TTartisan is doing great. I have the 32mm f2.8 full frame and the 27mm f2.8 APSC for Nikon Z. The quality is excellent for the price I paid ($100usd each). I think TTartisan and Viltrox will grow and thrive, they are offering great quality for less price than other brands. And others are following the path (Sirui, Laowa, etc).

Hi Robin. I watched this and liked it back a month ago and it actually influenced me to get the Sony FE verson for my A7RV to round out my lens kit for that camera, as it does fit in my Messenger Bag along with 11mm, 20mm, 55mm, and 135mm, all f/1.8 lenses... the 75/2 is smaller than the 85/1.8 Sony, and really as good, if not weather sealed.... I couldn't believe the price. I've used it for important sessions since and am quite happy with the results. BTW, I missed your live session yesterday, due to busy Thanksgiving schedule, but watched it in full tonight and really appreciate your great advice. I had the 12-100 since 2017 when Olympus allowed me to try it out... I was skeptical but it performed so well on my OM-D E-M1 Mark II at the time. Eventually, I sold it when I purchased the OM-1 and 12-40/2.8 II. I have a friend who has a copy and who will loan it to me when needed, but honestly, I don't miss it very much... I think all the elements tend to make it seem slower than f4 in low light. It's very good in daylight. But like you experienced, it's not as good as other f/4 glass like the 12-45 in low light, for some odd reason. I'm no engineer... it's just my own experience with that lens. Plus, like you, I've sort of gone retro in my techniques.... everything has gotten so good, that really, I don't mind changing lenses and just keeping it simple with one camera at a time... I have multiple bodies so backup is. no problem. Using the three pro f/2.8 zooms from 7mm to 150mm for nearly a decade, and having the f/1.8 primes really does meet my needs, and this works well in conjunction with the FF A7RV and excellent f/1.8 primes for that system. Keep sharing your expertise and analysis along with the outstanding photographs you make. You keep my imagination alive and always looking forward to the next shoot.

Bought this today for 165€ incl. shipping for my Nikon ZF. It takes 7-21 days to arrive so I guess a lot of people buying this lens atm. Bokeh looks great, really looking forward to have this lens in my bag as another option to the Nikon 26 mm pancake. Has a little bit of retro look too which is great for the ZF.

Excellent review Robin for an excellent lens. I am very excited for a lens this small, this fast and FF capable for less money then what OM asks for the 45mm f 1.8 (I know its not the same focal length). This is a great lens for cameras like Sony a7C and Nikon Zf. Combine it with a small 24/28/35mm f 2 and its the perfect two punch street photography setup. I do with Nikon would make a rangefinder style Z camera to compete with Sony a7C.

Thanks. It is amazing what these third party manufacturers are making these days, and I am excited to see more coming from them. I don't think Nikon will ever do anything rangefinder style, but if retro classic is what you are looking for their ZFc and ZF are good options.

Hello. I just joined this community. I just got my first camera (beyond a smart phone). It's a used E-M5 II. I'm having 2 big problems right now. The screens time out too fast for me to learn how to use the camera. How can I set them to stay on until I'm ready to change them? and the shutter button seems very soft and mushy with no real definitive click feel. it causes me to sort push on the button causing some camera movement while I'm tasking the pic. Is my camera defective? Thank you so much for your help.
@robinwong
@robinwong 3 ай бұрын
I am glad you have "upgraded" to a camera system from your smartphone! Thanks for joining the membership, appreciate the support. The screen time out can be disabled by turning off Quick Sleep setting. I don't have an E-M5 Mark II, but you can navigate it in the Menu / Custom Menus / Menu K / second page and turn off the Quick Sleep mode. About the shutter button I cannot verify it unless I have your camera in my hands. As a standard, all cameras have two step shutter button release, the half-press to lock focus and full press to release the shutter. I don't think I remember having any camera that has a shutter button that gives a "click" response. It is meant to be soft, so you don't exert too much force on the camera, hence minimizing movement. The only way to verify if your shutter button is faulty is to get another camera (preferably same model) and compare.

I like my Samyang 75mm F1.8 for Sony EF - it is a bit smaller and significant lighter (no brainer to bring it with you when or wherever you go) and shows a very nice performance with portraits without being too sharp. In addition, it has a switch that can be freely programmed between autofocus, manual focus and aperture ring function. Everything for approx. 25% more money than the TTArtisan.
@robinwong
@robinwong 3 ай бұрын
The Samyang however has plastic lens barrel and lacks the aperture ring, though both aren't deal-breakers, but considering the lower price, I'd say that's pretty amazing. I'd take the slightly heavier TTArtisan for the metal build.

I'm so excited that this lens can do so much for such an affordable price! It's definitely on my list of lenses to get for my Z5! I know it's not fair to compare it with the Olympus 75mm F1.8 but I'm so curious! Having shot with both lenses how do you find the IQ, AF and handling? Size wise between those two lenses are they about the same?
@robinwong
@robinwong 3 ай бұрын
Can't really compare the TTartisan 75mm to Olympus 75mm, as they are resulting in very different focal lengths. The sharpness is better overall on the Olympus 75mm f1.8, and the bokeh rendering is also smoother and more pleasing. Also, the TTArtisan is a budget lens, the Olympus 75mm is a "premium grade" lens, so not a fair comparison.
@eyeswideopen565

You’re right Robin! Olympus 75mm is more premium. It’s so hard to decide what lens to get for which system when you have multiple cameras in different formats.

I have this lens in e-mount. The lens itself is great but not the lens hood design. First the petal shape is useless on such a focal length. Second I could not fit the hood on top of a filter unless that one is very flush with the lens barrel. No luck with knurled filter rings. Last the filter threads are plastic, not metal like the rest of the lens. They can easily fix those flaws in version 2 !

Dear Robin, at first, I was a bit confused about this video. I thought, this was about micro 4/3, and that they copied the Olympus 75 mm 1.8. Turned out this is about full frame.😊 I totally understand that you pragmatically looked to Nikon. The Z5 and Z6 cameras are probably the best value full frame cameras you can buy; there are lots of cheap lens options; and even Nikon lenses are plenty full on the used market. However, I don’t know about Malaysia, but in my country, the Panasonic S5 has dropped to a third of its original price and therefore is a steal! And it brings along some of the features that you are used to from Olympus, like Hi-Rez shot excellent stabilization, and live composite. And there are cheap adapters available for cheap old Canon EF glass. Wouldn’t that be something for you? Best, Michael ❤

@ghostplanner.digital
@ghostplanner.digital 3 ай бұрын
@@robinwong That’s right. That’s why the price is dropping so much. But then again: you are a photographer. And the S9 is an excellent photo camera. And when you want to upgrade to the S5 ii or even the G9 ii you can keep all the accessories and everything will feel familiar. Just saying 😉 I think that will be my path 🙏 Warm greetings from Germany to Malaysia
@robinwong
@robinwong 3 ай бұрын
Panasonic has almost zero presence in Malaysia. No support, no people to contact and no service center. At least I am connected to Nikon people and they provide professional support for photographers. The fact that they have an actual service center and Panasonic does not... I think you get the idea why none of my friends (I have a lot) use Panasonic here.
