This is my 16th year as a photographer and I keep hearing folks use the wrong description for the Canon 50mm primes; the EF 50mm f/1.8 is known as the "Nifty Fifty," and the RF 50mm f/1.8 is known as the "Thrifty 50." EF 50mm = Nifty Fifty, RF 50mm = Thrifty Fifty. Now you know and I'm sure it'll make you a better photographer! 😂 My first prime when I shot with the Canon T5i was the EF 50mm f/1.8. I upgraded to the 6D MkII and kept the EF Nifty Fifty. I've since upgraded again to mirrorless - EOS R, and traded all my EF lenses in for new RF lenses, included in the trade was the RF Thrifty Fifty, and I can definitely see an improvement in quality and build from the EF to the RF Thrifty Fifty. As long as they don't mind a noisy focusing lens that jumps around from subject to subject.

Are you sure you don't have a faulty lens? My RF Thrifty Fifty is a little noisy but it has never "jumped around from subject to subject," at least not in manual mode for photos.
