Navi is a character from Ocarina of Time, that some people seem to love and some people seem to hate. Ever since Ocarina of Time was released, many fans have been wondering where Navi had gone to once Link had returned the Master Sword. Link even went out to search for her during the events of Majora's Mask. But he never found her. Where has Navi gone?
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed the video :)!

Navi being dead kind of makes sense with the five stages of death theory on majora's mask. Maybe its not link who is dead (and the game would be about him figuring it out), but navi. Termina's purpose would not make link realize he is dead, but realize NAVI is dead.

Gustavo Barbosa Also, Skull Kid's main conflict is feeling isolated and alone, just like link did without Navi. Them becoming friends at the end brings up the allegorical implication that Skull Kid helped Link home through the lost woods, Much like he Led his descendant to the Master Sword hundreds of years later.

God, this really gets to me, what Vortexxy said in her narration. Knowing her fate now I can't help but think in a round about way without knowing it, she was talking about herself. The fact that she just disappeared a week after her final video, that for the longest time her viewers wondered where she was, and what she said about Navi at the very end. Well, the fairies leave when their duties are done, but nothing suggests that they DIE when their job is finished.
@VortexxyGaming
@VortexxyGaming 10 жыл бұрын
And that's why it's a theory :). I'm assuming they die since Navi didn't say a single word to Link when she left. If she would at least say why she had to leave she could give Link closure (something like how she can't stay because Link is not a Kokiri). But she didn't. Every other companion Link has partnered up with, like Midna and Fi for example, state they have to leave and say goodbye. Navi simply leaves as soon as they get back to the past. It makes me think that fairies vanish, or die, when their job is done. But of course, it's just a theory!
@brendensmith3083
@brendensmith3083 10 жыл бұрын
I always took Navi's silent leave as saying that she had different duties to attend to. She couldn't say "goodbye" to Link, since it really wasn't goodbye. Navi was simply going off to search for the Hero again (with Fi, who lives inside her, because speculation is fun!)

I remember a interview with Miyamoto with him explaining how the inspiration for Zelda was basically his own adventures as a child, imagining himself as Peter Pan. That comes without saying. Link's elf-like nature and his clothes are a great giveaway. But what about the fairies? Is it possible he also got inspired by the fairies in the book? In the famous story, Tinkerbell, a not so bright fairy, has a huge crush on Peter, protecting him from anyone who dares to come close. Considering the emotional ending, and all the other iterations of fairies in other games (even the Fairy Queen is infatuated with Link in WW) it's not a stretch to imagine that maybe Navi had also a crush on Link.

This theory makes a lot of sense, especially when you look at major's mask and realize everyone is going through the various stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and then finally acceptance. The three main masks are all related to that, except for the denial stage, which link upon arriving signifies, while him going back to Hyrule after the events of Major's mask would be his acceptance.

After watching several Game Theorist vids on The Legend of Zelda, I found myself wondering if there was a theory about Navi and her whereabouts. I have a theory on Navi.... Navi.... was the spirit of Links mother. When his mother brought him into the Kiki ring forest and died. The Deku tree decided to reincarnated her into a fairy. But now as the fairy Navi she had to wait til it was time for Link to profile his destiny . Navi watched over Link like any mother would . And after saving Hyrule Navi left knowing Link was going to be fine and has to let go of Link's mother's soul so she can go to the after life in peace.

The navi's death in the end of OoT totally fits with the very sofisticated theory about Kubler Ross' inspiration in Majoras. That's a very strong collection of similarities to be descarted so quickly in the argue "it's against Nintendo's Hyrule Historia". If that theory is used to explain the grief for Navi and not his own death, it's not a contradiction of Hyrule Historia at all. So why don't put it in this video??? Link had to pass trough all five stages to accept his friend's death and go on with his life, with Malon, turning into "stalfos in TP" and all... It does make sense.

***** I'm not saying these events in Termina are a dream because of a fall. It really happened, but despite the pure material adventure, I can also see these events as a methaphorycal enlightenment to put an end in the search for Navi and reach maturity. Link always grows during his adventures, just like is showed in OoT. I can't just ignore all the similarity with Kubler Ross' theory (all four dungeons related with death/loss and work as equivalent of a step to acceptance of death) and the fact that he was looking for a "dead" friend.
@VortexxyGaming
@VortexxyGaming 10 жыл бұрын
Well, I understand the five stages of grief,but the last one is acceptance. Link kind of picks up his search for Navi right where he left off after the end of his adventure in.Termina. He seems full of high hopes and Tatl even remarks he "should go about his business" and Link nods and leaves right away . This sudden parting always struck me as odd as Tatl essentially tells him to gtfo because they're having a party. Very blunt. It doesn't seem to me like he had accepted already that he'd never find navi. What I do agree on is that Link did mature around more 'adult' topics including death. And this does open the road to eventual acceptance.
@Rozenxz

***** after watching your video I believe link does go through the 5 staged of death and he does accept that navi is dead. When tatl tells him to go home. Link realizes that he does have a home and he still has a friend in hyrule and that person is Zelda who was wishing and waiting for the day of his return. She tells u that when u get your ocarina back. She was always wishing and praying for links return since link probably left out of isolation of his quest, he probably disregard her companionship. The Navi theory would fit with how the different locations in Termina represent the 5 stages of grief. Link are looking for Nav and is still in denial. While in Termina he goes through the stages of grief and in the end, achieve acceptance with her death.
@seraphshade
@seraphshade 9 жыл бұрын
+VortexxyGaming I don't think that Navi is truly dead. I think that when her purpose was fulfilled, she disappeared then reincarnated, like a promotion system. Each time you fulfil a purpose, you vanish then reincarnate into a stronger fairy. This would explain the existence of multiple great fairies and a fairy queen, in that, they went through a series of fulfilment, reincarnation and promotion. This would mean that Navi appeared somewhere else, stripped of memories, and stronger. However, just as their bond had Link going through the stages in termina, Navi would also have some residue of that bond. Over many fairy cycles, Navi would become strong enough to exist similar to the great fairies. She would still feel the residue of the bond, the yearning for a hero she has never met, and the sadness of being incomplete without a partner. She would then end up in a cave, crying tears over a void in her soul that she doesn't know how to fill. She is the fairy in the Cave of Ordeals TP.

So I have my own theory about the connection of OoT and MM. After the events of OoT, Link sets out to find his "lost" friend in the woods but along the way, the mischievous skull kid runs across the Happy Mask Salesman and steals the Mask. The skull kid in MM is proven by dialogue to be the same skullkid that link meets on the stumps in the lost woods. After stealing the mask, Termina was created by the skullkid through the evil power of the mask as a way to destroy the Hero of Time. However the bond of friendship between the skullkid and Link twisted what the power of Majora intended(The Power of Friendship! lol) to give Link a chance to go through the 5 stages of Grief, as told by the MM=purgatory theorists, over his loss of Navi. After all, the First stage is denial as seen by his long journey through the lost woods in search of Navi. As for the characters in MM and their Hyrulian counterparts, that can be attributed to the power of the mask. To follow along with this, The Fierce Deity Mask is obtained once all masks are found. Each mask has its own attributes as told by the Salesman. In his journey through Termina, he learns about these feelings through each of the masks and how to deal with such loss as death. Thus, giving him the power to overcome any darkness, including that from within, in order to beat Majora's Mask, and, ultimately, Grief. In the end, his fight with grief appears to be similar to the fight with the dragon, Majora of legend that the mask was carved from(according to "noncanon" Manga) in its own death and sealing. Which would explain the statement by the Salesman "So the evil has left the mask after all" after defeating the Mask. Who or what the Happy Mask Salesman actually is is lost on me. He could be a member of the Ancient Tribe spoke of or he could be a deity himself. There isn't enough for me to go off of concerning his role in the Timeline.

I can really think that it may have some sort of connection to the theory of Navi dissapearing. Majora's Mask is now more depressing (considering on how Termina is based off the five stages of grief (and no, I don't mean the whole "Link is dead" b***s***, mind you (please pardon my language slip-up). I'm just saying that Navi is dead, and Link is going through the five stages during the game of Majora's Mask)

Navi doesn't help in the first fight with Gannon because she says she can't be in the presence of that much evil; but she forces herself to help in fighting Gannondorf. I always thought she went off to die because she had been near the evil force.

You know that is a better theory. Link's not dead and going through the 5 stages to accept it, he's going through the 5 stages because of someone else's death/dissapearance. And really...that makes a lot more sense when you consider the prologue to Majora's Mask. Actually now.....im realizing more and more things than what she talked about in the video. HOLY CRAP MY MIND IS BLOWING UP!

I always thought Navi pushed herself too far in the battle with Ganon. During the first phase she says she can't get close enough to Ganon to help, but during the second phase she pushes through to be able to help Link with the fight. She burned through all of her energy and knew she was about to die.

I think the fact that Navi died caused Link to go through the fases of grief in MM.
@lily_littleangel

I do, and I have thought about that. Link does not know that Navi is dead, so he goes through Terminal while experiencing the fases of death. After the final stage, wich is acceptence, he accepts the fact that Navi is dead, and moves on with the rest of his life.

+Luigi_FS But still, in order for him ti accept her death, he would still have to know about it first. At no part of the game does Link find any evidence pointing to Navi's death. Which is why Link is seen at the end continuing his journey. He is continuing his search for Navi.

In twilight princess we see that that window actually leads to the rest of the temple of time via magic stairs. Perhaps this is were Navi vanished too. Because she could no longer stay with link, instead of enduring a heartbreaking goodbye, she simply decided it best to just leave, and so she went deeper into the temple, were link could not find her. This also is very tragic for link because while hes searching thje entire world and beyond, Navi was never far from him in the very begining, and all his searching has been in vain

This is supported by the idea of Link going through the 5 stages of grief in Majora's Mask. The *cough*ridiculous*cough* Link's Dead theory brutally takes from this beautiful story. He's searching for Navi, and when faced with death (the moon and presumed realization of her demise) he goes through the five stages and grief only to come out at the end with a new friend... the only other person he knew from Hyrule; another child lost in the woods. After coming to the acceptance of loss and moving forward he can find his way through the lost woods and go home. Termina is a physical dimension in the multiverse but the Lost woods is just as important to the allegory as the rest of the world. People feel lost when they grieve and friends and loved ones help through the process. Skull Kid can travel back and forth and would be able to show him the way. The TP skull kid is likely the same one as well seeing as he's basically an immortal lost soul AND he leads the descendant of an old friend through the now vastly overgrown lost woods to the Master Sword.

My own Navi theory: perhaps Navi was sent to help the hero save hyrule, yes, BUT what most people overlook is that although fairies do vanish once they have fulfilled their purpose, if I remember correctly, they never specifically state that they die, so perhaps instead of dying Navi is given a new purpose, maybe instead of just guiding link from Oot she is secretly helping other link's as well, for example, it is possible that Navi has become the Blue-ish green-ish haired fairy you see in Tp? And is secretly completing her goal of guiding the hero, and even if fairies do die when their goal is complete, who's to say navi's goal CAN be completed? Navi's goal was to aid the hero on his journey, but since there are multiple links in an endless cycle between him and ganondorf, she cannot complete her goal, maybe the reason she cannot help link is because, well, usually there really is no point, for example, in the next game in the story: Majora's Mask, navi cannot help link because 1: he is in Termina where if you believe the "link is dead theory" link has passed on or 2: because she has been replaced, also in TP he is guided by Midna, but in on point of the game she appears as her new human like form to see how he is doing in his quest, this even gives her line "I am impressed that you made it this far, hero" a whole new meaning than what we originally thought she meant, but really, idk, I don't like to believe that navi is dead, I don't think that Nintendo would introduce a character like that into the Zelda universe and then just kill her off, what do you guys think about this?

This connects really well with EmceeProphit's videos about the themes and motifs of LoZ: MM. The dungeons/locations and bosses and each subplot is each one of the stages of grief. Link could be looking relentlessly for Navi in LoZ: MM to the dismay to everyone that he knows who tells him to just let go and accept that she is dead/in spirit realm, but he refuses to listen and continues on into the plot of MM. MM's aforementioned themes thereby symbolize his battle with grief for Navi. Hence, maybe MM is not that meh theory of 'Link is dead and he has to accept it', but instead 'Navi is dead and Link has to accept it'. BTW, your theories very insightful. Check out EmceeProphit's videos if you haven't already. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if you had already, being an LoZ analyst yourself. Cheers.

Navi went to the source of all faeries. Link went on adventuring in search of this source, and Navi. Honey and Darling eventually had a really big fight, and broke up. Last I heard, Honey had moved to Kakariko, and moved on with Jiro. She's happier, and much more well-adjusted. Darling, on the other hand, pretty much bottomed out, and once tried to hook up with a Gerudo. After that, they found him out by the Bombchu Shop one night, seventeen knife-wounds in his chest, and no rupees.

However; there's another theory that's a lot darker. The theory is that in majoras mask, link is dead, and he's in purgatory fighting his way out. The mask man saying "you've met with a terrible fate haven't you?" And him continuously turning back time before the moon hits. A battle he can't win without an edge from the divine. Navis dead too, she's probably the fairy in the beginning and we have no clue.

I'm curious what your thoughts are on the kokiri in windwaker and their lack of fairies. It might be possible they are still around and appear as the small orb lights floating in the forest haven; that link cannot see them because he cannot. Other possibilities dictate that while long, maybe long enough to last a week, or possibly just a twinge longer, that fairies have a much shorter life span then one would expect and thus cannot stray far from their fountains. The few lucky that do often reside in some lucky dungeon. It would also suggest why in some games, you could see the fairies in the overworked (the conditions at the fountains have lent to overcrowding and a migratory behavior) and why in some games they do not, also the games that do not have overworld seem to be nearby in time to great conflicts. Suggesting more people sought the help of the fairies and actively sought them, preventing a migratory behavior.

The way fairies work is for gameplay mechanics. When Link catches a fairy and the fairy heals him, it leaves. That doesn't mean the fairy dies. In fact, you can always go back and find fairies by going to the spot where you first encountered them. If you argue gameplay mechanics like "the fairy disappears after it heals you", then you also have to argue for the notion that the fairy can be found EXACTLY where you found it to begin with. The case of Tatl and Tael is another factor that this theory has to completely and totally overlook. Tatl and Tael clearly have no purpose. The "fairies die after serving their purpose" argument is simply a way to make elements in the series needlessly dark, and its a completely and totally baseless theory that's only brought about by mechanics that exist BECAUSE OF GAMEPLAY. (Because it'd be OP to have fairies constantly stick around and heal you forever.) When a fairy heals Link, it is correct that it has served its purpose. So it leaves and goes somewhere else, the fairy doesn't die.
@JaidynReiman
@JaidynReiman 8 жыл бұрын
Dixon Cider It doesn't matter. Its a pointless argument. The video is trying to say fairies die when they've "fulfilled their purpose" because they disappear when they heal Link. That's the ONLY basis for the argument. Without it everything falls apart. And fairies disappear when they heal Link for gameplay purposes, not because there's any sort of lore behind it. It doesn't matter if they're different kinds of fairies or not. The argument falls flat on its face if you just think for two seconds about it.
