Eight years after the murder of Real IRA man Vinny Ryan on a Dublin street his comrades have taken to social media to honour him as a ‘republican hero.’
But who was Vinny Ryan and why did he follow his brother Alan’s footsteps to a life in a terror outfit and ultimately to an early grave?

As a Scot, I was a patient in a addiction rehab just outside Dublin when Alan Ryan was killed. I remember 4-5 other patients hearing about what had happened to him and their reaction did not suggest he was a popular guy in the Dublin underworld.

@gm405 actually Alan had a massive amount of time compassion and a burning desire to help his people , after his funeral one of the many stories I heard that still sticks is of a wee woman who's son was going of the rails asked Alan to have a word and he did , a few weeks later the woman stopped him an asked him what he had done not only was the lad back on track she couldn't pass a paperman in the street without her lad saying stop the car and running over Alan reply was amazing, he said aw nothing much just that the ones he was running with were no hard men I said see those fellas selling those papers they are the hard men out in all weather, trying too scratch a living out to feed there families, She was so thankful for that , Plus the amount of people who turned up from Scotland and afar it was a final farewell to a brave man who seen first hand why drugs were being peddled in his city and it wasn't just money ,power thru having a youth addiction to yer product he had these scum on the run

Alan was going to give a journalist an interview in the players lounge and as soon as she asked him any questions about our history he freaked out and threw her out 😂😂 Him and his cronies claimed to help addicts but he still happily extorted money from drug dealers were did he think that money came from?? Obviously came from the average addict off the street.. I'll always remember the tension in the area and surrounding areas when it happened Garda coming from everywhere... There faces were covered well the ones walking beside the coffin it was the first proper colour party funeral with the full honors either side of the border in yrs the Garda had a massive presence but let all the paramilitary stuff slide so nothing would kick off...
