There are so many things in this game that when you realise you can do it completely open up so many opportunities. Things like attaching a hover platform to an arrow and shooting it up for you to ascend onto as an example. When I realised we could do that it just opened up more opportunities for combat and exploration. Having trouble with a battle? Ascend up and you've got a snipers nest you can Bullet time down from. Can't climb that wet cliff? Ascend up it instead. So many of these little things that just click and unfold your tool box in this game.

But I was so immersed that I was already done of around 12 Hyrule shrines and around 15 Koroks Seeds, I found another shrine, but this one couldn’t be completed unless I had the Paraglider, so I came back to the main quest to get it, and that was yesterday! Now, I already have 5 Skyview Towers activated, 17 Koroks Seeds and 18 Hyrule shrines!

Ive found the recall ability really useful against enemies. A lot of them, especially larger enemies, will throw things at Link, and you can use recall to send them right back and damage the enemy. honestly in regards to weapon durability and the mechanic of "blacksmiths": I think there's no issue anymore, and no need for something like blacksmiths. Literally with the fuse ability, YOU'RE the blacksmith. Killing enemies grants the player with the base weapon, which could be of any type, as well as their horn, and other body parts, which then the player can use to make whatever weapon they desire. Want some weapon for mining? Just add a rock to it, or a ball with spikes, or a bulky horn. Want some weapon with range? Add two weapons together. Want a one handed weapon for combat? Add a horn with high stats. Want a weapon for cutting trees? Add a sharp stone or an axe shaped horn. Want an elemental weapon? Killing elemental enemies grants the player with their elemental horns or materials that can be add to base weapons. I'm not afraid to break my weapons, because I get rewarded by whatever fight I'm in or already have horns and other materials from previous battles to just take the base weapons from the enemies I just killed to make wathever I need or want. Also, if anyone likes being creative, creating killing/support machines or drones for combat is also an option, so even in a hypothetical case if a player runs out of weapons being creative is still an option for combat. GAMEPLAY SPOILER The game even provides pre-set blueprints for constructions, among them combat oriented constructions that as I said, can be an option in battle in case anyone wishes to make it easier, has run out of weapons, likes fighting like that, etc... I'd say the durability system is now perfectly doing its original intended purposes perfectly, which is making combats more thrilling, encouraging the player to explore for new weapons, and promoting the player to try out different types of weapons (and now combinations as well).

Hi! I just wanted to mention what you said at 11:15 ish of the video, there is a way to repair the durability of your weapons! The game just does not make it clear to the player at all, I don't even believe there is an NPC that mentions it. I learned it by watching some random youtube video about the game, I do not think this is something any casual player would honestly find out easily. If you take whatever weapon you would like to repair and bring it to a rock octorok, theyre found mostly in the eldin region, if you drop it on the ground, they will suck the weapon up when doing their attack and give an extra bonus to whatever weapon you drop, IN ADDITION to fully restoring the weapons durability. 11:30 Heres the thing about the weapons breaking in Tears and why I dont mind it. In BOTW, you'd hold onto stuff because you didnt know when your next good weapon would come and if you used it then didnt have it for something challenging, that felt bad. For this game, its not really like that because any random stick or sword you pick up can be as good or poor as you need so long as you are carrying around a bag of monster parts. I know that if I need a good weapon, then I can slap on a black lizard horn or whatever from earlier onto something before the encounter, and I know that going out of my way to hunt high grade or difficult monsters WILL give me good rewards since it gives guaranteed fusion parts to at the least replace what you used up in the process, if not upgrade them.

I've had a similar experience in that I've just crested the 110 hour mark and while I've done so much exploring and been checking off things here and there, in the grand scope of the entire game, it feels like I've barely done anything. I've done maybe 50-ish shrines, gotten a little less than 100 Koroks, I've gotten all but one of the surface towers unlocked, only a handful of Lightroots underground all scattered around, I've done only the Wind Temple (which was a goddamn delight), stuck my head into I don't know how many caves, and completed a bunch of side quests and activities. And I know I've just barely scratched the surface of what Tears has to offer in its entirety. I've immensely enjoyed every minute I've put into this game so far, I'm so excited to see everything else that lies ahead of me, and I see myself easily approaching 500 hours at the end of my first playthrough. At this point, I'm pretty confident that Tears of the Kingdom is easily going to take the crown as my new favorite game of all time.

However, that does reroll any bonuses the weapon may have (like ++ durability, or +8 damage or what else there is)

adding my voice to the many others here saying More Videos Like This Please! I've been following you for so long now that more than anything I just wanna know what you think. You have unique and hard-won insight about games as a whole, so I really value these pared-back videos where we just sit down for a chat. take your time, take care of yourself, and have fun in hyrule :)

I am currently 120+ hours into my first playthrough and it still feels like I've barely scratched the surface. I activated every Tower and Lightroot, am now going for Shrines/Device Dispensers while also doing MSQ when the itch arrises. Cave/well hunting is so fun and I love exploring the Depths for enemy camps and zonaite. This game is a masterpiece for me and I can already tell I'll be playing it for years to come. Looking forward to full review! Hope you and everyone at the office/home are taking care of yourselves!

11:06 the durability repair is a thing. The Rock Octorocks in the Eldin area will succ your weapons, bows, and shields and will fully restore the durability (and rerolls the enhancement on them) Edit: 1 item per Octorock per Blood Moon so kill them after you get the repaired item.

But also it doesn't feel like we need it as much in this game thanks to the depths. Having a way to easily get the most powerful weapons quickly from the stone pillars with the shadow soldiers, and fuse Lynel stuff to them means you'll always have strong stuff so it doesn't feel like you need to save things anymore. They've made durability a non-issue for good players which is amazing.

This was my first Zelda since OOT. I felt that the opening area did a good job giving out tutorial info. It *was* extremely long but there was a helpful construct to explain how to do all the things every time a new concept was introduced.

Someone needs to make sure Jirard learns about rock octoroks and their new ability to repair things!
@johnathanrhoades7751 Жыл бұрын
I could swear it was in BotW too, but I could be wrong.
@ArtificialXD Жыл бұрын
@@johnathanrhoades7751 Rock Octorocks on BOTW would take rusty weapons and de-rust them into a regular weapon that scales with your progress (so eventually Royal gear). There was no way to repair equipment though. If your Hylian Shield or Champion weapon was breaking, you simply had to break it and pay for a new one.

This was a great video. You're approaching this completely different from me. My main mission once I got out of the great sky island was to find all the towers and unlock the whole main level map. Then I beat a temple and started trying to unlock the entire depths map. I beat another temple and found all the geoglyphs (this story is pretty wild so far) during that time, too. Then I beat all the temples. Now I'm finally trying to beat the shrines and reconnect separated korok friends, etc. I'm probably 300 hours in and just figured out how to beat the hands and whatever that version of Ganon is called instead of just running for my life, transporting away, or dying. You should do some updates on this game. Maybe every hundred hours or so.

I really enjoy this video, and I can't wait to see the full Completionist episode on TOTK. Good luck on the 1,000 koroks hopefully the prize is better than that golden swirl (if anyone does know obviously no spoilers) Also minor note: 3:36 everyone I know pronounces it as "High-le-ans" instead of "Heel-e-ans". I am fine with people saying it the other way, but it just doesn't occur that much which is kind of interesting to me.

Love this style of video, I think it works perfectly for a game we all know you're working to complete. I can see it being used moving forward to great effect.

For me shrines felt like 50/50 on being just a glorified tutorial and something super unique and interesting after doing all of them. I was really surprised about the amount of shrines that were "free" Rauru Gifts. I know the idea is that the thing you did in the overworld was the challenge, but often with how open the game is I don't even know what that was and just get a free shrine.

I am one of those people who did not get the paraglider at first; I didn't even realize there was a starting area you were supposed to be drawn to instinctively to get the paraglider until I hit a dozen different shrines that were near IMPOSSIBLE to do, making me think there was some key ability I was missing. It made for a fun challenge in some cases, trying to beat a stage that would have been infinitely easier with a paraglider, but ultimately I had to retrace my steps and find out that yes there is a place I was supposed to go to first before heading off in a random direction

Ascend is a brilliant way to give the player more vertical mobility and is probably the best addition to your move set. All in all, the 3-layer world, the new powers, the new enemies, the new mechanisms and puzzles... I have multiple times already felt like I was going on a nice bite-sized adventure in the middle of the big adventure. Very satisfying and a great sequel to BotW. Not a fan of the difficulty curve though. 🤔 The tutorial islands alone have so many more opportunities to die compared to the plateau. I have been one-hit killed so many times, it's crazy, despite the fact I now have armour and several new hearts. Not sure why there are so many black and silver enemies either. At this point in BotW, I was still facing brown bokoblins...
@jonpierce3340 Жыл бұрын
You should embrace the fact that we are seeing black and silver enemies much quicker. Killing them grants you massively powerful fuse drops.
@GerardMenvussa Жыл бұрын
@@jonpierce3340 yeah, but you need powerful weapons to kill them. I really think the start of the game is brutal, compared to Botw which had a very smooth difficulty progression.
@highcaliber350 Жыл бұрын
@@GerardMenvussa without remote bombs, you have to play smarter to cheese fights like that without simply getting stronger weapons. It's definitely doable, and the stronger weapons you want are the reward for killing the enemies.

Thanks Jirard, love these types of videos where you just chat about your impressions of TotK, and would love to see an update for your next 100 hours! I'm also planning to complete TotK eventually, Hyrule compendium, costumes, recipes, koroks, Bubbulfrogs and all, and it's gonna be a fun yet massive undertaking haha. I loved BotW but its sequel made so many great improvements, the Zelda team created a true masterpiece. Good luck and enjoy the newest Zelda everyone!!

I like the embracing of player creativity in this game. The amount of creativity with the abilities I’ve seen online. Having mechas, flying machines and even workable battleships is insane

This game is so freaking massive, which really makes the whole 70$ controversy feel quite dumb. Currently I’m doing a lot in the depths, exploring for Lightroots while killing bosses (Mainly the big frog guys who drop a lot of Zonaite) and destroying the Zonaite outcrops I find so I can upgrade my batteries. It’s getting quite challenging though since my “world level” has gone up so much that most enemies I'm encountering in The Depths are Silver. Also, I hope you like fighting Lynels!

The rock octorocks repair a single weapon per blood moon now. Feed it a weapon/shield and it spits it out with an upgrade. Then kill the monster. Also, there’s about 150 bubbul gems but you don’t get anything for getting about 2/3 of them.
@Starcat5 Жыл бұрын
Oh, and for Unique weapons that Rock Octorocks normally won't repair? Fuse it to the end of a normal weapon, have the Octorock repair THAT, then de-fuse it in Terry Town. No stat buffs, but it will have full durability again.

A “State of the Union” style video like this for horrendously long games is such a brilliant idea. I hope you don’t have to play games you need to do this too often, but it’s a nice way to get content on something that’s going to take 100’s of hours to finish.

The amount of content in this game is absolutely staggering. I have 110 hours so far, I've finished the main quest and have found every piece of armor, but I've only found 50 korok seeds, and still have dozens of side/adventure quests in my quest log, not to mention the compendium to fill in and all the wells and caves to find and finish . Gathering all the armor upgrade materials alone will probably take another hundred hours

Fun facts: the Ascend ability originally was used as a cheat code for developers for easy traversal. They thought afterwards that it would be interesting to include it in the game.
