The legendary looks between Mulder and Scully

A testament to the on-screen chemistry between Mulder/Scully and Gillian/David, which developed over 17 years. I was inspired by one of my favourite scenes: the looks they give each other after the "Millennium kiss". The clips are (mostly) in chronological order. The way that they speak to each other, look at each other, and touch each other says more than an "I love you," ever could. Mulder and Scully's relationship isn't something that's ever very clearly defined on the show --- it just is. It's something that transcends friendship or romance, and the kind of relationship that I think most of us could only ever dream of having in our lifetimes. Chris Carter created the show and I'm grateful for that, but it's really David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson who breathed life into these characters and their unbreakable bond. I do love that this show never fell into the trap of creating unnecessary internal drama between Mulder and Scully --- X-Files proved that it's possible to tell a love story without all that nonsense. Sure, they fight every now and then, but at the end of the day, they trust each other wholeheartedly and would do anything to keep each other safe. It's an intense thing, yet it seems to come as easily as breathing for them.

I would love to understand this connection. I could list all the contributors - the scripts, the characters' unique journey, the attractiveness and talent of the actors, the friendship that developed out of necessity, the unresolved sexual tension because of the unusual level of restraint of the characters ... but it's something more. Something otherworldly, which only strengthens the whole point of X-Files. Proves it, even. Everyone said it would end if they got together, but it didn't. If anything, it got stronger. There's still something that captivates us there, and I expect it would be if there were an X-Files revival when these two are elderly. We would still die every time they look into each other's eyes. I doubt this show would have lasted more than a season if anyone else had played these roles. It's pure magic. Deeper than romance, deeper than friendship ... there isn't a word to describe it. As a writer myself, if only I could bottle this and mix it into every story I write.

Uncanny chemistry, even the actors can't explain it. Very early in the show we already could see some love in the air, just because of these legendary looks. Unconditional love, that's it. That's one of the reasons I'll never accept that damn movie and revivals, the Scully we know would never EVER leave her Mulder, no matter what. They're still the best tv couple, unforgettable.

Whenever I'm upset or bored or sad or just need Mulder and Scully in my life, I watch this. Why? Because it makes me cry. It makes me laugh. It makes me smile. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have this amazing gift - their chemistry - and I'm incredibly glad that they shared it with us. I liked how the magazine Hero Complex put it; "Eventually, he (Chris Carter) did bring them together, or stopped keeping them apart. Even then, though, the relationship was more glimpsed than explored - as if to say, yes, viewer, we will give this to you, and no, it is really none of your business." They concentrated on the great writing and let the actors chemistry shine. That's how a true classic T.V. series is supposed to be run. Timeless, still adored and never forgotten.

It's not really a "romance" though. Their connection is deeper than that. The whole show is about the unknown and the unexpected, and that is what their relationship is. The show is in no way about them being together, it's just something that happened. I personally love the way that handle it. It's part of the story (and honestly it has been from the very first episode), but it never overshadows the other stories being told.

I honestly got the chills watching this. I always thought that Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv (Fringe) had incredible chemistry with their eyes, but Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny give them a run for their money. I read several comments and I completely agree with all the descriptions that DAVID and GILLIAN brought to life the most beautiful and perfect couple on TV. And in my humble opinion, what I can see is much more than just chemistry. There is something beyond chemistry, a kind of genuine LOVE. As if DD and GA were forged from the same stuff, their hearts and souls forged from the same essence! As Kim Manners himself said: I've directed many shows, but I've never seen anything like it. God, Scully is so beautiful in season 1 and 2. She looks so pure and naive. I truly love this early Scully, when she was so young. Mulder hasn't changed a lot throughout seasons 1-9, but Scully did change.
