In 2013 I interviewed for a massive credit processing facility that handled all kinds of PII and sensitive data. They wanted a programmer to come help them keep up with the volume of the work. Going through the interview process revealed that there were over a dozen people all using VBScript inside glorified Excel spreadsheet to transform and perform control logic on all of this data. I was mortified beyond belief and asked why they chose that tech stack. The answer was because no one "liked to program", and they also said doing it that way gave them mandatory overtime because the processing takes so much longer to manually run through the sheets. It keeps me awake at night still today...

With people finding out their degrees are useless, and having been taught zero other skills, fast food is THE market that's left for jobs. So they DEMAND! that they be paid a full-time wage to support an adult, from an occupation that was largely meant for teenagers to have some cash and learn to work, and for retirees to supplement their piss-poor social security on a part-time basis. The fault is also that they have to keep printing money to keep the sham going, as well as huge corporations buying all housing and the prices multiplying in a few years time.

The thing about Star Citizen is that there's already a game live (playable alpha that's actually playable) and it's the people playing it now and enjoying it who are spending money supporting it. It's not like there's a huge group of people out there twiddling their thumbs just waiting for a release date before they'll get to enjoy what they paid for. The thing is that Cloud Imperium Games hasn't really spent any money on marketing and basically told gaming news sites that they were worthless, refusing to give them any exclusives or additional access, so games media just write constant hit pieces that leave out a lot of context and necessary info or just outright lie. SC has several weeks a year where it goes free to play for in game events where that and word of mouth are their only real marketing to grow the player base. The community is pretty adamant with people that they should only buy the game or otherwise support it if they enjoy what's in the game and like playing it as it is right now. They're still growing the number of players as well as their funding levels hand over fist, which should tell you something. One of the big things game media completely leaves out of context is that Star Citizen isn't one game, it's two. The one people think about is an MMO-ish game that was a stretch goal from the initial kickstarter, the other is Squadron 42 which is a single player narrative-driven game with a shared code base. The multiplayer universe has taken a back seat to getting the single player game out the door since just before the pandemic, and is now feature complete and expected to have a release date announced this October based on some things devs have let slip when doing interviews (e.g. saying they expect a ship to be in game sometime next year when it's being held until SQ42 releases). You guys should just give it a try on stream like you did BG3 during the next free to play week rather than furthering game media's mafia-like protection racket in the industry. "Sure would be a shame if something happened to your reputation with potential customers, might be we could help you out with that if you made it worth our while."

I'm not worried about data center power .. look at their fresh water usage. Than compare that to their power usage, most power plants consume something 7-8 litres of fresh water per kilowatt generated for cooling. Data centers use a large chunk of our available fresh water yearly.
@Bob_Smith194 ай бұрын
They are moving away from water usage in general. The racks will e water cooled but that’s closed loop. There is new tech that is initial roll out that gets rid of water usage for cooling the air. And you should be worried about the power usage. They are capping out entire areas. I work in the industry. There’s a reason they keep moving locations. They cap out an area and move on. Average is 9 megawatts per building and they build multiple buildings per site.

If it's not a completely open product where any customer can make custom software for it without the need to involve the manufacturer of the platform or its components in any way after the initial purchase, I'm out. The platform needs to be essentially usable and repurpose-able for as long as the chips and capacitors last, and not become e-waste, regardless of whether the manufacturer goes out of business or decides to no longer support it.

Twitch Ambassadors are personal leasons to big enough streamers. This actually makes some sense because the ambassadors are responsible for instructing streamers what is acceptable to begin with and understand a streamers content and community better than any council because they spend a lot more time observing a streamers content. Its easy to drop in on many streams and assume they should get banned with no context to whats going on.

And EV sales have been increasing year on year, with a 95% retention for future EV purchase.
