Australian here ~ The Australian digital panic department has gone to war with Musk ~ Ok, I'm not completely enthusiastic about either party here, but the argument / conversation does seem to have been hijacked by people with an agenda. We had a stabbing in a church, by a teenager, which was motivated by Muslim extremism. It was a terrorist attack. We had footage shot on a phone, showing the teen run up during the service, and stab the guy over a dozen times before anybody else got close enough to stop him. Ok. That footage was all over the web. The order was, as I recall, to take it down and edit / chop it so you can see the kid run up, but stop before you see a knife penetrating a body. Ok, I am against censorship, but I can sort-a almost see a point to this. If we can't watch two consenting people have sex, then maybe we shouldn't be able to watch Avengers movies or this either. This is a not unreasonable case for censorship. Problem now, is the whole thing has been hijacked by people who have a binary black / white ~ yes / no view, and they're both wrong, and they're both arguing with an edited version of the facts and the issues. The story should not be suppressed, and it is still being reported. I'm not sure the whole video clip should be deleted, but I can see a perfectly reasonable case for only posting an edited / censored version. My issue, is people who have an agenda, hijacking a difficult and contentious event, and starting a civil war over it. Both sides seem to me, to be arguing a case that's only half true, that includes all the things that seem to support their position and leave out all the things that don't. Commentators in Europe and the US have seized on this and shouted that Australia has become like a police state, where the government is stifling the free press, and that is sort of a massive distortion. That is an issue this raises, but that isn't a fair report of the whole circumstances.

12:54 Common misconception, while it is true that OLED is emsisive, and is technically able to be produced without a backlight with individual red, green, and blue OLED sub pixels, 99% of OLEDs on the market today use a monochrome OLED backlight and some sort of color converter on top of it. This is opposed to a color filter on LCD that blocks unwanted light making(making it a transmissive display), the color converter takes the often blue OLED light and converts it to red or green, with blue pixels not having a color filter and just passing it through, this means it is a 'new light' and thus an emissive display. This is actually a good thing as different colored OLEDs tend to both be used at different rates(leading to uneven burn in) and even if used at the same rate, will burn in at different rates. What QDEL does is take the color converting layer found in OLEDs, QLEDs, and QD-OLEDs and directly energize them with electricity. Think of it like the phosphor layer in a CRT, electons come in and excite the phosphor layer to directly create light rather than filtering it like an LCD, or converting it like an OLED With OLED you can think of it as a similar principle to miniLED, but taken to the extreme, where miniLED might have 2k-30k mini LEDs on a 1080p display(~2m pixels), an OLED will have 3-4 backlights per pixel or between 6 and 8 million on that same 1080p resolution. keep in mind that rather than filtering colors like a mini LED, you get a near pure conversion of colors with OLED with some of the colors like blue and white not being converted at all(assuming there is a white OLED and that blue is the backlight color)
@denvera1g15 ай бұрын
What makes QDEL interesting on the surface(wait for products to make it to market) is that unlike OLED which requires either physical vapor deposition, or chemical vapor deposition(the reason for their price is that this generally requires a vacuum sealed high temperature chamber) QDEL can use traditional LCD manufacturing methods, and in theory, a 65 inch QDEL could offer better color, better efficiency than OLED, while being cheaper than LCD as there are far fewer layers/steps in manufacturing.

The modular car should be a unibody-on-frame with semi-modular chassis. For whoever takes the mantle on this idea, it is going to always be better long-term to develop a unified top which mounts on complete with floor on frame than to make the top half of the car hyper-modular. A dual-frame construction where the top is _also_ a frame for pieces to go on can help lighten weight during install and enable top frame alterations which allow for additional features, but cost more money to develop.

Wendell, do you refer only to the Kitchen Aid before they changed ownership, and switched from metal to nylon/plastic gears, or even to today's less celebrated (by chefs) models? B. Wendell, is the economy really so bad as you assert? Is that the sort of metrics MIT teaches? I look at job numbers, for example. Several months ago google finally managed to piss me off enough that I moved to paying for Kagi for search, and fastmail for gmail. Honestly I've been very happy with the move. Being able to create a masked email address for every service is amazing, and there's so much less seo spam in kagi's results that it's easy to manually downrank/block the bit of trash that manages to get through. Ain't going back. BTW there are other free options for watching youtube than youtube, if you catch my drift. It's nice being able to load my channel list and see a most recent list of videos uploaded from ALL my channels, not whatever the algorithm wants me to see. KZbin's algorithm is toxic to creators. I wish there was a easy and comprehensive way to give a dollar a year to each of the channels I love, that's far more than they'd ever get if I sat down and watched thousands of their videos full of adds. Unfortunately a lot of patreons and such want like $5 a month (lmao), and very few channels are THAT special when there's a hundred others I'd like to support.

I genuinely like the OS, I love the interface, I appreciate their move to modernize Windows, but then they do boneheaded shit like the hard TPM/Secure Boot requirement and adding "recommendations" to the start menu. Like, it could be so much better if the marketing department didn't have such a hard on for ostracizing and antagonizing their userbase. I work in audio production/post production so that essentially removes Linux as a viable option for me, so I genuinely want Windows to be better because I refuse to buy Apple's disposable devices. Saying Ford lost 130k per vehicle is like saying anybody building a new product is losing money their first 3 months of production. A factory and development costs are amortized over the lifetime of the product. Your source article is either written by a moron or propaganda to manipulate the narrative. The fact that Ford could ONLY be down $130k each on 10k cars is actually a sign of how profitable this will be. Their loss is $1.3B on 10k cars another article lists a loss of $34k on just 36k units. As upfront costs spread and sales increase that cost will come down.

7:30 Funny how cultures are different in this regard. Here in Germany your own house is something you'd work your entire life for, so yes, the first house you buy would be your retirement home. Then again housing also is more expensive here, you'll probably struggle to find a decent 220 square meeter (~2370 square feet) house for less than 600,000€. There's just far less space available than in the gigantic US. However I don't see myself ever owning a home, it just isn't worth it to me, the headache about constant repairs and renovations, and even if I got a decent salary increase I'd still have to pay off the bank loan until close to the end of my life, so I wouldn't get much of truly "owning" or saving on rent.
@swankshire69395 ай бұрын
It's not constant repairs and renovations. In the 4 years I've owned my home the only real repair I've had was when my furnace went out on a Saturday at 2 pm. I looked up how a furnace works and started testing the parts of the furnace. Took me an hour to figure out the blower fan capacitor was probably bad. A nearby hardware had the part and it took 5 minutes to replace it. $35 and a few hours over 4 years isn't bad. My house was last renovated in the 90s and it's not getting another one anytime soon. The people talking about repairs and renovations are just making propaganda. It's the same idea as not owning your car or video games. They want to own the product and get paid to let people use it.
