People keep freaking out about how well computers can identify and track targets, but they forget that we could do this ten to fifteen years ago with an xBox 360 and the Kinect sensor. I played around with it, and it's amazingly able to identify humans in a busy room. There's a project where people have paired a nerf gun, some off the shelf servos, a laptop and the Kinect sensor and software... and had an amazingly accurate automated turret. The AI stuff is just the icing on the cake.

Those 'come n go' gas stations are the only places around me that have free air. A lot of them are also putting in EV chargers, though 7-11 has them beat there. They're the only 'gas station' I've used in years. Even back when I had a gas car I'd either go there or the grocery store where I traded privacy for cheaper prices. Do not look in to how they 'teach' the elephant to paint. Maybe that one he watches is the one wholesome example, but most are... less so.

There were only two bids. One was more money, but would have resulted in less money to one of the parties. The other was for less money, but resulted in a more equitable division and more money for the Texas plaintiff. The judge could rule that the auction results were invalid, but I suspect he will rule that they were correct and that the result stands. We’ll see in time.

Bugs - a delicacy? It is all based on traditions of eating bugs, which in turn was mandated by prolonged starvation. I know many old people who genuinely believe bread is very good, healthy and important for the same reasons - they've seen periods of prolonged malnutrition, and just having some bread was considered way way better real. Also the fugu fish - once "brave people" ate it at a risk just to ward off starvation, hence the "brave people food" 1000$ for a dish of tasteless lousy fish that's cultivated and didn't even have the poison glands in the first place. See, blindly following "tradition" is not really recipe for success, there's reasons for ALL of our traditions, not necessarily all of them are right or even applicable. Yeah the Judge said the sale to the Onion was against the rules set for the auction and was not acceptable. He seemed rather upset at the process and cancelled it. Especially since it was not the highest bid and the bids were supposed to be open bids but the administrator changed to secret bids violating the rules. And the bid itself violated the rules and requirements with what seemed to be collusion and fraud.
