one who could understand what he was going through was Navi, and she is no longer with him. he has seen horrors of the world and fought against them, most likely nearly dying over and over again. he wasn't alone in those times, Navi was with him. but now he is truly alone. No one could ever understand what he has gone through not to mention the events of Majora's mask. it's heartbreaking when you remember he was only 10.
@samydeoliveira56773 жыл бұрын
Not to discredit the message as a whole, but I want to correct something. The game doesn't clarify how the sages ended up... as sages. Darunia's case is peculiar, I must admit, but nothing really proves that they died. Despite this, the fact that they seem disconnected from the real world could be felt like a loss for Link :)

If you think about it, link's journey through termina represented the stages of grief of when he lost navi. When you look at all the temples, you see that they are connected to 1 one of the stages... Woodfall temple represents his denial. Snowhead temple represents his anger. Great Bay temple represents his bargaining. Stone Tower temple represents his depression. His acceptance comes at the end when you beat majora's mask and he returns to hyrule. I saw this when someone posted a video on youtube explaining this. And it's something that is extremely real in life, there are people every single day who are facing their demons and when asked "are they ok" their answer always is "their fine" when the truth is really their not,their struggling,their broken, their lost, they feel completely and totally and utterly alone. Everything in that scene from the first time I saw it completely broke me because though I'm someone who doesn't deal with that same level of depression still I know what it can feel like to an extent and I know/knew people who have/are/delt with/dealing with this same internal struggle, man everything about that scene hurt so much it cuts so very very deep. it breaks my heart knowing people in life are struggling like this, the link that major link has created is so much more than a video game character, this link feels so much more like a real person a link that people can relate to in more ways than one. seeing what links gone through and especially saria hugging him made me want to hug link and people I know going through what links is and never let go. words alone can not describe all the emotions all the thoughts going through someone's mind when they see not just a character they love but can relate to and when they see the same happening to people they actually know in life. even at the end of their time "never regret the life you've lived be strong" I know link at thst point is more at peace but man the tears never stop coming no one should ever have suffer, or be in such pain and anguish. it's so hard to be strong when dealing with such very real emotions and thoughts such as the ones we see coming from link and again knowing and seeing that in people in our own lives.

This series has no business being as good as it is. I can't imagine anyone who is either going through depression, had depression, or knows someone close to them who has/had it, wouldn't cry. This part just hit home, hard. I don't know if Link is indeed suffering from depression in this, but his anguish is being handled with respect and a lot of care, which I highly appreciate from the writers.

The song of healing playing over Link's breakdown with Saria was really something. I noticed Link's leg twitching and knew something was coming, that the anxiety was rising. A full blown panic attack with him fighting himself over what to say really hurt. You did that scene really well, showing what it's like to have a panic attack like that and doing it justice.
@Mac_Omegaly3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I guess not all panic attacks manifest in the same way. If my leg starts twitching it's either because I had too much sugar or I'm getting restless or my blood pressure has dropped causing my leg to fall asleep and I need to try to stimulate it. But when a panic attack hits me, it's in my chest and weakness in my arms. It requires me to stop what ever I am doing, and take long deep breaths to make it go away. Sometimes it's a slow burning sensation, other times it's a punch in the face sudden occorance.

@Jeremiah905262 жыл бұрын
19:20 "Link, not all can obtain that armor as easily as you have." Hmm, easy. Let us review. At the ripe old age of 10 years old he was tasked first with going into the Deku tree to cleanse it of the monsters, in particular a giant spider, that had been ravaging it from the inside. He went in alone to a place where most of these knights would be barely willing to go as a squad, and he did it without any training prior. Then he was sent with a message to the princess, who then sent him to clear up the monsters to include a type of dragon, still 10, still solo, still unarmored. Then he was sent to clear out the guardian beast of the Zoras and save Princess Ruto, now armed with a boomerang as well. Cleared it, to include a giant jellyfish monster, still 10, still unarmored, still alone save Navi. He then was sent into the Temple of Time to retrieve the Master Sword and the Triforce. He was sent forward 7 years, thrust into an apocalyptic hellscape, though in a body that was 7 years older... 17 years old. At the age of 17 (physically) he then has to go off and clear the Forest Temple to release his childhood friend Saria, no real special tools for this, just the willingness to go through. Then he clears the fire temple, fighting actual freaking dragon, for this he was given an outfit that allowed him to not die due to the heat. That and a couple other thing is it. Hops back and forth through time, seeing people happily playing in a village one minute, and literal zombies the next, and having to just power through to do his job and clear the rest of the temples, do what he has to do. Then, after all that, he fights Ganon, and wins. Mentally, still probably close to 10, or a very mentally scarred 40. He finally goes back, stops all that BS from ever happening, and immediately loses the only constant he had through all this. He goes on a search mission (or probably closer to a mental health holiday). This leads him to Termina. In Termina he finds a land that is going to die unless someone stops it. He steps up to be that someone. He heals just about everything that possibly COULD be healed in the land, defeats 4 major temples and many smaller ones. Finally, he defeats Majora, using the power of a Fierce Deity. He heals Skull Kid of his depression and outbursts, and saves the entire land from destruction. He does all this while allowing 4 entities to take over him and transform his body in a way that is incredibly painful, every time, and yet he must change form hundreds, if not thousands of times. By the end of this, he is most likely, mentally around 11 years old. So yeah, easy. It is heavily implied that for the last 6 years of his journey, he has consistently been healing the world where he touches, but getting a suit of armor after facing death thousands of time wearing cloth and having no backup is him getting it easy. Sure.

11:54 this moment had me bawling as it was similar to something that happened to me. I'd went through something difficult that I felt that I was handling well. Everyone I knew was aware and I always assured them that things were good. However, one day, someone asked me specifically and sincerely, "are you okay?" And I immediately broke down. I didnt even understand it at first. It's like my body reacted before my mind could. Tears just started streaming, my chest tightened, and im sure my face showed the surprise I felt for a second before it all sank. That pause after Saria asked that question and the moment Link slumped over... it brought me back to that moment. I could feel the emotions and memories swelling up again. And then the cursor moving back and forth between thoughts, trying to find the words- man, that was perfect. Just the rush of emotion and the, for lack of a better word, panic it conveys, is so spot on. I look back on that moment, and that whole point in my life, and i'm reminded of how good the friends ive kept have been. My version of Saria here is similar. We dont talk much anymore, separated by physical distance, and just life in general. But we're still best friends. God this is such a good scene

i was actually actually crying through that sequence with saria and link's emotions. i was already feeling the emotions from earlier episodes (the reunion hugs do things for my soul) but this episode blew me out of the water. all of this series has been amazing and I bet it's gonna CONTINUE to be amazing!! from the choice to make it feel like the game with dialogue options, to the scoring hitting all the right emotional notes, to the character designs... it's all just a recipe for something amazing. This is long and probably way too much analysis but the tl;dr is "Link's design here is thematically really REALLY good" Primarily what comes to mind with the character design is the choice to put Link in a brown tunic instead of green. Some Links upgrade or change to different colors, but save for BOTW(and I guess arguably the Four Swords games but you start as just one Link), green is the default color for Link in his adventure. Most get outfits in red and blue to go with the green, if they do have anything. But they're still brighter colors. This Link has grown up. He had his visions and adventures through time, he traveled to Termina, and he's had the chance to live out a more normal life without being marked as a hero. He's had the chance to be a child and grow up. In brown, he's able to just be "some guy" for a while, with only the Ocarina of Time to signify that he's someone important, or was at some point in time. But even if he can be just "some guy" on the surface, there's more hidden just underneath. The memories of his adventures are still there, even if barely anyone else around knows. *He's not the same young, bright sprout he was as a child. He's slowly withering away from the pain he can't share.* He's faded from the green he once was, both in terms of emotions and experience. He traveled through dungeon after dungeon in a frankly somewhat terrifying future to have a chance at protecting his present. He lost his traveling companion and the people he grew up around that he called friends. Only four beings in the world he's in now know about what happened in Termina and three of them live in the woods. Link spent his time helping others, in what seemed like only a short time from an outsider's point of view. But it's been longer for him. So, so much longer. The Masked Salesman points out Link hasn't been able to heal his own sorrow. He healed others, yes, but not himself. He still can't find the friend he's been searching for. *He hasn't been able to find his own more permanent sense of happiness and healing from everything he's been through.* We still don't know what he's been through since the end of Majora's Mask until now, how many people's happiness Link has put before his own. But Navi is still gone. His friend still hasn't returned. Despite wanting to open up to Saria after meeting again for so long, Link can't bring himself to do it. He doesn't want to push his issues onto his friend after not speaking for so long. It's only when Saria asks "Are you okay?" that he cracks. *He's not okay, and hasn't been for some time.* Everything hurts, memories are flooding his mind, arrow frantically moving between options, no longer able to pretend like he's okay with the darkened options, and the last one of nothingness with a lower sound because there's no more words he can say. He already looked like he was crying or about to cry, and by the end his throat is too tensed up to speak(at least, that's how I see it). Impa says that it's in Link's heart to help others, but it's Zelda's answer that hits harder. "He deserves a rich and fulfilling life. Not one stuck risking his life for people who assume to know him. Just telling him what to do... It should be *his* choice to protect Hyrule, not ours." Yes, he's helped others and helped prevent the fall of Hyrule as a child. Yes, he healed the souls of the dead in Termina and prevented its destruction via moon(even if Termina itself still ceased to exist after the fact, maybe. I'm still lost there). *But it wasn't entirely his choice to do those things either.* The Great Deku Tree gave him a purpose, a chance to be a hero, and direction on where to go. Zelda insisted that Link help track down the other Spiritual Stones, and he didn't know that pulling the blade would pull him into more adventure. He was pleaded with by Rauru and Sheik to awaken the Sages and stop Ganondorf. He was helping others and following orders because it seemed like that was what he had to do. He ended up in Termina by accident, searching for a friend, and wanted to change back to the way he was. It just so happened that the Happy Mask Salesman wanted his help too, and leaving the world in crisis would make Link's life harder too. Solving the problems of others was just part of the process of saving Termina. While he does choose to become a knight and protect the Deku Tree, it can't be called entirely HIS decision. Impa still pushed him towards becoming a knight. Towards dedicating his life to protect the Deku Tree. Towards finding some twisted sense of purpose after months of nothing. They already know of the dangers of sending more knights into the woods, but Link still goes anyway. Out of some feeling of obligation and wanting a way to fill the void? Out of a want to protect the land he called home? As a way to escape his unhealed soul and rest on his own terms? It's hard to say at this point. He was just "some guy". He was a hero once upon a time, but those days in green have faded. He was a traveler in a brown tunic, with the only sign of his importance being the blue ocarina he carried with him. He was a man carrying burdens of unspoken adventures. He was given a chance to grow up living a more normal life. He was not burdened with the name of hero in the eyes of those around him until revealing that title himself. But putting on that armor took that away from him. He is supposed to be a beacon of hope. He is supposed to continue being selfless in the name of the crown. He is supposed to risk his life to protect an artifact guarded by the forest. He is supposed to stand as a knight of Hyrule. He is no longer able to pretend like he's an ordinary person. He is no longer allowed to show that he's withering away, now covering once-vibrant life with a metallic shell. He is no long able to put himself first to heal his own heart. (and the question of whether or not he will ever heal is a foregone conclusion...) (no clue if any of this is gonna make any sense but i really hope it does)

I watched this three times already and I cried every time. When Link broke down crying talking to Saria... I was 7-9 years old, respectfully, when I first played Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask on my Nintendo 64 and it had sad moments. I was moved in a way that I didn't fully understand until I became an adult, but seeing this broke my heart. It made me wish I could play the Song of Healing for him.

same…… this was just so beautifully done. OOT and MM gave and still give me such sad feelings whenever I think about the stories… the hero of time has always been playing the song of healing for everyone else in his life but never played once for himeself…
@Wolffman1093 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't that just turn him into a mask? Actually, on second thought, that only seems to happen to dead people. Pamela's father survived, after all. Then again, what if Link has the SKULL KID play the Song of Healing on his deathbed? It was kinda implied in the first episode. Majorlink is awesome at what he does, and I can't wait for the next part!

@_-insertname-_3 жыл бұрын
Ok. Everything about this is just amazing. The story, the animations, the fact you can read what they think from their faces without any words, the way the textboxes reflect Links‘ emotions, from lingering on a thought for too long to the way it kept switching faster and faster during the conversation with Saria before suddenly halting when the box stays empty, literally everything about said conversation, the music, the cuts, the way the music perfectly aligns with said cuts, that one shot were it ominously zoomed back from the happy masksalesman to just barely show Majoras Mask out of focus while he looks back in the middle, all the knowing foreshadowing to that helmet because we all know what it stands for and how this will end, the entire end scene with Ganondorf barely visible because of the light from behind but still clearly in his Twilight Princess getup further alluding to this fate, the way you can barely make out the Gerudo Valley theme in that shot down to the last moments with the Iron Knuckle slowly approaching, signaling that yes, for this character, this is very much over Just... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

This…this is stunning. I think there are so many ways to take this in. People see link as a strong courageous person who will save everyone but they never ask if he’s okay. They don’t see what he’s lost. Who he’s loved in life. How hard it is to go about your everyday life knowing you had to watch people suffer. He’s done so much. It’s just beautiful. When Zelda tried to stop link from going into the lost woods I could not hold it anymore and started to cry so hard thinking about link going home and sadly becoming a stalfos. This is just so hard to watch for us that grew up playing Loz games since ocarina of time. It really broke my heart but I thank you for giving link's thoughts and emotions a very well deserved spot in our hearts 💕. Whenever I play this game again it won't be the same.
@wearywanderer19123 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make sense for him to get lost in the woods and become a Stalfos because then he wouldn't be present in the war against Ganondorf. He'll most likely perish in battle against the Demon King. Also the Hero's Shade is not exactly a Stalfos but a spectre. You can look for videos here on YT that debunk this common misconception.

Minus the Stalfos part, because he isn’t a stalfos. He’s just a skeleton. You can see he’s translucency which shows that he’s a ghost, and his skeletal structure is completely human. He looks nothing like the Stalfos even shown in Twilight Princess itself. Nor does it make sense that Link would even become a Stalfos before having children, since TP Link is stated to be his direct blood descendant.

This legit had me crying multiple times, this episode. The way you presented Link's emotional breakdown was just too perfect. And I like how you handle his dialogue. Where it's not just what he says that matters, but also what he doesn't say, and we the viewer get to see all of that. Which makes sense since when playing Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, we _are_ Link. I can't wait for part 4. But if parts 1 through 3 are any indication, it'll be fantastic.
