Hi Jack, I always appreciate your stories and your historical accounts. TTArtisan is killing it these days. I shot a set of Sigma lenses with my Fuji X-H2S and to be honest, I didn't care for the contrast or character, not to mention the CA, at least with the ones I shot with. I have one TTArtisan lens. It's a 23mm f/1.4 manual, it's sharp, has great vintage character and I love it on my X-E2. I would definitely consider it for Z mount. Great video as always!

Thanks for the video! The lens looks quite nice. The talk about directors and their preferred focal length is a fascinating one. It is something I never put much thought too, as I have not done much video work. But I really like the idea of how purposeful focal length choice can be to get the desired atmosphere and feeling. Having just rewatched Alien again recently, I realize that the tight focal length and associated compression really did a lot to emphasize the claustrophobia and terror of being on a utilitarian space craft while being hunted by a unknowable xenomorph. The lens choice was just one more element, along with things like set design, script, and actors that created such a classic film.

Thanks Eric! Films are more accessible than old school photographs and shape our visual diet way more than any thing else. I'm growing to really like either extreme, either wider at 28 or tighter at >100mm. Your shots have made me take a really close look at that 105mm f2.8 S... the lens VR would really help with my hand held B-roll

@@BokehTherapy Yeah films have really done a lot to shape culture, and I have recently started to focus more on how film makers achieve the look in different scenes. I will start to think more about the focal length now too, as that play a big part in the final result. It is also always fun to see when directors are using old vintage lens in their films too :D I have really come to love the 105mm f2.8S. It was the first lens I got in the Z system, as I knew it would be good for the macro stuff I like to do. With that said, I have really come to enjoy the focal length for more general photography too. It works well for picking out subjects in street shooting, but is flexible in that it allows for really nice portraits and then the macro work it was designed for. Nikon puts it on sale pretty often too, putting it below $1000, which surprises me due to the quality.

I rent the 85mm S AF lens when i do the occasional portrait work for clients for the higher hit rate that comes with AF but I don't like the look of 85mm as much and have been wishing for an AF 75 with aperture ring. And, I also need the SmallRig grip, too, to make good grip with that setup. I can't imagine that lens paired with any other camera system that has a better focus assist to have the best chance to manually focus at f1. Question is: will the weight inhibit me to want to carry it with me and use it enough? I was thinking about that new Nikkor Z 50mm f1.4 as a potential replacement. Not as fast. But, f1.4 is still pretty good. I may wait and hope they do a SE version of that some day tor a better aesthetic Zf match. As for favorite Tony Scott movie... I see that the price is already close enough that I am really considering getting the 7CR. A bit of context, I do have an a7c but I've been mostly shooting on Fujis, I just like how controls are on Fujis. instinctively it just feels more at home. BUT the autofocus has been getting to me a little recently. Kinda want to try full frame again, of course I'd sell the A7C if i do get the 7CR or the ZF. I've just not been a fan of the colors coming out of the A7C, PS I'm not good at editing. Is there a noticeable difference in color? Is the ibis better on 1 or the other? How close is the autofocus? How much does the 61MP matter in general? Thanks if you give me some input. Sorry that this has nothing to do with the video here and it being so long winded.

IBIS is about the same on the A7CR and Zf. Low light is better on the Zf but it’s lower res? The auto WB is a lot better on the A7Cr than older Sony cameras but the Zf colors are a bit more true to life. The Zf is a lot more fun to shoot with even though it’s quite big and heavy. It’s the one I use 90% of the time. Try both out in person if you can? Ergonomics make or break the Zf for a lot of people

@BokehTherapy Hmmm I've tried the zf at a store but they don't have grip on it so it's hard to tell. There were a few quirks on it that kinda bothered me vs Fuji, like how they don't just have Auto on each of the dials, the C, T, etc. confused me. The 1 thing I know would kinda bother me on the a7cr is the lack of joystick for focus. Every time i go back to the a7c I forget that it's not there.

@@ChaosKamiKaze In case it helps you: I am a long term Fuji user EX-1, X-Pro 1 and 2, GFX 50R, etc. I was between the Nikon ZF and the Sony A7CII while starting from scratch on a new system. I ordered both bodies through Amazon and tested them while still on the the 2 week probation period. I come from boxy cameras and I feel the ZF is not as bad as people report online. Please note that I use their primes or M mount adapted lenses so no experience with long zooms or teles. If you have any affinity towards manual old glass, I believe the ZF is a clear winner. You can adapt a lot of lenses to Z mount, and if you use a 6bit adapter you will end up having all perks for manual focusing. The body is not small but it feels well built. It is more fun for me to shoot and as a Lightroom / PS user I found the experience editing closer to what I was used to with Fuji. Sony files had more detail but there were more difficult for me to grade. I missed the joystick on both but you can set up the ZF to make primary / secondary AF methods as explained in this video. Finally, I have big hands. The A7CII or in the same way the A7CR only felt comfy to me while adding a SmallRig bottom plate. Not the end of the world but it makes the camera have a similar size/weight than a ZF. I ended up keeping the ZF for the proximity to my Fuji experience, the easy while editing (Neutral and BNW profiles are a great start), mechanical shutter up to 1/8000 and its viewfinder (Even while being more confortable with an offset one). If I ever end up using a Sony body, I feel it will be one having full mechanical shutter and up to 1/8000/ Same as suggested by @BokehTherapy, my recommendation would be to try them both in person. Both are clearly amazing cameras, just a metter of taste and usecase.

@@BokehTherapy I use to shoot 35mm since the 80's. 2nd fave focal length is 40mm. For my kind of things, i can shoot ca. 80-90% with just 35mm. It's the most universal focal length - for landscape, architecture, even portraits & street, reportage photography. Therefore, 35mm lenses are being quite popular. For the rest, i choose Zooms.

@@BokehTherapy That's what I'm hoping for too. I especially liked their 25 and 50mm f2 primes back when I still had a Fujifilm X-E4. I think those two had the best body design with their compactness and really nice manual focus feel. It was the veiling flare that killed them for me. If only they could invest more on coatings and also, stick to a design language.

It’s crazy Nikon won’t let Sigma bring their I series to Z mount. Those lenses would really suit the ZF body, more than most of the native lenses. I’m sticking with my A7CR for access to Sigma primes, I’d move to the ZF if I could buy back Sigma lenses.

@ElementaryWatson-1232 ай бұрын
I tried several Sigma I-series lenses, they are nothing special, rather heavier and more expensive than alternatives. I also tried them on adapter on Nikon and they don't focus well, so perhaps Sigma AF protocols don't play well with Nikon.

@@ElementaryWatson-123 if they made them for Z mount I’d assume they would perform better. I really like the line up, they go from super sharp to full of character and I think the all metal build and retro aesthetics would work really well with the ZF, not to mention having access to the retro control layout - auto focus lenses with aperture rings on the ZF,
