I think browser developers should make it mandatory for a GUI to be running in order to access an encryption key protecting the users data. That way edge can’t steal data without invoking a UI.

I handle "smart" devices that insist on connecting to wifi by connecting them to a "deadnet", a separate wifi network with no route to the internet. This usually satisfies the device and gets it to STFU. Plus, it avoids an issue with some devices where they remain in a provisioning state (acting as a wifi AP, or allow bluetooth pairing), which is dangerous because an attacker may be able to provision them over RF and, for example, burn your house down by activating your air fryer.

I think what's most upsetting is that products like Edge are genuinely great on their own merit without having to be scummy and do underhanded shit, truly, I've been using it as my daily driver since the Chromium version released but Microsoft just can't help but burn goodwill by doing boneheaded shit like this and the win11 TPM requirement when it (23h2, anyway, before the stupid POPCNT shit in 242h2) can run on a damn core 2 duo just fine. It's exhausting af.

They lay off to avoid anyone getting in on the open enrollment, and to tighten budgets at end of year because they over budgeted and just making adjustments, plus if they get it taken care of now, they can start working on next years plan and budget so it is locked in for the individual departments budgets. Budget I think is usually headed by someone in departments usually, in tech it would be like CTO. CFO does a lot, but the CFO usually approves the departments budgets as far as I can infer, so the CTO has that hard job this time of year. (So if CTO get a raise everyone should have problem with it, especially if his job was extra hard this fall!)

The reason why people don't have a license to many of the scientific software is because it is prohibitively expensive. The license for the software we are using at work is 1 grand per user per year. You could see why some smaller institutes might be reluctant to pay these prices...

That Iphone thing is a HUGE attack surface. There has to be a mechanism for iphones to talk to each other without user permission. Root the iphone and modify the firmware to change the data being sent to the other phone to get it to open up a bluetooth/data connection or execute another attack and now you have access. If you can mount the attack phone as a HID device like a keyboard it would give you full control over the target phone.

It's a type of fingerprinting...so always double check unassociated cookie based on your session & session-data and compare with other browsers cause it may not just be cookie theft, it could be unassociated-cookie-fingerprinting.
