Can’t be many bands we thought less likely to be around 20 years later. Or even all alive. Great to see them all getting on and doing well ❤️

I was 12 years old in 2002. I had just arrived at a boarding school in England, 2000km from home in Francr, the result of being brought up by a mother as strict but with her head constantly in the clouds. Therefore since the very beginning, she got confused with the weekends exit authorisations. While she was think she was restricting myself as much as possible, I was actually free to leave the boarding house every weekend without her being notified. Well, I took the train to London every weekend where cousins of mine aged 16-17 hid me to sleep at their house so my uncle couldn’t snitch to my mother and they showed me this city. The real London. They said to me: have you ever heard of The Libertines, they just released a single or an EP, it’s great. They put the CD on. I was stunned. What was that. Poetry + guitars + elegance and decadence. “They’re playing live tonight at the 100 Club, we have tickets and we made you a fake ID.” This concert changed my life. And even better, it was recorded and released as a live album 2 years ago. I saw them again two months later at the Marquee, at the Astoria, in rotten apartments, seedy pubs. My cousins followed them like groupies and I just had to follow my cousins. Mummy. I'm almost 35 years old, you still don't know the "mistake" you made and you still think that my weekends were studious, sporty and filled with pension activities. These weekends were worthy of the rock and roll of the Libertines from 12 to 17 years old. Thanks Mom. Thank you Laura and Filippa, bless your fantastic taste in music, your blind as fuck parents and your hormones on fire.

Man, was it only the smiths who knew when to stop. To not create a slightly shitter parody of what once was. Love the libs but so many bands break at greatness, get fat and then cash in 10 years later with worse songs. 'we were running for the money and the flesh, and that was called love to the workers in song, probably still is for those of them left.'
@ExpectoPatronum19972 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, but I think you have the wrong idea. They seem to still enjoy making music together and still want to keep the band together on their own accord, rather than doing it for fans or money. I think the only ones who can decide when it's a good time to stop are themselves, seeing that they created the band. Personally, while their newer work isn't my absolute favorite, I'm happy that they all seem to have matured a lot more and can finally create the music that they want to make as a solid unit free from outside influences.

@@hom0s4cer So they practiced for years to get good enough to get paid the big bucks. They "paid their dues"... Like an apprenticeship..
