You know, a friend of mine pointed out to me there are a few dungeons in the Legend of Zelda that have mythological/religious roots. The Stone Tower Temple (MM) and the Ancient Cistern (SS) are two of these. Curious, I did some research and found that the Stone Tower Temple is based off of an old story of a people who were blessed by the gods. With this blessing, they became prosperous and eventually grew corrupt. The people saw themselves as superior to others and built a tower, a tower to reach the heavens and be at the level of the gods themselves. Outraged, the gods turned the tower upside down so that the higher the people climbed, the further down they went and it symbolized how they were sent farther down than ever before and had lost the gods' favor.
@erendamine8849 жыл бұрын
The Ancient Cistern, however was based off of a Buddhist tale. There was once a man who did everything wrong in life, but he never killed a spider. For the entirety of his life, the man avoided killing spiders, no matter the circumstance. Obviously, when he died, he did not join Buddha. He stayed with the damned. However, Buddha, looking down, saw this man and took pity upon him, for the man never slayed a spider. He lowered a spider's thread for the man to climb up on. But, the souls of the damned saw the man climbing up to the golden palace to be with Buddha and were jealous. They scrambled up the thread, climbing over each other and on the man until the thread snapped, sending all, including the man, back down and the man who never killed a spider did not join Buddha. In skyward sword, you see this as there is the golden upper world that seems at peace and is beautiful, and the dark lower world of the dead with only a spider string connecting them.
@stephenobrien69839 жыл бұрын
erendamine I am not too sure, but I think with that buddhist tale, the reasoning for it snapping was because the man started kicking the others down off the thread because he fancied salvation only for himself.

Actually, there's one other detail that might/could be added to why/how Majora's Mask could be linked the Kingdom of Ikana: You know how when you wear the Captain's Mask when in the castle of Ikana, all the ReDeads start dancing? Compare all of their dance moves to the ones that Majora's Incarnation performs. They're all the same (aside from the moonwalk, but that could be just a clever wink at the audience; "moonwalk on the moon"). It could just be a coincidence, but seeing how random the actions of Majora's Incarnation are, and how random it is for the ReDeads to be doing those dances in the first place, and how you don't see those dance moves anyplace else (unless I'm mistaken), I can't help but wonder if that was done on purpose as one of the clues to connect Majora with Ikana. In fact, didn't it say that Majora's Mask was used in the Ancient Tribe's hexing rituals? I don't know much about hexing rituals, but I can't help but get the impression that dancing would have played a part in it. It would explain how Majora was influenced into behaving as it did when it was in its Incarnation mode.

So Redeads are the undead bodys of those who made the mask? maybe they were cursed into Redeads I dont feel like its that true so I wont look into it
@donovanreese97684 жыл бұрын
@@PlayerN101 and Kelaiah01, there is a gossip stone (I forget where exactly) that says that the Redeads of Ikana Canyon were dancers for the Ikana family in life. I think that the implication is that the dancers were slaves or just lower class, and were expected to dance before the important Ikana Nobles. Captain Keeta would clealy have been one of the most respected men in the Kingdom.

If we were to take this a bit further, it seems possible that Majora's Mask was originally locked away in that massive desert where Twinmold is fought. There are, after all, giant monuments to its glory. And whatever that area once was, it's a long-dead desert in the present. Probably because Majora's taint killed all life within it.

@iwasanMBTInerd10 жыл бұрын
I have a theory about the ancient ones being the dark interlopers. The ancients were a dark and evil tribe who excelled at magic, like the interlopers and created Majora's Mask inside of stone tower temple. They thought their mask exceeded the goddesses which is why they mocked them. During the Ikana war they used their sorcery to help the Garo and test the power of Majora on the Ikanians. However, they only used a fraction of its power since they knew how it's full power couldn't be controlled, much like the Fused Shadows. In stone tower temple there is a hole in the sky that resembles a portal. This is most likely what Link used to get to Twinmold. The area where Twinmold is fought could be the haunted wasteland of Hyrule since it greatly resembles it. After the Ikana war they created the Fused Shadows and left Termina to obtain the triforce in hyrule through the portal leading to the far outskirts of gerudo desert, all the while leaving Majora's Mask in Termina. Majora's Mask and the fused shadow have a strikingly similar design btw.

My theory of Stone Tower is almost identical to this theory. I actually loved how you concluded that the residences of Ikana moved to clocktown. I never thought of it that way and definitely explains why they like their mask. Two details that you could of included is the fact that all the mask with power in MM have souls or essence of the original being. The most powerful mask in the game granted strong powers (Deku, Goron, Zora, Feirce Deity). Majora's Mask was not only used by the ancient tribe but could of been a trapped soul similar to the other mask. The second detail is the fact in Twilight Princess spoke of an ancient tribe, the interlopers, who possessed great magic and thought their powers were greater than the triforce (the giant mask that covers the triforce). It's not far fetched when you considered the design of Majora's Mask and the fused shadows look very similar.

Really like your videos, you expanded hylian dan's theory ("the message of majoras mask") in better ways, i would have added the part where the goddesses turn the stone tower upside down (with the light arrows) so the tribe cannot reach the sky, but still your theory is great Have you come up with a theory on what is the giants mask and why is it in the tower?

But at the same time, once Termina was unified, one, so the giants may not have created Termina itself, but they may've been the ones to split it into Woodfall, Snowhead, Great Bay and Stone Tower (I use the words "Stone Tower" for the Ikana region based on the Map of the Ikana region from Tingle) and of course Clock Town and Milk Road

You hit the bullseye when you've mentioned the Garo to have opened the stone door of that temple. My guessing is that a huge war broke out between the Ikana Kingdom and the Garo nation. Ever since the Garo were spying on Ikana, chances are they've discovered the Stone Tower Temple during one of their expeditions, returning back home with information that the tower has been discovered. Once the war broke out, I assume a war party broke off the battle to join several Garo shamans, soldiers and their masters to perform dark rituals in order to open the doors to the Stone Tower Temple. Ever since the temple holds immense amounts of dark powers, unbeknownst to the Garo war party, opening the doors of the temple resulted into a powerful curse being unleashed upon the land, destroying both factions warring in the Ikana fields, as well scattering the remainder Garo survivors and Ikana forces alike. Taking into account that the Garo nation is probably in another region or continent far away from Termina, chances the scattered Garo forces decided to treck their way back to their own country, possibly dying of starvation, disease, or weather elements. During past real events, defeated armies began their journey back to their own lands with little chances of survival as disease, starvation or thrist sets in. This might have happened to the Garo army battling the Ikana Kingdom. Ages came to pass, and the kingdom remained cursed as the Stone Tower Temple doors remained open since that day.

wow i really enjoyed this theory. there is so much deepness and meaning hidden in majoras mask, that's one reason why it is my favorite zelda game. for instance, I think there might be a lot to discuss about the song of healing. death, remorse and forgiveness are central features of this game, and the one who has the ability to heal those who are affected by these things is link who heals their souls with the song of healing. deku mask, goron mask, zora mask are the remnants of the souls left behind to complete their tasks, soothe their pain and regrets and ultimately heal their souls because death was inevitable for them. I just think the song of healing and death itself are very interesting aspects of the game...and deserve a video on their own. questions like 'why does the masks salesman know about the song'? or 'where did the song come from and how is link able to heal their souls?' have yet to be answered. just listening to the song itself gives off a strange feeling. it neither is a sad nor happy tune. but whenever i hear it...it goes under my skin. almost like...it's healing my soul.

The other theory about the Stone Tower Temple is that is not dedicated to Majora's but for the four Giants. Some of the blocks show giants licking the Triforce and the entry of the temple is a giant to. In fact, Majora's mask was locked in Hell. And the guys who builded the Tower to go to the Sacred Realm was transformed into a portal to Hell, represented by a big desert. The theory of the giants is related because of the presence of the Giant's Mask that we can found.

I'm quite a fan of your work, as of recently, as they make a good deal of sense. Keep it up! But I have to ask, because I am just a little curious: Do you believe in the whole "Link is dead" theory for Majora's Mask, how Link is actually in some sort of purgatorial plane of existence (Termina) after falling down that huge pit? If you do (or don't), did you use it to help base off this theory and other theories involving Majora's Mask? Either way, this was a great video, and I hope to see more of these from you!

MidnightOnTheThirdDay The Giants are stated outright as Gods and they physically manifest while helping out their friends. They are revered as guardians but also stated as Gods. So, maybe the Giants helped the three goddess and that's what made them leave, or maybe the Giants built Stone Tower to and they made the Giants mask so the people can help them fight.

I still don't think Terminia has anything to do with Hyrule in any way or the goddesses. I feel like it's either a strange comatose dream or some odd alternate dimension where the world was created by some other means (four giants?). You may notice that there is no trace of the triforce anywhere in Terminia in a proper sense. it does show up in texture patterns but I would honestly chalk that up to either easter eggs or coincidence. Almost as if it simply does not exist in this world. The only time you see the triforce insignia is if it's something that belongs to Link or a flashback. And when I say alternate dimension I mean an entirely separate, yet somehow parallel, universe; as the sacred realm, twilight realm, dark world and Lorule are all in some way directly connected to Hyrule and feature different characters. Terminia seems to be quite literally something along the lines of a Bizarro world where people are actual carbon copies of people who live in Hyrule but have different names and personalities, effectively making them entirely different people at the same time. Terminia is, much like the game itself in the series, a complete anomaly.

+Toomany .Toastuhs ................Yep your right..................for some reason Link got tired of Hyrule, or whatever reason, and made a mistake by Leaving his Realm, which is why he took a long fall in the hole. majora's mask is such a mystery! i love this game so much. i hope nintendo is not ever confirming most of the things in majora because i love listening to theories the players are creating. by listening to a lot of theories from others,i created my own. great video! i just noticed now that the poe collectors legs are bloody 5:10. at least they are red... this might be a hard one but could you make a ghirahim/demise theory? i am a ghirahim lover myself.. ♥

I hope they'll make a sequel or remake to Majora at some point. I'm going to make a Ganondorf theory at some point so Demise and Ghirahim will be covered then. Or if I find a lot of stuff, they'll get their own video :)

Find topics that interest you and then try to find as much information about it as you can from the games, wiki and HH. Then start piercing things together. Sometimes nothing comes out of it, but sometimes you'll find something cool. I try to get evidence for everything I say to back it up. Most importantly, have fun doing it ^^

So does this mean that Link performs sackrelidge during the events of MM? I mean, the Three Goddesses themselves must have wanted Termina to end in the first place, but Link (An outside force not chained to the world's destiny) singlehandedly, albeit unknowingly, saved the people that had turned on their goddesses. While he did destroy the mask in the end, he still went against their desires... And assuming the goddesses have reign over all of the timelines, did they punish Link for his misdeeds, thus leading him to become the Hero's Shade? Just something to think about.

Just thought of something...Why the heck was Possessed Skull Kid in the Lost Woods at the point where Link runs into him? It seems to be normal behavior for Normal Skull Kid to go back and forth between Termina and Hyrule a lot; he had to have gone back to Termina after/during OOT in order to befriend Tatl and Tael, and then back to Hyrule again in order to run into the HMS & Majora, and then back to Termina again to start causing all the troubles present in Termina by the time Link arrives. Possessed Sull Kid has no reason to go back to Hyrule a month after initially starting trouble though, since Majora doesn't seem to care about Hyrule as far as we know. At least not at that moment, since it's busy carrying out the current "destroy Termina" plan. So...why/what were they doing in the Lost Woods again when Link encounters them?

Just out of curiosity what country are you from? Your accent caught my attention as I haven't heard one like it before. Interesting theory by the way.

HMS: enters STT and snatches Majora's Mask Also HMS: knocked out by a child What 😂 Aight, this theory is amazing, it gives me more curiosity on exploring Stone Tower and the holes during MM and OoT - especially the Ikana War - as we don't know *when* Termina was exactly created

Loved it as allways!. I allways thought that Termina is linked to Hyrule because of the way these ghosts speak in the Ikana Canyon so what if one tribe of Hyrule knew about Majora and tried to *snatch* it as you said?. That would have been the Happy Mask Salesman then. Then I think about his origin. HMS must be the same linked to Ganondorf as Ganondorf had pointy ears just like the HMS. The HMS also has red eyes, pretty similar too. What if the HMS is actually some kind of reincarnation from Demise?. Oh, and their hair look a bit similar too. I don't know, just pointing out my thoughts.
@VortexxyGaming10 жыл бұрын
HMS actually has black eyes. They just look red because every time his eyes are open he's angry, so his eyes are bloodshot (I think that's the word?). Pointed ears are a Hylian trait, but Ganondorf's rounded ears became pointy in later games. I don't know why haha. Just the red hair wouldn't make someone Ganondorf either, as there are multiple red haired characters. Also Ganondorf is still alive during MM so he can never be the HMS, since Demise can't reincarnate as he's already Ganondorf. Also Ganondorf is chilling with the Twili so he cant be elsewhere ;).

Majora's Mask has a lot of connections/similarities to Ocarina of Time, and, for the most part, they're obvious and self-explanatory because Nintendo only had a year to make the game. However, there are some lesser-known/discussed connections, specifically between the Stone Tower Temple and the Spirit Temple. The Stone Tower Temple is the final dungeon of Majora's Mask, and the Spirit Temple is the final dungeon of Ocarina of Time (on a comedic note, the Spirit Temple is the 8th dungeon in Ocarina of Time, and the Stone Tower Temple is the 4th dungeon in Majora's Mask; 8 ÷ 4 = 2, which is the number of temples I'm talking about 😂). Both temples have a similar theme; the Spirit Temple being desert-themed, and the Stone Tower Temple being canyon-themed, but with a boss battle in the desert; one with pillars like the ones outside the entrance to the Spirit Temple and a sandstorm like the one in the Haunted Wasteland (there are also Leevers with pinchers kinda like the Twinmolds' pinchers). The bosses themselves have connections as well; Twinrova and Twinmold (Even the names are similar; although, there are differences too, ofc). You first fight Koume and Kotake as separate individuals, then they fuse together as the combined, younger Twinrova form. That could be a reference to Twin Flames. Twinmold are two identical insects resembling that of centipedes, millipedes, etc (The insect approach could be a reference to Egyptian myth as well). They also each have 3 eyes, which could be a reference to opening one's Third Eye (I've mentioned that on your Shadow Temple video), or maybe just a subtle, subliminal Triforce. You fight them both at the same time, but you defeat them one at a time. Even though the Twinmold are insects, they somewhat resemble snakes, which could allude to the Kundalini. Both temples and bosses have some sort of symbolism of duality and references to Eastern culture. Additionally, as mentioned in your Spirit Temple video, there is a lot of duality there as well along with a reference to the Kundalini; with the Sand Goddess statues having a snake around each one. Additionally, each temple has a statue depicting a deity of some sort outside the entrance. The Sand Goddess statue is sitting in a meditative position with her hands open, while the Stone Tower Temple statue, which looks like a beetle to me, holds it right hand up pointing its index and middle finger as you mentioned. The Sand Goddess statue that's inside the Spirit Temple has a Triforce on the palm of her hand, while the Stone Tower Temple statue has a Triforce on its rear as you mentioned (I think it might have one on its hand, too). Going back to the beetle statue's right hand, that hand sign is commonly found on all sorts religious art from different cultures; it is a mudra affirming the spiritual phrase, "As above, so below". This is fitting since you have to go through the temple in both the upright and inverted positions. It is also found on the artwork depicting the occult deity known as Baphomet, largely associated with Satanism (Baphomet is very much a symbol of duality as well).Not only that, but the most commonly known depiction of Baphomet, which is a painting by Eliphas Levi, features a white crescent moon in the top left corner with a black background and a black crescent moon in the bottom right corner on a white background. That it interestingly similar to how when the temple is inverted, the sun and moon switch positions.) Baphomet, however, uses both the hand sign *and* sits in a meditative position with its legs crossed (Perhaps these deities could be two halves to a whole? 🤔). There are different forms of Satanism, from literal devil worship (or worship of any underworld deity, for that matter), to some form of magic belief and/or practice, to a general anti-religious/atheistic philosophy or way of life regarding self-exultation. A large number of proclaimed Satanists openly reject the idea of God, like how the Ikana turned their backs on the Goddesses. And going back to the statue looking like a beetle, it could resemble a fly as well, sort of like the Canaanite fly god Baal-zebul, referred to as Beelzebul or Beelzebub in the Bible (likely different in different versions). Also largely considered to be Satanic. That would be fitting too considering the allusion to the Tower of Babel. I also wanted to point out the brooch with the red jewel; there is a similar piece of jewelry like it on Ganondorf's forehead in Ocarina of Time as well on Koume and Kotake's forehead in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (Kotake's is blue, like the color of the Third Eye Charka [indigo]). In Indian spirituality, many individuals wear some sort of stone or crystal on their forehead to stimulate their Third Eye Chakra, which could be yet another Third Eye allusion in Zelda. Fittingly, the Gerudos appear to African or Indian or Middle-Eastern. There's still more tho XD Interestingly, if you look at the Giant's Mask upside-down, it kinda resembles the head of an Anunnaki statue, and right side up, it somewhat resembles the head of an Anakim giant; possibly where the inspiration of the four giants came from. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9f/God_Head_Djabul_Louvre_AO10831.jpg/396px-God_Head_Djabul_Louvre_AO10831.jpg tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.z-gRuXR7yYJA0i9KLxnrxgHaFY&pid=Api&P=0&w=233&h=170 I also noticed that "Ikana" spelled backwards is "Anaki", which is one letter short of "Anakim"; it is also very similar to "Anunnaki". There's a lot of fan theories pointing to the Tower of Babel as well as the different ancient tower myths. In Anunnaki myth, at least according to some sources I found, the tower was to be built as a spaceport for extraterrestrials as Ancient Astronaut theory would suggest. The inverted sky, in that sense, could be seen as space; no matter what direction the planet rotates, space is what's beyond the sky/atmosphere, as the Ancient Astronaut theorists associate the 'heavens' with space.

I feel like the Garo were the ancient tribe as they're all dead now and almost nobody could see them. And whil them making Majora's mask makes sense I believe it was the protection of the Giants that caused the Garo to define the goddesses, creating a gigantic temple with blasphemous depictions of the Triforce. They also forged the Giants mask to show the goddesses the power of their protectors. So I believe Stone Tower was built around the Giants, not Majora

This theory is really good! Do you think that Majora's Mask has any connections with the Twili race from Twilight Princess though?
@VortexxyGaming10 жыл бұрын
Yes, but not directly. I'm going to make an in depth video of this soon, but the gist of my theory is that I think the Twili ancestors were the parallel version of the ancient tribe from mm. This would explain why the interlopers and ancient tribe share so many things, like the design of their mask , the dark property of their source of power, greed and desire to obtain more power even if it's against the gods and their mask tradition in general. Midna tries to wear the shield like a mask when you get it and the distorted Twili minions under Zant all wear masks... can't be coincidence.
