It’s a shame they imploded at such a time when they had created that electric energy and momentum which they certainly had there is no doubt. Ultimately though maybe the libertines weren’t designed to last I suppose it could be considered part of their art? Punk in nature although not punk just a whirlwind designed to smash you in the face collapsing in chaos then morphing into something else briefly never as interesting but then to return to try and pick the pieces up. I think these 2 are undeniably among some of the finest song writers of my generation anyway and I am 41 years old. I like the new songs that I’ve heard and plan to go and see them some time soon I know Pete in particular had his issues and they’ve been through a lot I’m just glad they seem well and are playing again that’s the main thing here. Selfishly though I really needed a 3rd album out of them at that or at least to substantially tour the 2nd I fear I’ve kind of moved on I was annoyed at the time they split up and still get annoyed with the bands that break up. But hey who am I ?

I’ve been struggling to connect with AQOTEE and up until hearing this, I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. It certainly doesn’t sound like a “bad album” per se, but there just something about it that’s not been captivating me the way the libs normally do. Listening to this, I suddenly now realise it’s the albums production. It’s way over-produced and there is too much sanitisation of the sound and un-libs sounding frills like piano backing and excessive reverb. It’s made the songs sound safe and boring, like generic indie. Stripped down to their raw form here, these songs suddenly sound like the libertines again and they are actually brilliant. It’s a shame how the album is produced.

Thought exactly the same thing. The acoustic version of Shiver is far superior. They really missed that Mick Jones simplistic producing they had on the first two albums.

Exactly how I feel as well. Thought originally it was just because it's new, but the dust's settled now and having heard them perform the songs live, the production is definitely the 'problem' with the album. I've seen people say it feels like a very Carl record, but again I think that's in the production too. I don't get the same impression when they do the songs live. This performance feels very THEM if you know what I mean
