This phone was pretty good back when I had it. I didn't really have any complaints I can think of besides slow software support and just good enough battery life.

Bought one this year as a DAP/backup phone and its great! Could easily be my daily driver but i wanted a z flip 3 instead. The v40 is still snappy and is great as a digital audio player

I'll be getting on off eBay for about $60 with a cracked display. It still works and everything it just has a cracked display. I've had 2 V40's on Sprint and they worked till I broke 'em. The 2nd one I accidentally erased the IMEI trying to restore it back to stock after modding/putting custom ROMs on it. And the first one I dropped it and the touchscreen went haywire

I'm using a v40 now for about 2 years. These great phones are going away. I purchased a used almost new v50 for when my v40 craps out. I've been with Verizon for about 20 years.

If I'm going to buy a phone today, should I buy a used OnePlus 7 Pro, used OnePlus8 or a new Xiaomi Note 10 Pro. (I will not be buying another phone for around 4,5 years) (Imma copy and paste this comment and annoy you until you reply) Also really appreciate your upload frequency.

OnePlus 8 gets support for the most years, bigger battery than the 7, 5g and a 865. Not sure about Xiaomi but I would recommend the 8 especially because 5g will become more popular within 4 yrs

If you go into the audio EQ and max it out, it makes the external speaker quite a bit louder. DxNOmark missed this too. I understand most wouldn't even think of this, other than Audiophiles. Same with the Cameras... Android is meant to be customized.... at least that's the comment i left when they treated it like an iClone. At least they went back and retested the cameras. The Unlocked LG V40 QA7 didn't get Android 10 either. Usually the factory unlocked phones get updates first. Not this time. Before that, i had the LG V20 from T-Mobile, which is known to be the last to update LG's phones. I doubt T-Mobile will update any of LG's phones after this farewell update. The V20 was the first to have BAND 66/active (with T-Mobile) and Android 7, even before the Pixels. Though, the last to get Android 8...lol. After this anyone would be upset. I took matters into my own hands. You can actually BL unlock and ROOT any of the V40's, but NOT the T-Mobile version. Damn they must have a vendetta against LG... Other than the T-Mobile variant of the V40, you can flash Android 11 to it, soon Android 12. Also, gain control of the ESS SABRE qDAC. www.xda-developers.com/ brings life back into LG's phones. T-Mobile's phones used to be BL (bootloader unlocked) and flash friendly. The Galaxy Note 3 from 2013 (SD800/Adreno 330) and HTC HD2 from 2009 (1GHz Scorpion/Adreno 200) are still running some of Android's latest OS. But back to the V40... Apologies for that Most won't take the time to read a 40 paragraph guide on how to ROOT and flash a Phone. But, its worth it in the end. Gaming on LG's phones are prone to the Famous LG Micro Stutter. This is because LG set the thermal throttle temps way to low on all there phones, ever since the LG G4 bootloop fiasco. It turned out, the solder that was used in that particular factory was of low grade and after so many temperature cycles, just literally cracked. It really wasn't LG's fault. They got sold a bad batch of solder. In LG's defence my LG G4 is still running today, with Android 10. Also, all of Qualcomm's Adreno GPU's are compatible to all the new OpenGL and Vulkan drivers, the same goes for the Adreno 630 in the LG V40. By updating or flashing a new GPU driver or ROM can gain you another 10% of GPU performance. Though, you lose that or more instantly by LG's low temp thermal throttling. They set the (thermal.conf.file) low temp to 53°c on the GPU to be exact. The LG V40 is and was known for this. Just by having ROOT you can change the thermal throttle temp on the GPU to 80°c (which it'll never hit) and the GPU will keep its 710MHz clock frequency therefore eliminating the micro stutter. You can also overclock the Adreno 630 to 1GHz if wanted but i wouldn't recommend that on the V40. Because of its 3300mAh 🔋. With Adroid 9, 10 and 11 the new GPU driver gets the Adreno 630 within 10% of the Adreno 640 in the V50. Qualcomm aimed at CPU improvements for the SD855, and not so much the GPU. With ARM's new Cortex A76 core and Qualcomm's FP32/integer boosts the Kryo cores in the SD855 got a 45% uplift while the Adreno 640 only got a 20% uplift. The usual is more like 30%-35% uplift. But this wasn't a new GPU Generation. Half of 5G implementations and AI boosts were more important because Samsungs Exynos, HiSilicon's Kirin and ARM's of the Shelf SOC's were aiming at better camera capabilities. Qualcomm's Adreno GPU was already ahead of the competition, so they had room to breath with the Adreno 640. Anyways, i could go on but, i have to apologize again for the long comment. I'm a long time LG enthusiast and collector. I even got the V70 collector and the Slide Prototype. I promised not to show any pics or vids for the sake of someones livelihood. I made them an offer they couldn't refuse. I also bought 3 boxes of replacement V40's' V50's and V60's. All the manufactures dates are a year after the phones initial release date, so even the batteries in the V40's are good. I'm testing one right now leaving this comment. If you use a ram manager and keep an eye on things you can easily pull 5to 6hr's on the V40. 7hr's for about a month fresh out the box. Also, if you got the Unlocked (QA7) variant, you might of got played on the Android 10 update but there is XDA plus the Unlocked V40 has 24 BANDs including BAND 66 and 71. I would argue that the V40 is probably the best 4GLTE phone out there. Again, i say this as an enthusiast. With 24 BANDs that you can actual lock onto manually i have to say that. With a manufactures code you can get you can set the BAND to lock. So if your carrier is throttling your bandwidth, you just switch and lock to another BAND. I found this real helpful with T-Mobile constantly doing this when i paid for unlimited data. Also, the best 4GLTE is better than the slowest spotty 5G. Which T-Mobile uses. As bad as T-Mobile is with LG's phones, they do have basically the best coverage, subjectively... Also, the V40 has impeccable GPS signaling, beating out a stand alone GARMIN 500 GPS for a car 🚗. Check out Notebookcheck.com's LG V40 review on it. And take my word for it. The GPS is great. Of course this is another BIG option a lot of reviewers miss. Like the V40's USB-c to HDMI out. That's an option i hear a lot. No mistake or hate. I like any channel that shows LG any kind of love. By the way, i love the channel. I'm considering starting my own here shortly. And i'm going to do it with just LG phones. All, manual settings, shoot, edit and upload, all on an LG phone. I won't announce it until about a month into the channel to see what people have to say about LG mobile.
