I don't think Trump will be shoo-in because Democrats are very aggressive in their attacks. Michelle Obama is a liar when she said "when they go low we go high". They don't have a standard of gong low. They can go low and lower. The thing about Trump is i just have this weird feeling, he will NOT going run in 2020. He will be in his mid 70s.

There were some fishy games going on in the LNC during the nomination process. It was widely agreed Sharpe was the best on the LP debate stage, and I believe Coley should have been runner up, though I do have issues with him. I like Dearn, but she didn't seem like a great debater, oddly enough being an attorney. The OFFICIAL reason for nominating Weld, I think, had something to do with him being a great fundraiser, and having connections that were needed for donations (particularly big Republican donors).

Larry Sharpe sounds very good and I wish him luck in his gubernatorial bid. Say what you want about Gary Johnson, but having served as a two term New Mexico Governor, fighting for honesty in limited government and leaving a surplus in the government coffers when he left, he has done more for the Libertarian Party than anyone since Harry Browne. Larry Sharpe even mentioned Harry, and if you've been around long enough to have voted for Harry, you probably voted for Gary Johnson. The party is up! There is more opportunity for sharing the libertarian philosophy than ever before. Don't be depressed- the scores of the politically lost are everywhere, looking for the answers we offer. Go convince them to vote.

Blitzerchen Then slap that coffee out of your hand, close all hospitals, doctors offices and pharmacies (don't want those "evil drug dealers" dealing drugs, do you?) Ban alcohol, tea, antibiotics and since obesity is a big killer of Americans, lets outlaw everything but tofu and water. Get caught with the smell of a french frie, steak, anything but tofu and water, automatic prison term. Sound good to you? After all, if you either figure yourself so superior to other human beings that you can and should decide for them what they do with their own bodies or you're too stupid and too much like a child, you need a mommy and daddy in government to "take care of you," you shouldn't mind I'd I decide for you what you can and can't do, eat, drink, possess, wear, think, etc., right?
@bearcubdaycare6 жыл бұрын
Blitzerchen I was living in Britain when the head government scientist published a list of drugs ranked by relative harm. He was immediately forced to resign, because the ranking based on science didn't match the political ranking. The government position on which drugs are worst has little to do with which drugs are most harmful based on evidence. Very little. An open, and frankly disgustingly racist, truth (because essentially identical drugs, like powdered cocaine and crack, carry vastly different sentences, because whites use one and blacks the other). I'm not interested in any of the stuff. But government has not worked in my lifetime to reduce harm, nor to base its actions on evidence.

I dont think people should use meth, heroin, or crack cause all that shit does is kill you. Police have the authority to stop someone from killing themselves, and seat belt laws only affect people themselves too. I think we need to protect people from each other and themselves. Sometimes peopel arent in the right state of mind when they make high risk decisions. I get what your saying its peoples bodies they can put what they want in it. I agree to a point. Id rather have people be a productive member of society than drown their sorrows in drugs more than they already do. I think legalizing all drugs will kill low income communities. Im no expert, but its what my gut feeling is.

Johnson is far more independent with libertarian leanings, if at all barely libertarian - on a good day. Weld and Johnson should have been an Independent Party presidential ticket because that’s how they ran their campaign respectively apart from the rest of the LP organizations and volunteers. Yet, Johnson himself still would have been the better fit in presidential office. Sharpe and a handful of others likeminded in the LP are setting a good future precedent for libertarians politically. It looks good.

@Boristien4056 жыл бұрын
Blaine Nay - Libertarians have different views. Get it through your head. Gary is no ancap, but he still believes in limited government and maximum individual liberty + prosperity. Statistically, he aligns with a vast majority of the LP’s platform (over 85%, according to isidewith.com). Gary was the most qualified candidate in 2016, but the sheeple can’t bring themselves to vote for someone who isn’t a smooth speaker. This is why people like Bernie and Ben Shapiro get popular; their words make people feel good. Overall, there’s almost nothing wrong with Gary Johnson, and Bill Weld had some conflicting policies in the past but he has committed to change.

Honestly, the answer is technology. I am very pessimistic about humanity in that I think only about 10% of people actually respect individual rights. I refuse to believe that it was just a coincidence that chattel slavery existed all over the world for thousands of years, only to be abolished as soon as industrialization occurred. Once you realize that most people are evil, then you realize that the only effective libertarian strategy is to make disrespecting individual rights either unnecessary or impractical. It's not a coincidence that the "enlightenment" and talks of free speech only occurred when the printing press was invented and made commercially viable. You have to beat the state by refusing to play its game.

A libertarian argument in summation tends to show split skepticism toward closed as much as open borders. That is because of the centralized state we will have regardless of choosing one over the other. A libertarian approach within the realm of politics would essentially be a decentralized minarchist approach. Communities within their municipalities would decide on how strict or how lax their immigration and vetting policies would be. If one wants to have strict immigration policies in their locality then they can weigh in their concerns with others in a town vote. Other communities that may want to be more lax in order to better streamline immigrants into naturalization can take the risk or embrace the freedom to do so.

Uh-huh. I'm still convinced voting for one of the other, viable parties would be preferable, as it's clearly more consistently libertarian than the other. I won't say which party that is, but suffice to say that if every person who voted for the opposing parties voted for the Libertarian party, it would please me, because either the Libertarian Party would actually become viable, or, more likely, their votes would be wasted. Unfortunately, those for the party I do not favor are so consistently unprincipled, seeing that party more of a fashion statement than something more consistent with their principles, that if anything, more people from the party I favor are far more likely to throw their votes away, a consequence of actually having principles.
