People tend to default to always believing that the newest camera is the best because it’s more technologically advanced or has more megapixels or whatever, but the latest model is not always better in every way. That is what this video is about. It’s like the specs of a new Porsche are more advanced in every way, but does that make the new Porsche better than a Classic Porsche? I don’t think so.
@stevendente92708 ай бұрын
Depends on your metrics I suppose. If you are basing on style and memories maybe you will prefer the older Porsches. But on a pure performance basis the new models will leave those older ones way behind on either the street or the track. So I guess the question becomes are you a concours Porsche guy or a driver Porsche guy. Me I am heavily biased towards driving having raced them for more that 20 years.

M9 is a wonderful camera. Especially in the summer when the lighting is good.

It's great that you enjoy your camera and respect for that. For me though, I prefer the M11 for More accurate metering, USB-C charging, Larger Battery, Less noise, Higher internal memory, Geotagging images, better buffer memory. iPhones and many devices have USB charging with exposed USB ports. To each their own though.

Dude, half these Leica shooters refuse to take the plastic off the baseplate and you expect them to remove the white sticker?!?!?!? Not gonna happen ;) I removed mine on both my M10 and M10 Monochrom by just peeling it and rolling my thumb over as much as I could until my thumb would hurt. It took more than a day, but the baseplate looks much better now. I dislike the black paint cameras though. Really glad most of the black Leica are black chrome.

I have the M10-R silver that I bought new for near a 33% discount over an M11. So not only is it better for all the reasons you mentioned, but if you shop around you may find a huge deal verses the M11. Huge deal for a Leica that is. :)

Oh! That black paint is beautiful! My M10-D is the ultimate digital M for me, pure classic.
@bernardlesperance7422 ай бұрын
Such a beautiful camera! I do wonder, though, have you found that with the higher 40mp sensor you get less sharp images shooting handheld (compared to, say, 24mp)? Some people have found that they really have to take care when shooting higher pixel count cameras handheld since camera movement will be more noticeable in pictures and cannot be corrected (except by. shooting at higher shutter speeds in the first place - which introduces other issues in terms of exposure options). Personally I have seen the difference when switching from a 24mp to 36mp DSLR. P.S. You may want to rest your camera on a very soft cloth (microfiber) when you put it down as the black paint is known to mark easily. And especially avoid putting it down on its top plate (as you do in the video), unless on a soft cloth. Regret is the worst feeling.

The black paint looks really nice on your camera. I do wish in the future Leica would have two card slots. Plus a vertical battery grip option. It’s such a useful accessory on all my other cameras to have that ability.

Who said so? M10 has color-rendering problem and highlight blown due to wrong ISO setting. Base ISO is not 100 but 160. If you set ISO 100, you will see blown highlight so often. If you want M10 body, please get M10-R.

just a quick question : is there a way to uncouple AE while half pressing the shutter button ( or once you half press the shutter in A mode it's locked to the value it was reading at the instant you pressed the shutter ) ?
@jameshoward97004 ай бұрын
100%. And that M10R in BP is the finest of the fine! The M10 is also a great camera and I think Leica really hit the essence of M with the M10/P/D//R/M models: minimal, pure, reliable and good colour science. Previous digi Ms had great colour, but were normally afflicted with issues or bulk. The M11 lost the plot: needless trivial features and complexity, unstable electronics, heat build-up and bizarre colour science - the M7 of digi Ms... But a better battery than the 10. M10Rs getting very hard to get, while there are loads of 11s - says it all.

I honestly found the baseplate on my M10-P a nice nod to the heritage but also utterly superfluous! The new design just makes more sense, and the battery life (especially if using live view) more than makes up for something that makes the digital camera more akin to the film cameras that came before. The black paint does look very nice though.

Shooting also on a silver M10R… did shoot with a M11… I didn’t like the magenta color cast… And what you mentioned; the M10 has the classic feel. The M11 almost feels like a Hybrid… I keep the M10R and buy a BP MP shorty

I shoot an M10 which I do really enjoy shooting but I’ll be buying an M11-P as soon as I can. The increased battery life, internal memory, USB charging and clickable rear dial I can set to ISO alone are worth the upgrades for me.

The shutter sound on the M10 is loud but I loved it, beside that ever since moving to the M11, I have no worry about the battery life, one battery and one powerbank, I can go for days of casual shooting when on a trip and not have to carry 3-4 spares like I did with the M10, usb-c charging is much needed. Beside that better light metering and electronic shutter for wide open shot in daylight. But I get your point, not everything new is better, M10-R is a dream for many, especially the black paint version that you have. cheers

It is my opinion that all Leica Digitals prior to the M10 were very slow, large and heavy and performance (not image output) was lacking Although I appreciate that some people may feel its nice to have a bottom plate, I don’t like machines that have features just for aesthetics rather than a legitimate purpose so I find the bottom plate idea a bit childish. Having black paint M10R looks great but the additional cost over the black chrome is quite substantial and I always keep in mind that in the long run, digital cameras are not collectables and will all become irrelevant and drop in value a a handful of years as technology moves forward inevitably making them obsolete
@Millicente2 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t put it past leica to make another M with a bottom plate or black paint. That being said, I like the ease of use without a bottom plate and all the tech advancements. I’m part of the few leica lovers that would love a built in evf in a future M body.

Besides the well-known freezing issues that happened too often, the camera was not as responsive as it should have been. It was slow to start and to shoot, and the USBC charging and internal memory did not work as anticipated. The image auto white balance is not accurate (it may not be a big deal if you edit the raws later but it’s annoying that it just doesn’t work). I don’t really need the extra 20 megapixels. The menu was maybe the only thing that was fairly better lol. But I never use the menu. Soooo yeah. all the things I actually wanted to have improve never really worked. And that point does it even matter if there is content author authentication? Just so disappointing.

I absolutely love my M10-P black chrome. However, since I bought my M11 I have only shot with it a couple of times as a second body on a shoot. The M11 provides a superior shooting experience and superior image quality in my experience. The experience part is of course simply preference based. I am very happy to be done with the inconvenience of the retro bottom plate. It provides no useful functionality. The black paint is absolutely stunning, and feels great in the hand I will agree.

Could you share your thoughts on newly announced M11 Glossy Black? I am also a M10-R BP user I think it's a wasted oppertunity since it looks too much like M10-R BP. In the past, black paint digital Leicas like the M8.2, M9-P, M-P, M-D, and M10-R have always had distinct and authentic differences. This one feels like it strays from that tradition.

Leica was made for journalism. And was always a utilitarian tool. Shame that it now sits on the shelves of doctors who fancy that they are photographers. I know that war photographers who used leicas did not like the m-10's because if caught behind lines, the bottom plate made it difficult to remove the card and hide if caught. One of the mane reasons that Leica film cameras were built the way they were, was that you could change rolls even with gloves on. They were meant to be a workhorse... not a collectors item.
@Millicente2 ай бұрын
There are many things that were originally made for one purpose or demographic that have changed or expanded through history. To look down on “doctors” who buy these to keep on shelves is silly and your own form of elitism. Even leica themselves cater to collectors who will own tens of cameras only to put them behind glass cases only to come out once a decade or to be auctioned off. To bring up combat photographers as a reason why one product is worse or better is silly, they’re 1% of the 1%.
