Great phone but unfortunately the boot loop did end up getting me and I was still a young buck and was not too keen on backups at that time 😭 G5 ended up being pretty fun though with the modular design. Bad phone to have doing delivery though with the GPS always being terrible 🤣 G6 still the prettiest phone they ever released in my opinion but trying to be before Samsung and taking the slower snapdragon was a huge fail. G7 imo probably being one of the best most competitive phones especially with the deals but the 4gb ram being it's downside. After 4 pretty mid "flagship" releases G3-6 they were too far in the mud. Still love my v60 dual screen and I'll keep that forever as my LG memoir but as usual with LG it was slightly behind when new with only a 60hz display. Man you notice that these days. I was loyal from the G2 to the v60 though, they will be missed!

I miss my G4 dearly. I remember when I got it. I got the grey plastic with the fake aluminum looking back because it was the only option available through AT&T. Within a month of buying the phone, I ordered the gold outer bezel and gold buttons, and the light tan leather back directly from LG, and quickly swapped all of my parts over. I was blown away by how LG encouraged you to modify your G4 to your liking, and they also encouraged you to keep backup batteries with you. I had an LG phone battery storage box specifically for my spare battery. Back in 2015, this was the single coolest phone you could have. I got questions about my boujee leather phone at school all the time and didn't hesitate to show off hotswapping my batteries in class while the iPhone kids had to have portable batteries and charging cables in thier bags. Well. Here we are a decade later. I still have my G4, but it doesn't boot, but it's sentimental to me. From a time when smart phones dared to be different, and it felt like every few months, another cool Android phone was coming out. I wish I could go back in time and relive those days.

I still have PTSD from the waves and waves of walk-ins with boot looping G4's. I have no clue how many DHRPs I ordered for dead G4's. Luckily we could usually get the data back by heating the board really hot with the heat gun or freezing them for a while. It was hilarious when Asurion tried to pawn them off on the stores to use as loaner phones, I don't think any of them lasted more than a couple of customers before they too boot looped.

I was a tech around then! It was almost daily that all customers in our queue had boot looping G4's and all we could really do was order them another G4 or do an in-store exchange for a G5 if we happened to have one and got the approval to take one from store stock for the exchange. It was miserable and I can't even begin to count how many we either froze in the back or melted with the heat gun to get them booted up long enough for a data transfer, luckily we were mostly successful! Later on after they sold us to Asurion they had the nerve to send G4's out to stores to use as loaner phones, suffice to say we almost never issued those and when we did they'd usually come back boot looping. Glad those days are over!

I used LG G4 for 5 straight years. I had a bootlopp issue, but LG fixed it, as it was under warranty. I loved the design that was really standing out at the time (and in today's context it would be even more bonkers). What was cool that in the box we not only got the leather back, but also a plastic one, as a replacement for more rugged-use days. It's first party window case was mad. But the thing I loved the most was the camera. It's picture quality largely came from optics, not the computational stuff (yeah, HDR was really bad on it). I looked at the old photos that I took on a trip to Australia, and honestly it's a breath of a fresh air in comparison with my current device. I'm not saying it's sharper, or has better resolution, but it has a unique look of a camera that does not try to create a fake reality but has it's one signature. It's just as looking at an analogue photo, even though it's not :)

I used to have one in high school and loved it. I previously had a G2 mini as my first smartphone so the G4 was my first flagship smartphone and boy, was it something. The camera was better than the iPhone 6 (which most my friends had) and on pair with the Galaxy S6. It felt huge but the curvature made it confortable. I remember the G4 variations were not flagships and were very laggy after a while, none of the people I know that had them liked them. I used it for 2.5 years, never had the boot looping issue but sometimes it just didn’t want to charge and became a little bit laggy although it was bearable. The reason I stopped using it was because one day I accidentally dropped it, the screen was fine but it started restarting itself in my pocket and overheating. It was my first year of university and once I recall not knowing where my class was and had to find a place to wait until the damn thing turned on again so I could see my schedule. My mom was about to change her 3 year old iPhone 6, so she gave it to me and even though it was a bit of a downgrade in camera and storage, it never failed me until I replaced it 4 years later . Moral of the story, LG products lasted me less that 3 years and Apple ones 7+… I’m not going back to androids even though when new, they are indeed way nicer.

Photos I cherish to this day. My G4 ultimately did succumb to the bootloop issue and my carrier at the time was woefully incompetent at repairing it, leading me to the Galaxy S6. LG has always been my favorite brand when it comes to smartphones. I've owned a series of LG phones from the G3, G5, G6, to the V20, and fortunately, I never encountered any issues with boot looping. Even though these devices are a bit dated now, I checked on them last year and found that they were all still functional, albeit with reduced battery health due to their age. One standout feature that drew me to LG was its impressive screen ratio in comparison to the body of the phone, unlike Samsung's larger bezels reminiscent of older iPhones. The user interface, especially features like Qmemo and Qslide, added to the overall experience, but what truly set LG apart for me was the unique knock-lock feature. In 2019, I made the decision to stop upgrading to LG phones as I noticed they tended to slow down significantly after about a year, even with a factory reset. It became apparent that other phone manufacturers were embracing the trend of maximizing screen real estate on their devices. Additionally, some of my favorite LG UI apps, such as Qmemo, found counterparts in apps like Google Keep, and the split-screen functionality reminiscent of Qslide was becoming more prevalent in Android OS. The discontinuation of LG phones left me feeling nostalgic and saddened since they were such an integral part of my journey as a tech enthusiast.

The LG G4 was supposed to be my first proper LG smartphone back in the day but the T-Mobile near me at the time didn’t have it in stock so I got the V10 instead, which was basically an overall improvement over the G4 in terms of features since the power button integrated a fingerprint scanner, a slightly more rubberized yet still sleek build that also used stainless steel, and had an extra ultra wide front facing camera. I think it also had an extra screen bit along the top. Unfortunately since it’s basically an LG G4, it suffered from the boot looping issues too and mine had some BAD image retention issues where I’d have screen elements look literally burned in after a mere minute where the only way to minimize it was via a blue light filter app with a 1-5% yellow filter on top and that would only last for about 4 hours tops. Despite that, I still keep it around as a spare phone to mess with custom ROMs as my trusty HTC One M8 finally kicked the bucket.

I was able to get a backup of all my data by placing the phone in the freezer while being connected to the PC and transferring the data. I then went with the phone to my carrier, who has sent the phone for repairs to LG. At first they denied the repair, but after some e-mailing and calling they accepted my warranty claim. I was so excited to get it back when I got a call that I am able to pick it up, but when I arrived at the store I was shocked to discover that they didn't send back my old phone, but some other - hard beaten and cracked phone (must have been mistakenly swapped while being repaired). After some time of arguing with LG departament in my country, I was sent a brand new G4. I then promised myself that I won't support the company anymore. I took the unopened phone and traded it the same day for a brand new Samsung S7 edge. Also, it is funny to see that one of their better OLED TV's serie is now also called G4. What a stupid idea.

LG did not use thermal pads on their G series phones until to G6. Wifi problems and automatic shutdown in LG G2, screen darkening, blue screen problem and automatic shutdown in G3, bootloop and wifi problem in G4 are all just because there is no thermal pad. It can easily exceed 80 degrees when using the LG G3. Since the processor cannot transfer heat towards the screen, it remains on the motherboard and spreads to other parts. And it causes other parts to overheat.

The leather back was extremely nice to the touch and it held up pretty well. Unfortunately software support was not that good, back then you'd be pleased with one major Android update. My G4 started having issues, it started to heat up and I sold it. Funny thing is that I still have my Nexus 5 from back then in a functional state. I think I moved to a Note 8 from it. I discovered I still have the battery pack accessory that comes with an extra battery and a charger for it. I must have forgotten to sell it with the phone.

Ahhh the LG G4... One of my most fav phones back then if NOT for the fucking boot looping issue. Really loved the gorgeous and unique design and the camera was really good during its time, I was so happy with the results most of the time. Then, that boot loop happened... Even after my phone was "repaired" under warranty, I still experienced that damn boot loop the second time. Blacklisted LG phones till the end of their days. Such a shame and I lost some unrecoverable data from this bitter experience as well 😕

One of my favorite phones, the LG G4! I really loved the photography aspect and using this in manual mode. Eventually, it bootlooped and I had to replace it with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (which is one of the best smartphones ever!).

I'm currently using a phone from around the same time, the HTC 10 as an MP3 player and using the original HI-RES headphones (I own 5 pairs, they're that good). Paired together, they sound better than my £300 DAC and Sennheiser HD6xx headphones(Subjective, I know). The phone is really slow for anything else really, but the sound, oh the sound❤ Great video👍🏼

I loved that phone. My first LG Android phone which made me fall in love with the brand. I had the g6, g7 and g8s later. Only skipped the weird G5

I adored my LG G4! The bootloop issue was annoying, but I got it repaired under warranty and didn't experience it since. The worst issue was that after just over a year and a half of usage the already pretty middling battery life had gone down to plain terrible; I'd be lucky to get 2h of SOT, usually it'd die after 1.5h. I know I could've replaced the battery but it was difficult to find any official ones where I lived so I ended up upgrading before my full 2 years were up.

I loved my LG G4, I had the post bootloop phone in leather black. You could tell them apart by rear buttons color. Ones that had bootloop issues had black/grey and fixed ones had gold buttons (at least for leather black edition). It had a superb camera for it's time, it was miles ahead of what my Galaxy Note8 would do or my Flip3, it's only the S23 Ultra I own now that takes better pics

never had the boot loop issue, but have been locked out of apps on LG phones and their only recourse was to replace the phone. Had that happen twice while working 3 jobs and when the third one came up they didnt want to replace it, so moved back to iphone. literally just needed something that would open an app reliably.

I really liked the G4, it was the most comfortable ergonomic shape of every phone ever, but mine died as you mentioned. It was not considered a true "flagship" device because of a bit slower processor, but it was good. I did not like the green tint when the flash was used, and shifted reds to magenta on the display, but the rest was ok.

The LG G2/G3/G4 era was the best in smartphones, they could be repaired, had a thriving community of modders, those phones were built to last. My G2 served for more than 5 years, as a daily driver. No other phone I've had has been that durable and usable for such a long time.

I use it as a DAP paired with TakstarPro 80s. Pletora of custom fw around to play if you need to update it. Currently very cheap. Really easy to disassemble/replace parts. Beautiful screen colors and nice camera. Never had a boot loop issue with mine. Great phone.

LG G3 was the first phone with the tiniest side bezels. It is also the first to use time of flight sensor for detecting distance for the main camera.

I had the LG G-flex 2, they sold them very cheap, and besides the similar bad update politics, this was an awesome phone, with a flexible oled-display and a quite good camera. I liked it very much.

I remember LG was the first Brand I fell in love with simply because I loved their logo. Also really loved the G3 because of laser autofocus 1:01

I owned almost every LG flagship device from the G2 thru to the V60. The G2-G5, and V10-V30, skipped the V40 and V50 and got the V60. I felt like LG was actually doing meaningful innovation, especially on the camera side, with the V series. I personally never experienced any of the boot loop issues with any of my phones. The G4 itself holds a special spot in my memory because I remember working for Best Buy Mobile during the time it came out. Us employees could get a special "work" line, a "concession line" and the G4 was one of the phones we could get for free on a 2yr contract, but we got 1yr contracts 😁😁😁. We could also choose between multiple different leather colors on the back. Mine was the orange variant, and it got quite a bit of attention lol. Also, the camera at the time was one of the best cameras you could buy on a phone at the time. The laser autofocus was very reliable for me. Especially when you realized other phone companies started copying the trend (Samsung, HTC, etc...) Top 5 of my fav phones ever.

The update was because they had to go through cell carriers on 90% of Android phones. I had a Sprint G4 back in the day and it never got Android 7 because Sprint never decided to update it. That didn't really change until Google broke that precedent with the Pixel for carrier models.

I had this device back in 2015!!! I loved it to death... Literally, as I was victim to the bootloop issue... Twice. You (and your aunt) are so lucky that it made it so far! But it was an awesome, beautiful, piece of hardware. So much so that after it died on me twice, I got the G6 (which lasted me until a few months ago) and was very happy with it. Funny that you criticized its photography quality. Back in the day, the G4 was THE phone. In 2015, its camera capabilities were simply unmatched. Of course, in order to take full advantage of its photographic goodness you had to use the manual mode, but my god! The pictures it was able to get you! It was unbeateble when it came to low light conditions (indeed, one of its selling points was the f/1.8 aperture), and it was among the first smartphones to support RAW images. Another goodie it featured was that instead of including a cheap hands-free earbuds, it came with audiophile iems tuned by beloved hi-fi company AKG (now a Samsung subsidiary, ironically), so there you have it. The buttons on the back, may be a love it or hate it situation, but it seems your disliking of it comes from pure prejudice fo going against the norm. If you think about it, it's both practical and aesthetic. On the one hand, the buttons are located on the exact center of the back panel, so matter if you're left or right -handed, you'll always be equally able to reach them. On the other hand, thanks to this, the sides of the device remain completely clean, plus it give the device some symmetry. What's wrong with that? Today it may look like a "mediocre" phone to you, but back in 2015 when it first came out, everybody was talking about it. It was either praised for its photography and screen resolution, or critiziced for the bootloop issue, but it never went unnoticed. It was, among with the usual iPhone and Galaxy, one of the most talked-about smartphones in 2015.

I LOVED my G4. It's was the one and only phone to successfully pull me away from the iPhone. Always had iPhones before and have always had them since. It was very disappointing the day it boot looped and never came back. Watching TV shows and movies on that screen was awesome and it just felt excellent in the hand with the curve. As far as I'm concerned it was the best phone ever made. Technology felt like art at the time and you really don't see that anymore.

The "bug" with the home button and multitasking is when the Setup Wizard prop values aren't set correctly, so it still thinks it should be in setup mode where you can't use the home and recents button. Common issue with custom roms though! Seems your software opinion is well justified :D

I have a LG G3 and it works perfectly. I also own a LG V20 too and it didn't bootlooped. Yes i was right the LG V20 fixed the bootloop issues. The LG G3 isn't affected by the bootloop because it didn't bootloop either but it will bootloop if you installed a faulty OS on it. I used to own a LG G4 back in 2019 until 2021. It hopefully didn't bootlooped on me but i smashed the screen after i dropped it. It was a masterpiece after all but sadly i am not getting another LG G4. I'll straight up get a G3 instead and i already had a LG G3. LG makes good phones but i hate to say that the G4 has this self destructive flaw but that affects the LG V10 as well. The LG G5 fixed it but very few models still had it (Assuming it's a OEM defect) but on the LG V20 and onwards this issue should be gone and yes it was gone since the V20 and i confirmed this since that's my main phone. I don't see the LG G6 and LG V30 bootloops in either way. I don't recommend using the LG G4 as a main phone still. But i would recommend you go for the LG G3 or LG G5 or The LG V20 if your a audiophile instead. The LG V20 and G3 still rocks today despite being from 2016 and 2014 respectively. They are the better option compared to the low end chinese phones that had a very poor quality screen that only provide 720p which is really outdated. But these LG phones hella they are powerful and perfectly usable especially if you put a custom rom on it.

At least on the LG G3 you can flash a proper KDZ file to fix the bootloop because it's rather a software issue. But the G4 is a hardware issue now.

My buddy had one of these, I thought it was the perfect smartphone. Repairable, high performance, and stylish, with multiple swappable backs. The problem is you couldn't really use it with a case or it would overheat, and the leather back didn't fit in a case either.

Loved this phone. The SOC basically melted because the phone got so hot. Thermal management wasn't that great. Went out and bought an S7 because I needed the phone for work, while LG replaced the G4 for me -- no questions asked. I eventually gave the new G4 to my father-in-law, who loved it
